Eric Bischoff says he had no power in TNA.
The former WCW President was brought into the company as an Executive Producer in 2010. The wrestling veteran has claimed that Hulk Hogan did not want to sign with the promotion without him, and that his job was to oversee the creative for the Hulkster during his run with the organization.
With the latest Dark Side of the Ring episodes bringing the downfall of TNA back into focus, Eric Bischoff addressed his own role in it on his 83 Weeks podcast. The former wrestling executive claimed neither Dixie Carter nor anyone else wanted him involved in the decision-making process, and he had no real power in TNA:
Let me make one thing really clear. I had zero, zero operational control of TNA. I couldn’t hire anybody. I couldn’t fire anybody. I couldn’t give anybody a raise. I couldn’t fine anybody. Nor did I freaking want to. I wanted nothing to do with the operation of TNA. So much so that I made it clear in my agreement that I’m not going to be involved in anything other than the creative I had agreed to do and oversee.
I’d Like To Know The Basis For That: Eric Bischoff
Eric Bischoff also defended Hulk Hogan over the belief that he played a part in the downfall of TNA. The 71-year-old suggested that it’s stupid to think that either of them had the power to kill the company:
So when we talk about the decisions Eric made—or, in this case, which is really chicken sh*t, by the way—to all of a sudden be putting heat on Hulk Hogan when he’s not here to defend himself… come on, guys. But to suggest that either Hulk or I had the ability to kill that company is hilarious. I’d like to know the basis for that.
The former TNA Executive later said that he has not read any recent comments from Vince Russo on the topic, as he has heard it all before. Bischoff said that he is not ‘going to roll around in the mud with this shit’ because it’s not important enough for him.
