WWE Advertising Daniel Bryan For Super Show-Down Event

1

WWE is advertising Daniel Bryan for a big show on an interesting date.

On Saturday morning (June 16, 2018), the sports entertainment company officially announced that they would be holding the Super Show-Down event on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Australia.

Although WWE has yet to confirm this, it will likely air on the streaming service, WWE Network.

Triple H vs. The Undertaker in their final match against each other as well as John Cena, Ronda Rousey, Shane McMahon, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Nia Jax, AJ Styles, Charlotte Flair, Bryan, The Miz, Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, Big Show, and Bray Wyatt are being advertised for this show.

It’s been well known that Bryan’s contract is slated to expire on September 1st, 2018.

During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer once again stated that Bryan has yet to sign a new contract with the WWE, which has been well established.

What’s interesting is that the sports entertainment company is advertising him for this upcoming event despite the fact that it’s taking place in October, a month after his WWE contract expires.

Keep in mind that the cards for WWE events are always subject to change.

Update on Chris Jericho’s NJPW Status

4

Former WWE Undisputed and 9-time Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho defeated ‘Los Ingobernables’ leader Tetsuya Naito at last weekend’s Dominion show to become the new IWGP Intercontinental Champion.

New Japan’s newest IC Champion has recently stated that he will not be taking part in some upcoming US events both for NJPW and Cody Rhodes/The Young Bucks. During an interview with Inside The Ropes he claimed that “I got asked to do Long Beach, I said no. I got asked to do Cow Palace, I said no. I got asked to do All In, I said no. I’m not going to work anywhere else unless you wanna pay six f******g figures. This is Mayweather-McGregor type s**t for me.”

Dave Meltzer also confirmed that Jericho will not be returning to New Japan for quite some time during a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio show, he stated that there would be (when asked about upcoming NJPW events) “No Jericho. In fact there’s no Jericho for a long, long time. It’s really interesting they put the IC title on him, because now that title’s gonna be iced for a long long time.

What do you think about Jericho only appearing sporadically for NJPW whilst IC Champion? Let us know in the comments.

Edge Explains On How Shawn Michaels Helped His Singles Career In WWE

2

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has given some credit to fellow WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels for helping him.

During a Q&A session on a recent episode of E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness, Edge looked back on how working with Michaels back in 2005 helped him in his transition from a tag team competitor into a singles star through their storyline.

If you recall, back in late 2004, Edge turned heel for the first time since 2001 when he helped Triple H retain the World Title over Michaels at the Taboo Tuesday PPV, which led to a program between Edge and Michaels that ended at the 2005 Royal Rumble.

“I think that was coming off of the Cyber Sunday or Taboo Tuesday, or whatever that pay per view was where fans voted on who would face Triple H in the world title match. I think that is where the whole angle started. That was when I was first starting to turn heel and was purely focused on that world title. Everything for the character, and Shawn Michaels was the first guy that I worked against with the incarnation of the character.

I think we worked a Royal Rumble opener and had a lot of fun and then we had a Street Fight on Raw–I want to say it was in Rhode Island,” Edge said. “I obviously always enjoyed working against Shawn. We had a lot of house show matches throughout the years that were kind of thrown together. I remember one in Laredo, Texas, which is a hot arena, about a 8-10,000 seat arena, and I remember we just went out there and put out 35 minutes and had a lot of fun by going out there and having Shawn Michaels and I just wing it. It was always a lot of fun.”

Edge went on to say that the rivalry with the WWE Hall of Famer was crucial to his development into a main event superstar.

“I don’t know how much creative was put together with our angle with the exception of me being an angry guy pursuing the title, who felt he should be world champion, and I think that Shawn was given the challenge from creative to get this kid over, because if it doesn’t happen with you then it’s probably not going to happen,” Edge said. “Now I know that it was the challenge that he was given if this could work or not, so I guess he helped me prove that I could so thank you Shawn Michaels!”

