Sami Zayn has revealed the one message he didn’t expect after his title win.
The Undisputed Champion spoke to ESPN New York this week to discuss finally winning a World title in WWE. He talked about things such as how the day of Night of Champions went for him, the Bloodline being the turning point of his career and more.
Opening up about the reactions to his victory, the Ultimate Underdog mentioned that one of the things that overwhelmed him was the outpouring of support from people. Sami Zayn explained that getting messages saying that his win was ‘overdue’ and ‘deserved’ from people he respects has been really touching for him. He then revealed the message from one person he did not expect to reach out:
One message that I got that I guess I didn’t expect, although I didn’t expect it and it was extremely nice was from John Cena. He sent me a message and he just kind of reminded me of the difficulty of attaining this, and that less than 1% of people who ever aspire to do what we do ever gets to this point.
You Did It Your Way
Sami Zayn did not reveal the full message from John Cena, but he did give away the one line from the Cenation Leader that stuck with him:
And that’s not lost on me, but to hear it coming from him, just saying ‘congratulations.’ And one of one of the things he said that also really touched me is just that this is a genuinely earned, I don’t want to throw out personal stuff that he said to me, but the thing that stuck to me is just that he said ‘you really, you did it your way.’
The WWE Champion noted that the 17-time world champion did not have to message him at all, but it was one of the most touching texts for him because of how thoughtful a person John Cena is.
