Kay Lee Ray says the framing of her WWE exit has been wrong. The wrestler formerly known as Alba Fyre told the Daily Star that she was not released by WWE, and that her contract simply expired without being renewed.
That distinction is why she was able to return at Pro Wrestling EVE in London this month with no waiting period attached. In her first
sit down interview since leaving WWE before her return to EVE: Woman of Wrestling in London, KLR tells Adam Cailler:
My contract was up and I knew it was coming up, and I had the decision of whether I wanted to stay or not,” Ray said in her first sit-down interview since leaving the company. “I know some other people got fired and they have the 90 days clause, but because mine was just a contract ending, it means I didn’t have the 90 days and I was able to come and do this.
WWE Departure and Beyond
Reporting around the post-WrestleMania 42 roster cuts had grouped Ray with the talents let go on April 24, a list that included Kairi Sane, Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, and the entire Wyatt Sicks faction. Released main-roster talent typically carries a 90-day non-compete clause before they can appear elsewhere.
Ray’s account explains how she turned up at EVE 150: History Makers / Rule Breakers on June 5 with no such restriction. She framed the appearance as a planned surprise, even if the wrestling audience had already guessed it.
I was able to come and do this and do it as kind of a surprise, but I know it wasn’t really a surprise,” she said.
Ray spent seven years with WWE across NXT UK, NXT, and the main roster, where she most recently appeared as part of Chelsea Green’s Secret Hervice on SmackDown. She looked back on the run without bitterness.
If I could sum up my time in WWE, I had fun, honestly, like start to end,” she said. “I got the job that I wanted to and I had fun while I was doing it with my friends. And now I get to come back and almost like start again.
She is keeping her next moves quiet for now, but confirmed more is coming.
I’m sure now you’re going to start seeing some things appearing. I’ve been speaking to a few people, so some things are going to be going out, but I’m kind of keeping that to myself.