JR Praises NXT Takeover Match, Plus Keith Lee Reacts to Appearance

0

WWE Hall of Famer and one of the greatest play by play commentators in the history of the game has some high praise for the bout between Ricochet and Velveteen Dream from last night’s NXT Takeover: Chicago event.

Jim Ross took to Twitter to express his love for the match between the two NXT Superstars, stating that It’s any announcers dream to broadcast a match the level of @KingRicochet & @VelveteenWWE at #NXTChicago.” Good Ol’ JR went on to give extra special mention to the potential of the Velveteen Dream, claiming that “Considering his lack of experience, Dream can be truly spectacular for years to come.

Opinion: There are persistent rumors that Velveteen Dream is due for a call up to the main roster of WWE in the near future. Dream’s stellar bouts in his short time for NXT has gained him some proponents in the company’s top brass and his bout against Ricochet will do him no harm at all.

‘Limitless’ Keith Lee appeared during last night’s NXT Takeover: Chicago broadcast and was seen in the crowd during the event. The former EVOLVE/PROGRESS star took to Twitter to offer some comments following his appearance, you can check these out below:

Elgin’s run with the belt was the shortest in history. It lasted only 8 days and did not include a single successful title defense. Goto is now a 3x champion and has defended the title 6x in total.

Kizuna Road Developments

Jay White and Juice Robinson built up their upcoming title match on today’s show. White attacked Juice after their tag match and attempted to injure his rival’s arm with a chair. Juice fought back and punched the chair into White’s face to end the melee, however.

White also chose to enter the ring separately from his fellow CHAOS stablemates again.

Tetsuya Naito and Hiromu Takahashi had a weird exchange after their match. Takahashi set the Best of the Super Juniors trophy on the mat in front of Naito. Although Naito initially looked like he was going to bow to the trophy, he instead kicked it and broke off a piece. Takahashi was upset by this. He picked up the trophy and walked away from an apologetic Naito. Whenever he is around a title belt or trophy, Naito can’t help but want to destroy it it seems.

A brawl broke out and O’Reilly decked Burch with a knee to the face. Lorcan slapped O’Reilly in the face, but Strong and O’Reilly teamed up on him and knocked him to the canvas with a chop block/Clothesline for the pinfall victory. O’Reilly and Strong are still the NXT Tag Team Champions. After the match, Burch and Lorcan got a standing ovation even though the crowd didn’t want them to win the match at all.

Opinion: This match was so well done. I’ve always been a fan of tag team wrestling and this was a great example of how awesome it can be. There hasn’t been a tag match on the main roster as entertaining as this one in some time. If you looked away for a second during this match you missed something. There wasn’t a dull moment in the entire twenty-minute match and I would have had no problem if it went another twenty.

Opinion: This match was good but suffered from having to follow two incredible matches. I really liked the ending of the match because it fit Nikki Cross’ character perfectly. She is too insane/tough to tap out, so she decided to pass out with a smile on her face. I’m hoping Cross now joins SAnitY when they finally arrive on SmackDown.

Opinion: I thought this match was very good. Sullivan put up a great fight and the future is bright as hell for Lars. It would have been far too soon to take the title off of Aleister and I’m looking forward to what is next for Black.

Ciampa hit Gargano in the midsection with the chair and then placed Johnny’s head inside of hit. Tommaso hit a few punches and then launched Gargano neck-first with the chair wrapped around his head into the steel steps. Ciampa took a break to admire his destruction while laying on the ring apron. Ciampa then hit Gargano in the back with the trash can and then pressed his face on the steps. They battled back to their feet while still trading shots. Gargano hit a few in a row and then booted Ciampa in the back of the head. Johnny hit a Superkick and then swung a trash lid at Ciampa’s face. Gargano connected but Tommaso hit him with a crutch at the same time. Johnny fell on top of Ciampa for a cover but Tommaso was able to kick out at two.

