Cody Rhodes opens up about WrestleMania 42.
The Undisputed WWE Champion recently had an interview with Ariel Helwani to promote the Night of Champions PPV. He talked about things such as why he doesn’t want to take a break from wrestling, how long he plans to continue his in-ring career, and more.
During the talk, the American Nightmare also opened up about the twists and turns that were added to his WrestleMania 42 story with Randy Orton. Cody Rhodes explained that he feels very proud of being able to keep his composure through the whole thing despite all the changes to the story that were being made in real time:
I hope that wrestling fans can understand that behind the scenes, for me, it was probably the most proud I’d ever been of how I dealt with anything. It was probably the most calm I’d ever been on the day, and probably even though my eye was shot, afterwards, it was probably the most calm I’d ever been leaving the ring.
Because there were a lot of new factors. Companies change; directives change. That’s part of every walk of life, every type of entertainment and I really just wanted to take a page out of the guys who had been mentors for me.
A Lot of Big Egos: Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes mentioned how the involvement of Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll brought new dimensions and crossover appeal to the story because of what they have achieved outside of wrestling. He thought a lot about how his dad, Dusty Rhodes, would have handled the situation, and he is proud of how he dealt with all the egos involved in the feud:
I just wanted to make it work for the night, and for everyone to feel that we had given them our best efforts. Looking back at it, I may be thinking too internally about it, but internally, I was so proud, because, you know, you’re dealing with a lot of big names and potentially a lot of big egos and I wanted to do right, again, by the people who raised me in the business and hey, I’m gonna make this work, and not just make it work. I’m gonna make it sing if I can.
Apart from this, Cody Rhodes also opened up about his feud with The Rock and said that there is not one but two unfinished stories he has with the Great One. You can check out his comments here.
