Bron Breakker expects his cousin Brock Rechsteiner to end up in WWE. He just wanted football to keep him busy a lot longer than it did.
Speaking with Atlanta’s 11Alive ahead of Sunday Night’s Main Event, Breakker was asked whether Rechsteiner would follow the family into wrestling. He said yes, eventually, then spent the rest of the answer arguing for the opposite.
“I think so, one day. I hope that Brock plays in the NFL for a long time,” Breakker said. “I hope he has a long and great career and gets everything that he wants out of that situation. Anything I can do as a cousin to help or any advice… I just want to be a helping hand for him.”
Breakker, who spent time with the Baltimore Ravens before signing with WWE, said he checks in with his cousin during training camp to keep his head right.
That answer now sits next to a very different update out of New Orleans. Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill reported that the team waived Rechsteiner on Sunday, August 30, as the roster was cut to 53 players.
The six-game suspension Rechsteiner received for violating the NFL and NFLPA performance-enhancing substances policy follows him wherever he signs next. He caught 52 passes for 630 yards and seven touchdowns across four seasons at Jacksonville State before going undrafted, then earned his Saints contract out of a rookie minicamp tryout in May.
WWE Has Already Done The Math
Fightful Select reported earlier this month that a company higher-up put the odds of a WWE offer at 99.9 percent once football ends, and that officials would sign him outright without a tryout. Rechsteiner signed a WWE NIL deal in 2025.
Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio that he expected Rechsteiner in WWE within a couple of months, and that his chances of sticking in New Orleans were slim either way.
Breakker has his own weekend to worry about first. He faces Oba Femi on September 6 at State Farm Arena in his hometown of Atlanta, in a match Paul Heyman booked around which of them is the future of WWE.
