Sonya Deville Talks Coming Out As Gay On Tough Enough

3

Sonya Deville just completed her first full year on the main roster. She spoke with Sky Sports in the UK regarding her WWE career thus far as well as her decision to tell Triple H about being gay while filming the show Tough Enough.

Deville was a contestant on the 6th season of Tough Enough in 2015. During the competition, she was asked if she was in a relationship at the time.

“Not only was I not expecting that question, I was in a bikini in high heels in front of Triple H and other WWE executives inside the ring! The other girls had spray tans and their extensions in, and they looked beautiful – and I was just like this MMA fighter chick. I felt so out of my comfort zone when they asked me that question,” Deville described her reaction to the situation.

“I thought ‘what do I do… well, tell the truth, right?’ So I said, ‘yeah, I have a girlfriend, but she’s not my wife yet’,” Deville continued. “I got nervous, and they all started smiling. I said, ‘oh my god, I just came out on national television’. And Triple H replied, ‘yeah you did!’ I just came back with, ‘oh well, that’s that!'”

Deville continued to say she takes her position as a role model for others seriously, backs UK’s Rainbow Laces campaign, and tries to help as many people as she can looking for support on social media.

Sonya Deville on Smackdown

Deville and Mandy Rose have been aligned since both debuted on Raw last year as part of Paige’s “Absolution” faction. They went through Tough Enough and developmental together and even have a YouTube show where they sample donuts. There appears to be some dissension between the two building on Smackdown, however. It’s possible the team could be feuding with each other before WWE even introduces tag-team titles for the women’s divisions.

‘Hurricane’ Shane Helms Clarifies His Position In Ring Of Honor

4

Earlier in the summer, Ring Of Honor announced that they had signed “Hurricane” Shane Helms to a deal that would see the wrestler become a part of the ROH roster. In that time, the Hurricane has had a number of matches with The Villain, Marty Scurll.

Despite this initial Superhero vs Villain offering, Shane Helms hasn’t been featured heavily on ROH’s TV output, leading some to speculate there could be issues between Helms and ROH.

Speaking with Jim Ross on Ross’ popular Ross Report podcast, the Hurricane took the opportunity to clear the air and clarify the situation.

Helms states that he is still a part of the Ring Of Honor roster, but confesses that “[…] we just haven’t agreed to dates.”

“We’re on wonderful terms. They are super happy with me. They’re happy with how everything worked out with me and Marty Scurll. Yeah, I like [ROH]. I like the locker room. They’re very positive. Everybody’s busy.”

His feud with The Villain saw them wrestle four times since Helms’ initial signing. The record stood at a win a piece and a no-contest before Scurll ultimately came out on top over the former WWE Cruiserweight champion.

Who would you like to see “Hurricane” Shane Helms feud with next in ROH? Is ROH a good home for Helms?

Bray Wyatt Returns To WWE Last Night (Video), Starrcade Lineup For Tonight

0

WWE will air part of last night’s Starrcade show from Cincinnati tonight. For the second year in a row, WWE has used the Starrcade name for a house show held the weekend the event used to be held annually by the NWA and then later by WCW.

Bray Wyatt returned to WWE last night on the show. He answered an open challenge by current Raw temporary GM, Baron Corbin.

The following Twitter user captured video of Wyatt’s return:

The last time Bray Wyatt was shown on WWE programming was back in August. He continued to wrestle tag matches with Matt Hardy up until September. After discovering his lower back and pelvis had begun to fuse together due to a career’s worth of injuries, Matt Hardy moved into a backstage role with WWE and Wyatt was left in limbo.

WWE Starrcade Lineup For the WWE Network

WWE will air a one-hour show featuring 4 segments from last night’s Starrcade show in Cincinnati. Although this could change, here are the segments which are currently scheduled to air:

  • Steel Cage
    AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe

Silas Young Defines What It Means To Be A ‘Real Man’

0

Channelling a gritty, old-school mentality, Ring Of Honor’s Silas Young purports to be the ‘Last Real Man’ in pro wrestling.

Speaking with the WINCLY podcast, Young offered his opinion on what defines a ‘real man’ in this day and age.

“It means to stick to your guns,” he explained. “When you make a decision, [you] make a decision and stand by it. Don’t back-pedal. Stand up for what you believe in.”

He does note during the interview, however, that your core beliefs should not hurt others, and stresses the importance of remaining true and positive for yourself.

“[Being a ‘real man’] also means that realizing what you believe and what you stand for, is something that’s not hurting other people, that you’re doing something for yourself,” he extrapolated. “It’s just basically being a good person and standing by your word.”

Silas Young has made a name for himself within Ring Of Honor as a brash throwback to a time when men would say little but could hit hard, if needed. Gruff, to the point, and prone to brawling rather than talking.