Johnny tried to leap onto Ciampa outside the ring but Tommaso was ready and hit him in the face with a trash lid. Ciampa missed with a knee and slammed right into the steel steps. Tommaso got back into the ring and started to loosen up his knee brace. Gargano sensed an opportunity and started bashing Ciampa in the knee with a steel chair.

Ciampa launched Johnny into the trash can set up in between the ropes and then locked Johnny in the Gargano Escape in the middle of the ring. Johnny grabbed onto a crutch but Ciampa struck him in the back of the neck with a series of punches. Ciampa reattached his knee brace and got back up as Gargano supported himself on the crutch. Tommaso connected with a knee to the face and then grabbed the crutch.

Tommaso struck Gargano in the back of the head with the crutch and for the cover but Johnny kicked out at two. Gargano rolled out of the ring and Ciampa followed him. Johnny started crawling up the ramp as Ciampa sat and watched from the ring apron. Ciampa shook his head and then started limping towards him.

Ciampa brought up Gargano up the ramp and shouted that Gargano was his family and that he did this to himself. Ciampa threw Gargano into the screen at the top of the ramp and then hit another knee to the face. Tommaso shouted “it is not enough” at the referee who was asking him to stop.

Ciampa brought Gargano to the top of some electrical equipment as two tables were set up below it. Tommaso took off Gargano’s wedding ring and spit on it before launching it into the crowd. Gargano then planted Ciampa through the two tables below as the crowd chanted “holy sh*t!”. The chant transitioned into “mama mia!” as the medical staff came out to check on them both.

Gargano took a seat above Tommaso as Ciampa was placed in a neck brace and a stretcher was brought out.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1008174439190626305

Ciampa was loaded onto the stretcher as Gargano still watched on. Tommaso screamed in pain as he was strapped to the stretcher. The crowd chanted “jump!” as Gargano looked at the finger his wedding ring was on. They started to wheel Ciampa away but Gargano got pissed off and started chasing after him.

Johnny threw away the medical staff and started wheeling Ciampa on the stretcher back towards the ring. Gargano took off the straps and started punching Tommaso in the face. Gargano threw Ciampa into the ring while the neck brace was still on. Gargano took it off and locked in the Gargano Escape. Ciampa quickly tapped out as officials broke up the hold.

Gargano punched them both in the face and handcuffed Ciampa in the ring. Gargano hit him with six Superkicks to the face in a row. Johnny then locked in the Gargano Escape in the middle of the ring as Ciampa tapped out again. More officials rushed the ring and pulled Gargano off of Ciampa.

Johnny fought them all off and made his way back to the ring apron. Ciampa caught him in the ropes while handcuffed and delivered a DDT onto the exposed boards in the ring. Ciampa then covered Gargano for the pinfall victory as everyone was shocked.

Ciampa then had his handcuffed hands raised and smiled before limping up the ramp while leaning on the stretcher. Ciampa waved goodbye at the top of the ramp as the crowd chanted “fu** you Ciampa!” to close out the show.

Opinion: The storytelling in this match was phenomenal. Gargano became his own worst enemy and it cost him. He had the match won several times but his emotions got the better of him and couldn’t resist attacking Ciampa again. In the end, Tommaso got the last laugh tonight and won the match. This storyline isn’t over and I cannot wait to see what happens next. You know you are doing something right when a show ends with the crowd chanting “fu** you!” to the heel.

NXT has once again put on an unbelievable show before WWE has a PPV the following night. It is impossible to expect Money in the Bank to even come close to this event. NXT continues to nail every major event they put on, while WWE continues to fail to create an engaging storyline on the main roster. There may be some exciting moments tomorrow night but it won’t rival what we just saw at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. It was the payoff of great storytelling on NXT every week and the best part is that some of those stories will continue in the coming weeks.

Latest On Dean Ambrose’s Recovery From Injury

18

Former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose was at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL this past week rehabilitating his repaired triceps tear, according to PWInsider.

Ambrose has been out of action since late 2017 when he underwent surgery to repair a high-grade triceps tendon. The surgery took place in December, but the arm injury reportedly took place at the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs pay-per-view event back on October 22nd.

