Jim Ross is out of brain surgery. Conrad Thompson confirmed Wednesday that the procedure went well, writing that he had heard from Ross’s daughter and that the 74-year-old is expected home by Friday.
Surgeons in Norman, Oklahoma implanted a shunt to drain excess fluid off Ross’s brain, the buildup doctors identified as the cause of the memory and balance problems that have followed him since the spring.
Ross described the operation himself in a post the day before, writing that a hole would be drilled in his skull and a small tube run into his stomach to manage the drainage. He said he was optimistic heading in.
The surgery closes out a stretch that began when Ross passed out at his home in the spring and was found there, leading to a hospital stay that ran more than a month. He was discharged at the end of June and confirmed the Wednesday date on Grilling JR last week.
Ross had been told to expect a single day in the hospital, so a Friday discharge would put him slightly past that. Thompson gave no indication of any complication.
All In And An Expiring AEW Deal
Recovery timing carries more weight than usual here. Ross has said he hopes to be well enough to travel to the United Kingdom for AEW All In: London on August 30.
His AEW contract also runs out this month. Ross said on Grilling JR that he has not signed a new deal, and that he would rather his career finish on a planned note than an abrupt one. He has been with the promotion since it launched in 2019, though his schedule has narrowed to a match or two per event as his health has limited travel.