Young was previously aligned with the Beer City Bruiser and, for a short time, Brian Milanos before distancing himself from them as he continues to climb the ROH rankings.

What do you think of Silas’ take on what it means to be a ‘real man’? Agree or disagree? Do you think ‘The Last Real Man’ gimmick works in 2018?

Rey Fenix Injured At CMLL Show

0

It was only a few months ago that the internet was rife with rumors and speculation over where the Lucha Bros. (Rey Fenix and Penatgon Jr.) would end up.

Unfortunately for Rey Fenix, it appears the answer for him is: at home, healing.

Taking to Instagram, Rey Fenix updated his fans on his current situation, explaining that he would be taking the rest of 2018 off in order to heal and rehab his body. The luchador suffered an unfortunate injury, straining his groin, at a recent CMLL event.

“Hello everyone. Today I don’t have a good news. Yesterday night, I wrestle one of the most important matches in CMLL #LaLeyendaDePlata. Like every match I wrestle my 100% excited and passionate. With a schedule that has seen him extensively travel the world throughout 2018, wrestling for promotions such as CMLL, AAA, MLW, Impact Wrestling, and Lucha Underground, Fenix has been on an undeniable run this year.

We wish Rey Fenix a speedy recovery and look forward to what he achieves come 2019.

Information Regarding Drake Maverick At Survivor Series

8

One week ago at Survivor Series, AOP picked up a victory for Raw by defeating SmackDown tag team champions, Sheamus and Cesaro. However, their victory that night might not be what most people remember from their matchup.

During the match, AOP manager — and 205 Live General Manager — Drake Maverick, suffered a rather unfortunate mishap on live TV. Having been chased by Cesaro, he was subsequently knocked down by the Big Show. Maverick was then hoisted onto the ring apron where he would proceed to urinate himself out of fear.

As noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the contraption that Maverick used to produce fake urine didn’t work as expected.

During the sequence, you can see Maverick adjusting the device in an attempt to remedy the problem. Supposedly it wasn’t enough to fix the issue so Maverick, being the consummate professional he is, purposely urinated himself in order to make sure the angle went off as planned.

Drake Maverick has a positive reputation backstage as a great team player, so his commitment to his role at that moment may have some credence to it.

What did you make of this angle? Does Drake Maverick deserve recognition for ensuring it went off as planned?

Not Even AJ Styles Knows What The Future Holds

10

There has been much speculation over what the future holds for AJ Styles when his WWE contract expires next year. With New Japan Pro Wrestling potentially interested in him, and alternatives such as All Elite Wrestling coming into play, the Phenomenal One has a number of choices before him.

Turns out that not even AJ Styles is sure of what the future will hold for himself.

Speaking candidly, Styles opened up during the filming of the WWE Network’s latest episode to their 365 series. The show followed and documented a year of AJ’s life with the company.

When asked what was left for him to accomplish or achieve, he replied with:

“What’s left for me? I don’t really know,” he confessed. “I always will find something new and I’m not sure what that new is quite yet, but at the same time, I’ve been doing this for 19 years and at what point do I go and call it quits? I don’t know what that is, but I can tell you I’m very proud of the year that I had.”

Styles is at an interesting point in his WWE career having just lost the belt to Daniel Bryan prior to Survivor Series. This loss broke the impressive streak he was accruing. Having asked for a pared-back schedule akin to Randy Orton’s, it will be interesting to see if the WWE grant him his requests and, if not, how Styles will respond.

What do you think of AJ’s response? More importantly, where would you like him to end up?

Jessamyn Duke Impressing Coaches At WWE Performance Center

2

Four Horsewoman of MMA, Jessamyn Duke, has been impressing her coaches at the WWE Performance Center. In fact, the former UFC fighter has been declared “a natural” much like her training partner, Ronda Rousey, has been.

Sean Waltman was backstage at NXT WarGames over the weekend. He mentioned that he was speaking to people backstage from developmental who are very impressed with Duke’s progression.

“I’m getting some high praise for Jessamyn Duke actually,” Waltman said on his latest podcast. “She’s doing fantastic from what I hear.”

Waltman said that is the opinion of those in high-up positions in developmental who are impressed with her. “Apparently, she is (a natural),” Waltman continued.

Jessamyn Duke WWE

Duke started her pro MMA career in 2012. She then competed on the Ultimate Fighter in 2013 and received Fight of the Night honors for her bout with Raquel Pennington.

By 2016, Duke was focussing on a Twitch video game streaming gig along with friend and teammate, Shayna Baszler. Once Baszler was signed to NXT and Rousey to WWE, Duke moved to Orlando and the team set up camp there. In May, she started training at the Performance Center along with Marina “the Supernova from Moldova” Shafir at the PC. Shafir is married to Roderick Strong and the couple had a child together last year.

