Why Was Paul Heyman At WWE Performance Center?, WWE Stars’ First Matches On Raw

1

– Paul Heyman was at the WWE Performance Center for a few days last week running promo classes with talent, according to PWInsider.

On Friday, the official Instagram account of NXT posted photos of Heyman teaching Bianca Belair and Kona Reeves on “how to address a sold-out crowd.”

Bayley attended the class and posted a photo on her Instagram Story of Heyman instructing Lars Sullivan.

The Miz Vs. Daniel Bryan SummerSlam Update, Is Matt Hardy’s Time In The Ring Nearly Up?

28

Last week on Smackdown Daniel Bryan challenged the Miz to a match at SummerSlam. The Miz responded via titantron and denied Bryan’s request. The Miz is keeping up kayfabe by continuing the angle on Twitter.

https://twitter.com/mikethemiz/status/1025774494349225984

The Miz and Daniel Bryan have a history that dates back to the first season of NXT where The Miz was Bryan’s “pro” and continued to berate Bryan up until his elimination. Last year their feud escalated as Bryan called Miz’s wrestling style “too safe” and the Miz retaliated by bringing up the fact that it was because of Bryan’s unsafe style is the reason why he wasn’t cleared to wrestle at the moment.

It has been rumored that the two will face each other at SummerSlam with an added stipulation.

Matt Hardy’s Health Scare

Recent reports have indicated that Matt Hardy’s time in the ring may be limited due to an undisclosed health condition. Recently on twitter Hardy let the fans know what the condition is.

While Hardy has not officially stated his retirement, it is expected to be announced very soon and possibly on WWE television

Kane On His Election Win, Vince McMahon’s Reaction

10

The new mayor of Knox County has been humble in recent interview about his recent win.

“The entire thing is humbling. The reason I won is that I had a great team around me. Those folks invested their time and their energy into helping me because they believed in me, and that’s very humbling. Also, people were willing to vote for me and tie their future to me, which is humbling and also a huge responsibility.”

His win comes from the defeat of Democratic opponent Linda Haney. Reports are coming in and the numbers indicate that Jacobs (Kane) had 51,804 votes whereas Haney had 26,224 votes.

Vince McMahon On Jacob’s Win

“Vince has been very supportive throughout this entire endeavor. He reached out to extend his congratulations.” “Vince wants all of us to do well, no matter what we’re doing, because it reflects well on the company.” Before continuing his response, Jacobs was forced to compose himself. “On a personal level, between me and him, it’s important to me that he is proud of me. He’s done so much for me and for my family. He sent me a text that got me all choked up.”

Jacobs victory was brief as he finished off the interview by thanking his wife and kids and plans to get started as soon as possible.

Report: Television Ratings for Episode 2 of WoS/World of Sport on ITV

4

WoS/World of Sport held their second episode this weekend on ITV and the ratings for the show appear to have been released.

Last week’s numbers released by an ‘insider’ at the DigitalSpy website were instantly refuted by a production staff member at ITV. These latest numbers for the August 4th episode have again been revealed by a user at the DigitalSpy forum however these do not appear to have yet been disputed.

The numbers are being reported as follows:

  • 17:00 – WOS Wrestling: 609k (6.8%) * tapechecked: 584k (6.6%)
  • ABC1 Adults: 204k (5.6%) 33.5% skew
  • Adults 16-34: 63k (6.0%) 10.3% skew
  • Adults 16-54: 210k (6.6%) 34.5% skew
  • Housewives with Children: 29k (4.1%) 4.8% skew
  • All Housewives: 373k (6.9%) 61.2% skew
  • Men: 262k (6.9%) 43.0% skew
  • Children: 50k (7.4%) 8.2% skew

Whilst the number may appear to be alarming (it could be) there are a number of factors to consider. Television ratings from the ‘overnight’ scale put WoS at around the 600k mark and compared to more established programmes in and around the 5pm time slot it does not skew wildly out. Here’s the ratings from ITV that evening:

  • 16:00 – The Chase: 759k (10.0%)
    * tapechecked: 767k (10.2%)
  • 17:00 – WOS Wrestling: 609k (6.8%)
    * tapechecked: 584k (6.6%)
  • 18:00 – ITV Evening News: 1.64m (16.3%)
  • 18:15 – ITV Regional News: 1.83m (18.0%)
  • 18:30 – Japandemonium: 1.11m (10.1%)

*Courtesy of DigitalSpy

Another factor to consider is the 8pm ratings for the big two television stations in the UK. BBC1 had 1.80m (13.3%) whilst ITV had 1.05m (7.8%). This is potentially a record low in the history of recorded television viewing in the United Kingdom, this is possibly due to the ongoing heatwave in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Again the numbers that are being published as a standalone do look worrying, however factoring in that this is the second episode of a brand new venture for ITV and looking at how the overall landscape of television in the UK had an arguably abysmal night this certainly does not sound the death knell for WoS…but there are improvements to be made.

Hulk Hogan Teasing Big Announcement, WWE Profile On New NXT Personality, Renee Young

38

– Hulk Hogan is teasing a big announcement for October 27.

On Saturday, “The Hulkster” appeared at the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland, Ohio and while firing up a large crowd of fans, the WWE Hall of Famer teased a big announcement.

“All the brothers out here with the nWo shirts on, something really special is going to be going down,” Hogan said.

“Just remember, the date, October 27. Go to HulkHogan.com, something very special is gonna happen October 27.”

On the front page of HulkHogan.com, there is a message from Hogan (or Hollywood Hulk Hogan) that reads:

“Something big is coming and it’s going to be 2 sweet brother – Hollywood HH
Save the date, October 27th.”

Hogan also addressed his reinstatement into the WWE Hall of Fame during his speech.

“There’s a lot of stuff going on. WWE put Hulk Hogan back in the Hall of Fame,” Hogan said to a rousing ovation.

“That means I get to go back and beat Vince McMahon up one more time.”

– WWE.com has added a profile on the newest member of NXT’s broadcast team, Sarah Schreiber.

Schreiber began working for WWE in April at WrestleMania Axxess and quickly became a fixture at NXT live events in Florida as she often serves as a ring announcer and host. She recently began appearing on NXT television in a role similar to Renee Young.

An actress since childhood, Schreiber has a long list of film and TV credits to her name, which includes appearances on Late Show with David Letterman, NCIS: New Orleans, All My Children, Bloodline and Ugly Betty.

Ronda Rousey Fires Shot At Bayley and Sasha Banks, Lex Luger vs. Hollywood Hogan Flashback

7

– A photo Bayley shared on Instagram of herself with Sasha Banks on Thursday drew a negative response from Ronda Rousey.

“The Baddest Woman on the Planet” replied in the comments, “fauxhorsewomen.”

Banks quickly responded to Rousey’s remark, writing, “I hope Alexa wins (hahaha).”

https://instagram.com/p/Bl_NXx9gBTB/

Bayley responded to Rousey with the following: “tell your girls to get some ring gear. We’re waiting.”

https://twitter.com/BayleyPromoWWE/status/1025380478419759105

Rousey and Bayley’s banter is in reference to a simmering rivalry between WWE’s Four Horsewomen (Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Sasha Banks) and the Four Horsewomen of MMA (Rousey Rousey, Shayna Baszler, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke). Both groups had a confrontation behind the scenes at the Mae Young Classic last year (sans Sasha, who was doing a media tour in Australia), but WWE didn’t follow up on it.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IFRWGOONrg&w=560&h=315]

– On Saturday, it was exactly 21 years ago Lex Luger beat Hollywood Hogan on WCW Monday Nitro, making “The Total Package” the first WCW competitor to defeat the nWo’s leader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uamtp8eYpfE&w=620&h=349]

Luger acknowledged this memorable moment today in a brief Twitter exchange with a fan.

Undertaker Reveals Custom Gun Safe (Photo), Carmella On Charlotte’s Addition To SummerSlam Match

6

Undertaker Reveals Custom Gun Safe (Photo)

Since joining Instagram, The Undertaker has been revealing a lot more about his real personality. It turns out “The Dead Man” is actually a pretty big gun enthusiast. He took to his Instagram and revealed a gift his wife, former WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool, got him for Father’s Day.