At TLC, Ambrose took a bump on a table that didn’t break. Following the match, his right arm immediately swelled up. While Ambrose didn’t take any time off and continued to work through the pain, things got worse over time.

WWE stated Ambrose would be out nine months at the time of his surgery been announced. Thus, that timeline would put his in-ring return around August or early September.

Fans Voice Displeasure With WWE Having No Women’s Matches At Live Event

16

Several fans took to social media to voice their displeasure with the WWE.

The reason for this is due to fans realizing that there was no women’s match at Friday’s (June 15, 2018) live event on Friday in Peoria, IL at the Peoria Civic Center. Braun Strowman was also advertised but did not appear.

There were a total of 8 matches on the card but the women’s division was not represented despite the sports entertainment company advertising Sasha Banks and Alexa Bliss.

It’s possible that WWE officials wanted the women competing in the upcoming Money in the Bank Ladder Match at Sunday’s pay-per-view event to practice the layout of the match as Lana has been training at the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida for weeks now learning how to take ladder bumps.

Here are the results from this event:

RAW Tag Team Champions Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt retained over The Revival

Zack Ryder, Chad Gable and Goldust defeated Mojo Rawley, Curt Hawkins and Mike Kanellis

WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins retained over Elias

The Authors of Pain defeated Rhyno and Heath Slater

Bobby Roode defeated Baron Corbin

Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler defeated Breezango

Roman Reigns, Bobby Lashley and Finn Balor defeated Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn and Jinder Mahal

Video: PROGRESS World Champion Speaks Ahead of WWE UK Tournament Quarter Finals

0

PROGRESS World Champion Travis Banks is one of the 8 men that will be heading to the Royal Albert Hall next Monday 18th hoping to advance to the finals of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament. The shows on Monday and Tuesday are being taped to appear on the WWE Network the following week.

Banks defeated UK veteran El Ligero to advance to a bout against Ashton Smith in the Quarter Finals and he has his sights set on challenging Pete Dunne on the second night of the Royal Albert Hall tapings for the UK Championship. You can hear Banks’ thoughts in the short video below.

Opinion: Banks originally won his PROGRESS World Title against Pete Dunne after an incredible match at Alexandra Palace in London, England. To see these two in the ring again would be a treat but it is highly likely that Zack Gibson or ‘Flash’ Morgan Webster are going to the final and taking home the trophy before meeting Dunne on day 2. With the way that the brackets have been laid out Banks would avoid both men until the final so there is a very good chance that he makes it all the way and gets beaten at the final hurdle.

PROGRESS Confirm Natural Progression Series Final

0

PROGRESS has officially announced that the finals of the fifth Natural Progression Series will be taking place at Chapter 72 ‘Got Got Need’ on June 24th from the Electric Ballroom in Camden, London.

Aussie Open tag team member Mark Davis will be facing Chris Ridgeway to determine the fifth winner of the now prestigious tournament. PROGRESS introduced the tournament back in 2013 with 205 Live Superstar Mark Andrews being the inaugural winner, he went on to cash in his opportunity at a PROGRESS title of his choosing against Rampage Brown and gained his first (and only) PROGRESS World Title.

Opinion: The general consensus within the PROGRESS faithful is that Chris Ridgeway will win the tournament, he is one of the best technically gifted and underrated talents on the UK scene right now and he is set to headline in a bout against KENOH for Frontline Wrestling’s debut show ‘Build Me an Empire.’ Mark Davis is also a star on the rise however with his match for the PROGRESS Tag Team titles set for Wembley Arena it is likely that he and Kyle Fletcher of Aussie Open get their first run with the belts started on that megashow.

Fight Club: Pro Announce Stacked 3 Day Residency Shows in London feat. WWE UK and NJPW Stars

0

Fight Club: Pro has announced a three day residency in London’s Bush Hall music venue that will be taking place on Tuesday 28th August to Thursday 30th.

