Mickie James believes Nick Aldis had accepted his role in WWE.
The wrestling legend recently spoke to Wrestling Life Online for a new interview. Among other things, she talked about her husband’s in-ring return at SummerSlam PPV and how emotional the whole thing was for their family including their son Donovan.
While discussing the importance of the moment for Nick Aldis, Mickie James shared the belief that the former NWA World Champion had given up on the idea of ever stepping in the ring for WWE as a wrestler after working as the SmackDown General Manager for so long:
I think that he had kind of just given up on that option completely and not in a way that was like ‘it’s hard’ but very satisfied in the role, and what he’s been doing, what he does on television and also behind the scenes.
Because he just loves wrestling so much and he’s very smart, very good at it. But I think that he had just kind of come to the conclusion like that’s not what.. they didn’t hire him to be a wrestler. This is who he is and he was okay.
James also talked about Aldis getting to use Morning Glory by Oasis as his entrance theme for his match. Mickie expressed hope that Nick will get to use the song again for a match in England, pitching the idea of him wrestling at one of the Clash series PPVs.
Nick Aldis was hired as a backstage producer by WWE in August 2023, and he debuted as the SmackDown General Manager in October that year. He faced Gunther in his first match in nearly three years at the SummerSlam PPV, where the Ring General picked up the victory.