Taker showed off a new custom safe, with one of his guns, for his “2a toys” (second amendment toys). The safe reads “Deadman Inc.” and also has Taker’s logo under it:

Carmella Reacts To Charlotte’s Addition To SummerSlam Title Match

On this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Charlotte Flair was added to the SmackDown Live Women’s Title match at SummerSlam. Carmella will now defend her strap in a Triple Threat match against Flair and Becky Lynch at “The Biggest Party Of The Summer.”

Carmella took to Twitter and voiced her displeasure for Charlotte’s addition to the match:

John Morrison Reveals If He’s Open To WWE Return

34

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion John Morrison was recently interviewed by CBS DC to talk about several professional wrestling topics. During the conversation, Morrison was asked about a possible return to WWE.

Morrison is a former ECW World Champion, Intercontinental Champion and Tag Team Champion under WWE. His run lasted for nine years from 2002 to 2011, before he departed to the independent circuit.

Since then Morrison has worked for various promotions such as Lucha Underground, AAA, IMPACT Wrestling and more.

In regards to a possible WWE return, Morrison admitted that WWE is a great company. Despite this, he assured that there are plenty of other cool promotions out there to work for. He’s happy with where he is currently at this point in his career and isn’t looking for a change:

“WWE is a great company. There is nothing specific on the horizon between me and them right now. I plan on staying with Lucha Underground for a while. As far as do I see anything on the horizon? Who knows.

“When I left WWE in 2012, I was planning on taking a year off, and now that’s turned into quite a while. But I couldn’t be happier outside of WWE right now, because of places like MLW, Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground and independent promotions all over the place.

“There are a lot of really cool places to work outside of WWE, and I’m having a really great time doing that right now.”

WWE’s Rumored Plans For Asuka

9

It looks like more changes could be coming to yet another title match on WWE’s SummerSlam card.

As it stands, Carmella is defending her SmackDown Live Women’s Title in a Triple Threat match against Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch. Asuka is being advertised to face Carmella on SmackDown Live in Orlando next week.

With a potential Asuka victory it’s rumored she could be added into the SmackDown Live Women’s Title match at SummerSlam. This is similar to how Charlotte Flair earned her way into the SmackDown Live Women’s Title match.

That would make the SmackDown Live Women’s Title match a Fatal Four-Way bout.

Asuka’s WWE Run

Asuka signed with WWE back in 2015. She went on an undefeated streak that lasted two years through her run in NXT and the main roster. Asuka won the NXT Women’s Title and eventually relinquished it upon her main roster move.

Her streak ended at WrestleMania 34 when she was defeated by Charlotte Flair. Flair successfully defended her then-SDL Women’s Title. Since being defeated Asuka has lost several times on WWE TV. It should be interesting to see if Asuka ever gets a World Title run on the WWE’s main roster after having her streak snapped.

Kofi Kingston On The Best Part Of Being A WWE Superstar

2

Kofi Kingston recently spoke to The Orlando Sentinel to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Kingston talked about his journey through the professional wrestling world and finally landing with WWE.

At one point, Kingston discussed the best part about being a WWE Superstar. He said that having the ability to inspire others and put a smile on children’s faces takes the cake:

“I’m just a guy. I happen to be on TV, which causes a lot of kids and even some adults to look up to me. … To see a child smiling because he met me is awesome, because who knows what it might inspire?

“It might inspire him to do something he didn’t think he was going to do, to become a wrestler or become a doctor or whatever he wants.

“To be able to put a smile on somebody’s face or bring joy to somebody’s life is probably the best part of being a WWE superstar to me.”

Kingston’s WWE Career

Kingston has been with WWE since 2006 where he worked for the company’s Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) territory. Upon being called-up to the main roster, Kingston has led a successful WWE tenure.

He is a several time Intercontinental, United States and Tag Team Champion. Kingston is also one-third of one of the most successful WWE tag teams off all time, The New Day.

