Brock Rechsteiner, the son of WWE Hall of Famer Scott Steiner, has been suspended by the NFL for the first six games of the 2026 season, a ruling that lands on a rookie who already said publicly he plans to finish his athletic career in wrestling.
The league notified the New Orleans Saints on Thursday. Rechsteiner can still practice through training camp and play in preseason games, and the suspension only takes effect once teams cut down to 53 players on August 30, per ESPN.
The NFL’s transaction wire did not list a reason. Saints Wire reported the league pointed to a violation of the performance-enhancing substances policy, though the personnel notice itself carried no explanation and no details about the substance have been released. New Orleans Football’s Nick Underhill noted that PED bans typically open at four games and rise to six when there has been an attempted manipulation.
Rechsteiner Already Had WWE In His Plans
Rechsteiner signed a WWE Next In Line NIL deal in 2025 alongside his brother Brandon, and he has not been quiet about where he expects to land. Speaking with Sharief Ishaq of WDSU in May, he traced the plan back to the night his father and uncle went into the Hall of Fame.
It really inspired me when he got inducted into the Hall of Fame back in Dallas in 2022,” Rechsteiner said. “That inspired me to, once I’m done playing football, I want to pursue football as long as I can, play as long as I can, but once I’m done, I’ll get into wrestling too.
He credited his first cousin, Bron Breakker, as the family member pushing hardest.
I work out with him all the time back home,” Rechsteiner said. “He has really convinced me to, once I’m done playing football, to get into the wrestling business.
Scott Steiner has been saying much the same for a while. In 2025 he told an interviewer that Breakker’s rise had lit the fire under his son, and Brock’s WWE Next-In-Line signing put paperwork behind the idea.
Roster Odds Were Long Before The Suspension
Rechsteiner went undrafted out of Jacksonville State in 2026 after posting 36 catches for 383 yards and five touchdowns in his final college season. He earned his contract as a tryout player at Saints rookie minicamp in May, months after he had first drawn NFL interest in Tennessee.
Even before Thursday, he was a long shot against New Orleans’ receiver depth. With the Saints opening the season September 13 against Detroit, a six-game absence leaves almost no window to prove he belongs.
Breakker walked a version of the same road, signing with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent before turning to WWE and becoming one of the company’s biggest acts. For Brock, the wrestling side of the family business may have just moved closer.
