AJ Styles Believes Promotions That Want To Succeed Shouldn’t Compete With WWE

Former WWE Champion AJ Styles offered some interesting advice to other wrestling promotions in a recent interview with Newsweek, which released part 2 of their interview with the future WWE Hall of Famer.

This is where he was asked if WWE benefits from competition from other wrestling promotions. It should be noted that AEW, which just signed a weekly television with TNT that kicks in later this year, was not mentioned in this question. In his response, Styles said that indy promotions should never try to compete with WWE.

“As far as the indies and whatnot, I don’t think they should ever be competitive with the WWE,” Styles said.

As for the reason behind his mindset, it comes down to people not understanding how big WWE is on a global level. Instead, other promotions should compete with themselves to make sure they get better every day. In his eyes, there is no competition for WWE.

“If you want to succeed, don’t compete. Be something different, be the alternative. There’s a lot of people that have a good chance, but competition is always a great thing. I hope any company does well so they can be that competition. Competition will always make a better product.”