The Miz Rejects Daniel Bryan’s Challenge For SummerSlam

6

According to the Miz, he will not face Daniel Bryan at this year’s SummerSlam. Bryan challenged Miz to a match at the biggest event of the summer but Miz told him this week on Smackdown that elite talent like him can’t just be goaded into a match.

Miz just recently responded conclusively that he will not face Bryan at SummerSlam. He posted the following to his Instagram:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmEBUe0gwSC/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=embed_loading_state_control

The Miz vs Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam Not Happening

“I’ve heard his challenge, I’ve seen your questions, and my answer is no, no, no,” Miz said.

“I deserve better than a match with Daniel Bryan,” Miz continued. “So, the answer is no.”

Last week, Daniel Bryan also crashed the premiere party for Miz’s reality TV show “Miz and Mrs.” Bryan will likely have some response to the Miz next week on Smackdown.

SummerSlam 2018 Lineup

Without Bryan vs Miz on the event, there are 9 confirmed matches.

  1. Universal Championship
Brock Lesnar (c) vs Roman Reigns
  2. Raw Women’s Championship
Alexa Bliss (c) vs Ronda Rousey
  3. WWE Championship
AJ Styles (c) vs Samoa Joe
  4. MITB Briefcase Match
Braun Strowman (MITB) vs Kevin Owens
  5. Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs Seth Rollins
  6. Smackdown Women’s Championship
Carmella (c) vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair
  7. Cruiserweight Championship

  8. United States Championship
Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Jeff Hardy

Ric Flair On His Recovery 1-Year After Health Scare

0

Last summer, the wrestling world almost lost one of the greatest of all-time. Ric Flair was placed in a medically-induced coma in mid-August 2017.

The 69-year-old Flair is almost completely recovered he says. Flair spoke with Sports Illustrated earlier this week.

“It’s almost a year ago, August 14, when I went through everything with my surgery,” said Flair. “But now I feel great. I just had another surgery a couple weeks ago to reverse the stoma. Now I need a couple of months of rest, and I still can’t work out yet, but I feel fantastic. It’s a miracle.”

Ric Flair On His Health

According to Flair, he’s doing better physically than many wrestlers of his generation.

“I’m not physically banged up,” he said. “I feel great. My knees, elbows, and back, they don’t bother me at all right now. When I look at my friends with back operations, hip replacements, knee replacements, I’m just thankful I’m in one piece because so many have been through a lot.”

Over the last year, Flair has consistently mentioned what a big help Hulk Hogan was to him during his recovery. Flair has been a big supporter of Hogan’s reinstation to the WWE Hall of Fame.

“Hulk has had like nine back operations,” Flair continued. “Guys in my generation and even the generation younger than me are all physically banged up much more than me, but I’m lucky to be doing great. Thank you to all who’ve asked.”

Flair also commented on Charlotte taking time off recently.

“She was at the ESPYs, presented an award, and did the ‘Body Issue’ for ESPN,” Flair said of his daughter’s summer thus far. “She’s built her brand, and her brand gets bigger every day. By the time she’s ready to figure out whether she wants to stay in the business as an executive or do something else, her brand will be that big where she’ll be able to make the choices she wants. I’m really happy for her.”

UK Independent Company Frustrated by NXT UK Talent Policy

0

One of the longest running and respected promotions in the United Kingdom have released a statement on their frustrations with the NXT UK talent policy.

Southside Wrestling were set to welcome back their Tag Team Champions Joseph Conners and El Ligero (The Joseph Conners Experience with Ligs) to face The Rascalz at their Retribution event on August 19th in St Neots.

Both Conners and Ligero are no longer scheduled to appear at the event due to their contractual obligations to NXT UK, according to Southside “WWEUK competitors are no longer allowed to work Indy shows one week prior to their own live events.” NXT UK are scheduled to appear as part of the Insomnia Gaming Festival on August 25th/26th. NXT UK contracted talent Dan Maloney will also no longer be able to participate in the Retribution event, however this is due to injury.

Conners and Ligero are mainstays in the Southside promotion and have held the Tag Team Championships for nearly an entire year. The team defeated GBH at Menace II Society VII in a Tables match on August 5th 2017 to claim the belts.

