Mick Foley’s AEW debut came with an awkward moment, and the wrestling legend says it was all a simple mix-up.
The Hall of Famer appeared at Sunday’s AEW Redemption pay-per-view in a broadcasting capacity, which included a backstage interview segment with AEW Women’s Tag Team Champions Megan Bayne and Lena Kross. At the end of it, the pair told Foley to “bow down.” He responded by barking like a dog, a beat that dragged on long enough to leave viewers unsure whether something had gone wrong or a joke had simply missed.
After the segment lit up wrestling social media, Foley cleared it up himself on Instagram, framing it as a case of crossed wires.

Explanation aside, the exchange did its job. It planted the seed for The Brawling Birds, Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter, as future challengers, with Foley pointing out that Bayne and Kross have yet to beat the duo.
Foley is expected to be a more regular presence in AEW going forward, even if he won’t turn up every week. The 61-year-old was in Montreal for Redemption in a broadcast capacity and also posted afterward to congratulate Willow Nightingale on winning the AEW Women’s World Championship from Thekla.
