MJF wasted no time going after Sheamus once reports surfaced that the WWE veteran is nearing free agency. The reigning AEW World Champion resurfaced an old feud with the former WWE star on Saturday, mixing personal shots with what reads like an open recruitment pitch.
The callout arrived just as word spread that Sheamus’ WWE contract is nearing expiration, with the former World Champion expected to depart once the deal runs out. The exact date he becomes a free agent is not currently known.
MJF’s response revived an exchange dating back to September 2022. At the time, Sheamus fired at MJF with a GIF of Conor McGregor and the caption, “Who the fook is that guy?” The AEW champion dug that jab back up and made clear he had not forgotten it.
“The guy you alluded to,” MJF wrote. “Stop now or I’m gonna devour you. You can rock 6 inch lifts and play top guy, but you’ve been handed the ball multiple times and fell. I’m glad you’re having a resurgence and finally figured out how to get over. It only took you a decade.”
MJF shared the message via X (Twitter), reigniting the online rivalry between the two.
MJF’s shot lands from a position of strength. He regained the AEW World Championship by defeating Darby Allin at AEW Double or Nothing 2026, then successfully defended the title against Mark Briscoe on the July 1, 2026 edition of AEW Dynamite.
The self-proclaimed “Salt of the Earth” has never been shy about calling his shots, and Kevin Nash recently praised the “super talented” MJF for exactly that kind of edge. With Sheamus reportedly headed for the open market, the timing of MJF’s message reads as more than an old grudge.
