Dexter Lumis has reflected on his most famous WWE segment.
The former WWE star got married to Indi Hartwell in an NXT segment during the September 14, 2021 episode of the show. It was a memorable segment for multiple reasons. For one, it was a rare wrestling wedding that actually culminated in the couple’s marriage with Beth Phoenix officiating. It was also the segment where Lumis spoke his first words on WWE TV after being with the company for two years.
The wrestling star now going by the name of Samuel Shaw reflected on this highlight of his WWE career during his most recent interview with Chris Van Vliet. Dexter Lumis revealed that ideas had been thrown around which could have resulted in the whole segment going very differently:
That’s it. ‘I do.’ That never happens. It could have gone differently. There were ideas that were thrown around that was going to go off way different, but I’m really happy with that 10-minute wedding segment. I still have a little script saved, so does Indi, because it was a very special thing for us.

We Had A Connection: Dexter Lumis
Dexter Lumis mentioned that he had real connection with Indi Hartwell as the two were good friends. The 42-year-old revealed that Indi would always try to break him during their segments. While he allowed himself to smile during rehearsals, he kept the character intact when the show was live:
How many people can say they were in WWE and they had a wedding on TV that went off without a hitch, or just had a wedding in general? You got to be, I think, perceived a certain way to get that for yourself on a TV that they’re giving you that time on TV because it’s entertaining. We were entertaining enough to pull that off, and we had a connection with the fans, and we had a connection with each other.