Southside has announced that there will be a Triple Threat tag team bout to determine Number 1 contenders to their Tag Team Championships with The Hooligans, The Rascalz and GBH competing.

Jerry Lawler Comments On Losing His Son

12

Brian Christopher was buried yesterday in Memphis. His friends and family prepared a custom-made casket for him they say he would have loved. It was decked out in Pittsburgh Steelers colors and logos with “Grand Master Sexay” on the top.

Local 24 Memphis news was on-hand to cover the funeral. They spoke with many of Brian’s friends as well as with his father, Jerry Lawler.

Jerry Lawler Comments On Brian Christopher’s Funeral

“This is gotta be one of the toughest days of my life and if I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times,” Lawler said. “They say the toughest thing for anybody to do is have to bury a child and that’s what we’re going through today.”

“My fiance Lauren and I are standing next to the casket and I keep looking down almost expecting Brian to sit up and start laughing,” Lawler continued. “It’s just tough.”

Brian’s friends spoke of remembering their friend as funny, fun, and as having a big heart. They also remembered him as willing to go out of his way to make someone laugh. Other friends say he was always quick to help a friend in need.

Investigation Into Brian Christopher’s Death

There is currently an active investigation into the circumstances surrounding Brian Christopher’s death. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has asked family not to comment publicly on the ongoing case.

A lawyer for the family has made a public comment that they are hoping to receive camera footage from within the jail to gain a better understanding of how he was being housed.

The Sherrif’s department has stated Brian was being housed in a cell by himself but was not in solitary confinement.

Will Ospreay Hypes WoS and Former X Division Champion and UK Legend Announced for Tonight’s Show

1

WoS/World of Sport will be returning to ITV for their second episode tonight at 5pm UK time.

Arguably the biggest news emanating from last week’s (re)debut episode was the appearance of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Will Ospreay. The CHAOS stable member took part in a bout against Davey Boy Smith Jr which gained plaudits not just from the ‘hardcore’ fans of the UK scene but also from the more ‘causal’ viewers who voiced their opinions on social media. Ospreay’s aerial prowess has seemingly helped to change perceptions of professional wrestling amongst viewers in the UK.

Ospreay took to Twitter himself earlier today and hyped his role as part of the WoS roster, claiming that “With me on the show, ill happily put on my back and run with it. There is no one on that roster that is capable of doing the things I can do and every match I get better & better. Trust me, the team we have are gonna change the scene for the better.”

https://twitter.com/WillOspreay/status/1025636944729059328

Also confirmed for tonight’s episode is one of the most well respected legends in British wrestling history: Doug Williams.

The former TNA X-Division Champion will be making his way to ITV having missed the original World of Sport way back in the 80’s. Williams took to Twitter to speak on the historical significance of this; “started training in 1993 which means I missed appearing on Wrestling on ITV by 4 years. However, tomorrow, after a 25 year career I finally make my debut on ITV 1 when Wrestling is back on on a Saturday afternoon!”

NJPW King of Sport

A unique feature of the game is that players are awarded points for not just winning matches but also making them exciting. Players are awarded points for making comebacks, kicking out of near-falls, and other crowd-pleasing moves.

“Players can choose their favorite NJPW stars with their signature moves to compete for the championship!” A press release for the game reads. “Players can also create their own custom character, select special moves, and train them to become a champion. Online Battle mode allows you to play against others in real-time. Featuring both singles and tag team matches, King of Sports is full of excitement and real action that only New Japan Pro-Wrestling can deliver.”

Not only are all the top NJPW stars included in the game but there is an advanced character creator mode as well. As of this writing, I’ve currently created myself as a young lion in the junior heavyweight division and am learning new moves in the New Japan Dojo.

The loading screens also feature real pictures and descriptions of famous NJPW moments.

Drew McIntyre Says Complacent WWE Superstars Should Be Worried

4

Drew McIntyre says he “lost his fire” when he was released from his WWE contract in 2014. The Scottish SuperStar had been with the company since 2011. He’d even been touted as a future World Champion by Vince McMahon himself.

