Trick Williams isn’t committing to a United States Championship rematch. Four days after losing the title to Baron Corbin at SummerSlam, Williams used an appearance on ESPN Houston to float a considerably bigger target: Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk.
Asked where he goes from here, Williams left every door open and confirmed he’s given himself a deadline to decide.
I’ve got some retribution to get. What does that look like? I’m not sure yet. Do I want the United States Championship? Maybe. Do I want something different? You know, I had an encounter with CM Punk the night before [I lost my title]. I’m not sure exactly where I’m going to set my attention to, I have a couple of days to think about it. But, in the meantime, I went and picked me up a nice belt, iced out and blinged out from Ice Box for about $45,000 to replacement old belt that I just lost.
Williams dropped the title on August 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, ending a reign that started when he beat Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42 in April. Corbin got there the hard way, tugging the custom belt away from Lil Yachty at ringside, sending the rapper through a table, then cracking Williams with the title before the End of Days.
That was Corbin’s first official match back since returning to WWE in July, and it made him a two-time United States Champion barely three weeks into the run.
Williams And Punk Have Real History
The Punk thread isn’t new. Punk confronted Williams during a backstage segment on the July 31 SmackDown, with the then-champion teasing an Undisputed WWE Title chase of his own. Punk walked out of SummerSlam Night 1 still holding that championship.
Their connection predates the angle. Punk mentored Williams through his NXT run and served as special guest referee for Williams’ NXT Championship match against Ethan Page in 2024. Speaking to ESPN Houston, Williams didn’t hide what he wants.
He’s a GOAT, and any time you can share the ring with somebody who’s just done legendary things, had legendary moments you want to sit next to legends as much as possible. I would love that match with CM Punk.
Survivor Series Brings Him Back To Houston
The interview doubled as promotion for Survivor Series: WarGames, which runs November 28 at Daikin Park in Houston (Ticketmaster). It’s the 40th Survivor Series and the event’s first trip to Houston since 2017, with tickets going on sale August 7.
Williams has also spent the summer campaigning for a match with Booker T at SummerSlam in 2027, so the list of names he’s chasing keeps growing. Nothing has been announced for the August 7 SmackDown, which lands right at the end of the couple of days he said he needs.