The three days will see the company host 6 daytime training seminars with 3 stacked evening events taking place on all three nights. No official bouts have yet been announced for the evening events however the promotional material for ‘Project London’ show WWE UK signed Superstars Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, Trent Seven and Travis Banks as well as New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Will Ospreay and UK independent star Chris Brookes.

This follows the already stellar lineup for FCP’s upcoming International Tekkers show which will feature the following bouts:

In a FIRST TIME EVER match inaugural WWE United Kingdom Champion Tyler Bate will be facing former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay. It is incredible to think that these two standouts have never faced one on one in the squared circle but Fight Club: Pro is making it happen.

FCP has also announced that WWE UK roster member Jordan Devlin will be taking on Dragon Gate’s Naoki Tanizaki. The Dragon Gate veteran will be taking part in a run across the UK shore sagainst the likes of Mark Haskins (Frontline Puro) and Chris Brookes (RIPTIDE) and this bout against Devlin should be dynamite.

Kota Ibushi Talks Kenny Omega Title Win and is Confirmed for ‘All In’

1

New Japan Pro Wrestling saw one of the greatest main events in the history of the company last Saturday when Kenny Omega defeated Kazuchika Okada to become the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion. Omega’s longtime tag team partner Kota Ibushi was ringside for the bout and he recently gave his thoughts on the incredible ‘7 Star Bout.’

Ibushi stated that “the moment he won I was delighted. I wanted to congratulate him from the bottom of my heart but a few seconds later I was thinking ‘why aren’t I in this ring having wrestled tonight?’ I wasn’t booked. It felt weird. Honestly, I was thinking ‘what am I even doing here?’

The former Junior Heavyweight went on to “It’s easy to think he’s going to keep moving forward and we’re going to move apart. But tranquilo. Asssen na ya. People can think that but I just have to get results and that starts in the G1.”

Ibushi has also been confirmed for the upcoming ‘All In’ event which takes on September 1, 2018, at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. His opponent for the show has not yet been named.

1

Aleister Black has opened up on his journey to the WWE.

The WWE NXT Champion spoke with Iain Chambers about various topics while working NXT live events at the Download Festival in the UK last weekend. During this interview, he was asked if the sports entertainment company was his end game when he first started wrestling.

“No. When I started back in 2000 – which is now 18 years ago – WWE was the land of the giants and I am no shape or size, a giant. I’m 6-feet, 250 lbs. now, back in the day I was barely 140 lbs. and I wanted to do what was obtainable. Was I a fan of WWE?

Yeah, of course, but I knew it was not going to be a thing for me, until NXT came to the foreground and a lot of my friends who I was competing against on the independent scene were getting signed. And I was like, ‘Wait a minute? Something’s changed.’ The landscape of professional wrestling really changed when NXT was brought in.”

Blast is slated to make his next title defense at Saturday’s (June 16, 2018) WWE NXT TakeOver: Chicago II event in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena on the WWE Network against Lars Sullivan.

In this interview, he talked about the pressure of holding the NXT Championship.

“It’s definitely a lot of pressure because the people who have held this belt, you look at Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe and even traveling back to Seth Rollins and Big E, the heritage that this belt has is endless. And it’s heavy, so I have a big responsibility to do right by this belt and do right by NXT.”

Nikki Bella Talks Lack Of Respect During Divas Era In The WWE, Relationship With John Cena

8

Nikki Bella has reflected on how WWE has changed their ways when it comes to female performers.

Nikki alongside her sister, Brie, recent guests on Sophia Amoruso’s Girlboss Radio podcast to talk about various topics including the ongoing season of Total Bellas, their brand and more.

During this interview, Nikki spoke about a lack of respect for female Superstars during the Divas Era.

