WWE is planning to rebuild its tag team picture around a few new pairings, according to a new report.
WrestleVotes Radio, on Fightful Select, says the company is refocusing on fresh teams while others remain in an uncertain spot.
On SmackDown, the report says Shinsuke Nakamura and Hiromu Takahashi are being positioned up front as challengers. It refers to the pairing as the consensus one, which is notable given WWE has not confirmed Takahashi’s identity. Nakamura teased his incoming partner in a digital exclusive last week, calling him a ticking time bomb, and the vignette contained brief flashes of Takahashi. Axiom and Nathan Frazer are also expected to get more television time.
The Vision hold the World Tag Team Championships through Bron Breakker and Austin Theory, and the report says finding challengers has been a subject of internal debate. The Street Profits are off television while Montez Ford celebrates the birth of his son, and Los Americanos are being kept off until at least after TripleMania.
That has led to discussion about pushing Ethan Page and Rusev as a more prominent team. The report says the idea is not settled, because some in WWE do not want either man to disappear into the tag division.
The Creed Brothers have returned to television on Main Event, but the report says they have not come up internally as potential challengers to The Vision.