Cody Defends IWGP United States Title In Staring Match Against Joey Ryan (Video)

3

Both Joey Ryan and Cody are on the injured list at the moment. That didn’t stop them from having a match for World Series Wrestling in Melbourne, however. In fact, Cody put his IWGP United States title on the line.

The catch is the match was contested under “staring contest” rules.

World Series Wrestling was founded in 2005 by Adrian Menara. They often bring in several big names for their tours. Much of WSW’s content can be seen on the Global Wrestling Network streaming service which is largely associated with Impact Wrestling.

Cody vs Joey Ryan – IWGP United States Championship – Staring Contest Rules

Cody tore his meniscus at the Global Wars: Buffalo show earlier this month. He was then unable to make his planned title defense against Beretta on the final night of the tour in Toronto.

Joey Ryan tore his pec recently (something he mentioned has been going around). Ryan wrestled with his arm in a sling at the last MLW show where he teamed with Swoggle under the team name “Size Matters”.

Cody will go into the final weeks of the year working injured at ROH’s Final Battle. He will be in the main event against Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship.

Adidas Takes Issue With Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment Logo

9

It looks like the famed sneaker and clothing brand, Adidas, has taken issue with Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment logo. McMahon created Alpha Entertainment to front his XFL relaunch project. The XFL will officially kickoff in 2020. McMahon’s first attempt at the XFL failed in the early 2000s. Now, it appears that he wants to give it a second go.

As the XFL prepares for kickoff, it looks like McMahon is facing issues regarding Alpha Entertainment’s logo. Adidas has reached out to the United States Patent & Trademark Office and asked for more time to oppose the logo McMahon registered for the company.

Adidas feels as though the logo infringes upon their brand. The company has been given a March 6, 2019 deadline to file an opposition or another extension before doing so.

Earlier this year McMahon held a press conference on Alpha Entertainment’s YouTube channel, announcing the XFL relaunch. McMahon’s goal is to make the XFL “football reimagined” from the NFL’s product. This could mean anything from shortening the game, changing of the rules to make it more physical, or anything else. No news has surfaced in regards to team names and where they might be located, but expect more on that in the coming months.

Do you think McMahon will be forced to make changes to his Alpha Entertainment logo?

Alexa Bliss Denies Retirement Rumors

1

The retirement rumors regarding Alexa Bliss don’t seem to be going anywhere. After dealing with too many concussions, Bliss has been sidelined from WWE competition in recent weeks. As a result, “Little Miss Bliss” has been forced to miss events like Evolution and Survivor Series. It remains unclear when Bliss could make her return to in-ring action.

PWInsider has reported that there is some concern regarding her status as an in-ring talent. It was also reported that Bliss could serve as the replacement for Baron Corbin for the RAW General Manager role. Corbin’s stint might be coming to an end, as his GM role will be on the line against Braun Strowman at the Tables Ladders and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV).

In the wake of Bliss’ injury woes, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating about her future. There have been plenty of rumors going around indicating that Bliss will be retiring from in-ring competition. Of course, it’s way too soon to make such a determination. Bliss recently reacted to these rumors on Instagram.

Bliss denied the rumors, and even promised to return to the ring soon, saying “sure sure… I’ll be back in the ring soon. Thank you tho.”

What do you think about Bliss denying recent retirement rumors?

More On WWE’s WrestleMania Plans For Shane McMahon

15

WWE is putting a lot of thought into what they have planned for SmackDown Live Commissioner Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 35. This year’s “Show Of Shows” goes down from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on April 7, 2019. Initially, the plan was for McMahon to feud with Daniel Bryan heading into the pay-per-view (PPV).

However, WWE’s plans changed once Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles for the WWE Championship recently. WWE has been teasing a Shane McMahon heel turn in recent weeks, which was supposed to play into his feud with Bryan. McMahon won the WWE World Cup at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia, which was an unfavorable decision to say the least. Also, McMahon can’t be happy SmackDown Live didn’t pick up a single win over RAW at Survivor Series.

Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s Dave Meltzer reports that a big part of McMahon’s character change will have to do with his World Cup win and SDL’s failure at Survivor Series. His character change is expected to really vamp up in the first quarter of 2019 before a big WrestleMania 35 match is set up. It remains unclear what exactly that match will be.

However, McMahon and The Miz might have set up an interesting angle last week. Miz asked McMahon to be his Tag Team partner, before losing a match to a pair of local jobbers without even tagging McMahon into the match. It will be interesting to see how McMahon’s road to WrestleMania plays out.

What do you think WWE should do with McMahon for WrestleMania 35?

Daniel Bryan Not Advertised for Upcoming WWE Live Events

2

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan appears to be taking time off. The Champion was not advertised for today’s Starrcade live event in Cincinnati, OH. Bryan is also not advertised for this Sunday’s live show Madison, WI.