Initially, McIntyre found success in WWE. He won the Intercontinental Championship in 2009 and later won the tag titles along with Cody Rhodes. By 2012, however, things had changed drastically for him. He would be placed in a trio along with Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal known as 3MB.

He recently spoke to Sky Sports about how he sees others on the WWE roster who have lost their fire in a similar way to how he did a few years back.

Drew McIntyre on Complacent WWE Superstars

“When I was there (before), I kind of lost my fire and forgot why I was there, I forgot why I was in WWE and it’s embarrassing to think about that,” McIntyre said. “It was only when I left I realized what an opportunity I’d let slip away and I knew I’d never do that again.”

He then spoke about seeing the same attitude in some members of the current roster.

“I see a lot of the same looks in people’s faces and quite frankly it annoys me,” he continued. “I’ve been around the world and there are independent stars and NXT stars waiting to take their slots.”

McIntyre is currently aligned with Dolph Ziggler on the Raw brand.

“I’m back as the wake-up call to everybody to tell them they have to take their opportunity because there are people ready to take their spot.”

Luke Harper: I’m Just Trying To Not Get Released

13

Luke Harper was a guest recently on Edge and Christian’s podcast. Edge mentioned that Harper can play many different roles in WWE, including wrestling in main events. Harper mentioned he just tries to make whatever he is given the best it can be.

“I’ve tried to make it a thing where somebody in WWE wants me or needs me there,” Harper said. “If I do my job well then that becomes a thing and I just try to make it a reality, I guess. I’m just trying to not get released, you know?”

Luke Harper Compares Sanity to the Wyatt Family

Harper continued to talk about the Smackdown tag-team division. The Usos were mentioned specifically as a team who have tweaked their characters and taken their game to a new level.

Edge would later talk about how the Bludgeon Brothers are a tweaked version of the previous version of their team.

“Every team has its own thing going,” Harper said of the Smackdown tag division.  “Nobody’s much alike at all… except Sanity is kind of like the Wyatt Family but we’ll just keep that to ourselves.”

After making the joke, Harper would continue to say he has nothing against the faction. He mentioned he worked with Eric Young on the indies.

“I worked with Eric on the indies a couple times and had some of my best matches,” he said. “For him to come back around now in 2018, it’s exciting for me to think about that too.”

Roman Reigns Returns To Georgia Tech To Unveil New Team Jerseys

1

Roman Reigns returned to his college football roots yesterday. The former Yellow Jacket made a surprise appearance as his former school unveiled their new team jerseys.

Reigns was a starter for 3 seasons in Georgia Tech and named a Team Captain as a senior. He went undrafted but was later signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The team released him after a month.

Reigns would later sign with the Minnesota Vikings as well but failed to crack the roster. He had a short stint in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos. He played in five games with Edmonton before being released and retiring from football.

Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar – SummerSlam

While his Georgia Tech alma mater prepares for a new season, Reigns prepares to yet again challenge Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. It will be the 6th the two have faced each other but only the 3rd time they have met in single’s action.

Kurt Angle’s Recent Q&A

0

The current Raw GM took to Facebook to answer a few questions from the WWE Universe.

What Consequences Will Brock Lesnar Face For Hitting The F5 On You?

I’m a forgiving man, but I also pick my spots when I retaliate. I will eventually get him back. Or, I could just suspend him after he loses the title at SS. We will see. And he WILL lose the title. My money is on Roman.

Which Current WWE Superstar Would You Like Face From Your TNA Tenure?

Joe, Roode, or AJ. I’ve always felt that those 3 were the best of the best. I hope I get another crack at all of them!

Is There Another Run As Champion For The Olympic Gold Medalist?

I hope so. That’s up to the powers that be. I’m healthy right now. Ready to go if I get called on.

When Will Finn Balor Finally Get Some Gold Around His Waist?

Soon. I think the company wanted to see how durable he was. He’s ready now.

Angle’s Current Role

Kurt Angle’s current role in the WWE is the Raw General Manager. While this role has Angle on television every week, he has shown a desired to return back to the ring. While a full-time schedule is out of the question for Angle, he is willing to do sporadic matches here and there, but like always it is up to the WWE if they want to use him in any wrestling matter.
