Gunther has made it clear he has no intention of letting John Cena enjoy a heartfelt farewell at Saturday Night's Main Event - he plans to destroy it.
The Ring General appeared on ESPN's First Take ahead of his match against Cena on December 13 in Washington, D.C. While the wrestling world prepares to celebrate Cena's final match, Gunther delivered a chilling message about his intentions.
I'm going to do something that nobody ever managed before. I'm going to break your spirit. I'm going to wrap my arms around your neck. And I'm going to squeeze until the last bit of hustle, loyalty, and respect has left your body," Gunther declared.
"I'm going to force you to do the one thing that you said you would never do. I'm going to force you to give up.
The Austrian-born superstar embraced his role as the villain in what should be a celebration of Cena's legendary career. He knows millions of fans will tune in hoping to see their hero ride off into the sunset—and he relishes the opportunity to spoil it.
There's going to be a lot of eyes on it. The whole wrestling world for sure," Gunther acknowledged. "Everybody is coming bringing all his love and support for John Cena that night and I'm in the incredible special situation that I can ruin it all. I can ruin that party and break a few hearts and I think that's what I'm going to do.
When asked if he enjoys playing the villain, Gunther didn't hesitate to confirm his antagonistic nature.
Yes, I do. I enjoy it a lot. I've enjoyed getting underneath people's skin and rile them up," he admitted. "I'm not a very big people's guy. So I like to rile them up a little bit and yeah, that's when I thrive.
Cena's final match takes place at Saturday Night's Main Event on December 13, streaming live on Peacock from the Capital One Arena.