As a further note Bryan isn’t being advertised for next weekend’s Smackdown Live house show events. The shows are taking place in Arlington, TX and Calgary, Canada. Bryan is still scheduled to appear at Tuesday’s SmackDown Television taping in Minneapolis, MN.

Opinion: There’s no reported injury concerns for Bryan and he may well just be taking some needed time off. WWE does like their top Champion to appear at the house shows to boost ticket sales and AJ Styles as a prime example of this over the past year. Bryan’s concussion history is well documented and a reduced house show schedule for him going forward may be perfect…although whether he will be taking time off of the house show loop going forward isn’t confirmed. Bryan is also acclimatising to his new ‘heel’ gimmick on the Blue brand. WWE may be looking to help further establish his new persona by keeping him off of certain shows and no longer being a champion ‘for the people.’ Again, this is not confirmed and just speculation at this point.

Trevor Lee Says He Would Love To Go To WWE

1

Trevor Lee says that he would love to work for the WWE and it has been his dream to do so.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, the former Impact X Division Champion said that he is keen on signing with the WWE or New Japan Pro Wrestling after he becomes a free agent in January.

“I would love to go to WWE or New Japan,” Lee told SI. “I’ve done a lot in the United States in terms of big independent companies, I’ve wrestled in Mexico, Canada, England, and India, but I’d love to go to Japan.”

The 25 year-old has worked with Pro Wrestling Guerilla since 2014 and has been in the ring with names such as the Young Bucks, Kevin Owens, and Cody Rhodes. He believes the best work that he’s done yet hasn’t been on TV and he wants his fans to see the real Trevor Lee.

“The best work that I’ve ever done in my life has never been on TV. My TV work has been to help the product, but outside of that is where you see the real Trevor Lee.”

Lee’s says he wants to do something for his father the late Tracy Caddell, who was the co-founder of the OMEGA Championship Wrestling promotion.

“I’m not chasing my father’s dreams, but I do want to do something for him,” said Lee. “And it’s for me, as well. Ultimately, I would like to go to WWE.

“That’s the dream. It’s always something my father really wanted for me. He was actually an extra the first time the Hardy Boyz won the tag team titles in Fayetteville. He was an extra in the segment before that, the one with the APA. My father was very much in love with the business.”

He also revealed that he is willing to try anything and wouldn’t mind giving 205 Live a shot too.

“I’m willing to try anything,” said Lee. “I wouldn’t mind wrestling in the 205 Live scene. It’s a good spot with great talent, I like those matches. I feel like I can compete in the top guy scene, too. Guys like Rollins and Balor aren’t that big, and I feel like I could be right there with them.

13

Despite having suffered a tragic, career-ending injury, Paige has managed to segue herself into a new position within the WWE as SmackDown Live’s General Manager. This has allowed her an opportunity to stay within an industry she loves and maintain an on-screen character to portray. If Paige has her way, however, General Manager may not be her final role.

Speaking with Planeta Wrestling, Paige revealed that she is open to exploring different creative directions and opportunities within the WWE.

During the interview, she expressed specific interest in managing other talents, highlighting the relationship between Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar as one she would like to potentially emulate.

“Right now, I’m really happy being SmackDown General Manager,” Paige admitted. “It’s opened so many different doors and I get to do so many different characters just being Smackdown General Manager — I get to be a good guy, bad guy, I get to do whatever I want,” she said.

“I would love to be a manager — kinda like Paul Heyman, one day,” she confessed. “I would love to do anything like that. I wanted to manage Ronda at one point, but she doesn’t need me!”

Who could you see Paige managing if she were to do so? Would she have made a good manager for Ronda Rousey?

Information On Becky Lynch’s Projected Return Date

3

With Becky Lynch having suffered a concussion and broken nose due to a heavy strike from Nia Jax, fans are eager to know when she will be medically cleared to come back to the ring.

Unfortunately, according to Dave Meltzer, it won’t be anytime soon. He noted, “Yeah, [Becky Lynch is] off of everything. No return date. Well, it’s a concussion. Becky Lynch and Alexa Bliss are still waiting.”

That one punch from Jax, which took place on the Monday Night Raw before Survivor Series, would deprive the WWE Universe of the hotly anticipated confrontation between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey at Survivor Series.

Nia Jax would receive a raucous negative reaction from the Los Angeles crowd when she made her entrance for the 5 v 5 Women’s Survivor Series clash. She would eventually lead Team Raw to victory, showing off the hand that had hurt Lynch throughout.

Despite not having a projected return date at this time, Becky Lynch has managed to maintain and grow her surge of popularity, using her social media accounts to great effect.

Whether it’s an exchange with Conor McGregor or having to remind the WWE that she is their SmackDown Women’s champion, the Lass Kicker has guaranteed she remains relevant as she strives towards her return.