“Brie and I have been there for almost 12 years and the old perception of us women wrestlers; they called us Divas. They really wanted us to promote the sex appeal of it all. I totally feel like it opened doors for men and other people to treat us that way. That’s what has been so amazing about the women’s revolution at WWE. We’re finally demanding respect, showing the world we’re equal to the men. I’ve noticed in the past few years of them recognizing, dropping the name Diva and now we’re Superstars like the men. A lot of that has gone away. It rarely happens now.”

During this interview, Nikki also spoke about her struggles with becoming known as John Cena’s girlfriend.

The couple announced their separation earlier this year after dating since 2012 and being engaged for a year. Cena and Bella teamed up together for the first time back at WrestleMania 33 in 2017 where they defeated The Miz and Maryse.

After the match, Cena proposed to Bella. It’s been reported that they were scheduled to get married on May 5, 2018, before separating and are currently working things out.

Triple H & Undertaker’s Final Showdown

Already announced is the “last-ever” match between The Undertaker and Triple H, which would be their first match since 2012’s Wrestlemania 28 in Miami, Florida, where Undertaker defeated Triple H in a Hell In A Cell bout that was billed as the “End of an Era”, closing out their trilogy of Mania bouts.

This will be Undertaker’s fourth match of the year as he normally wrestles once a year. The first being Wrestlemania 34 against John Cena. His second match was at the Greatest Royal Rumble in a casket match against Rusev with Aiden English. His third wrestling appearance is set for Madison Square Garden. More on that here.

The MLW Fusion Report: June 15, 2018

0

The Midnight Express. The Rock and Roll Express. The Road Warriors. Deuce and Domino. At one time or another, these were tag team champions, and on this week’s episode of MLW Fusion, one duo will join the ranks of championship teams that tag each other in.

One of the teams competing for such a distinction is The Dirty Blondes, who open the show with the rest of Stud Stable. Colonel Rob Parker is having a strategy meeting for the Tag Team Championship match. There’s a picture behind him of a ring with north, south, east, and west marked on each side of it. I love the Stud Stable. Those were five words I never thought I would say back in 1995 watching WCW Saturday Night.

After the title sequence, Rich Bocchini and Tony Schiavone welcome us. They run down the night’s card and announce MLW Battle Riot, which will take place in New York City on July 19 (yours truly will be there).

They play a video from MLW.com of Heavyweight Champion Shane “Swerve” Strickland talking about how he’s not worried about the $20,000 bounty that Salina de la Renta has placed on his head. Out from behind him comes Brody King, who beats Swerve down in his attempt to earn the bounty.

After that, we go to Casey Lennox, who’s backstage with MVP. He says his opponent for the first match, Maxwell J. Friedman, is going to “reform school.” He moves on to Sami Callihan and states that whenever he and Callihan meet, it’s bloody and painful. I know where he’s coming from. It’s always painful when I have to see Sami Callihan on my TV.

MVP vs. Maxwell J. Friedman

Ring announcer Tim Barr informs us that Friedman has a “summer residence” in Southampton, NY, kind of like the Million Dollar Man back in his heyday. Unfortunately, the chyron lists Friedman as being from “South Hamptons.” Seriously, production team, double check that you spell the towns right.

Friedman cuts a promo where he runs down MVP. Apparently, one of MVP’s nicknames is the “Ronin” (which according to Wikipedia is a samurai without lord or master during the feudal period of Japan). Friedman calls MVP a “jabronin’ ronin.” Um…okay.

MVP comes out next. The match isn’t anything special. Towards the end, Friedman mocks the Ballin’ Elbow, but MVP gets his knees up and blocks the move. He throws Friedman with a release overhead belly to belly suplex followed by his own Ballin’ Elbow. He hits the Playmaker before Callihan and his army try to interfere. MVP takes each man out and then planchas to the outside on Callihan and Leon Scott. When he tries to get back in the ring, Friedman kicks the second rope into his balls, stacks him up (with feet on the ropes for leverage) and gets the 1-2-3.

Schiavone hypes Battle Riot and explains the rules. There are 40 men. A new man enters every minute. Eliminations occur by pinfall, submission, or by throwing an opponent over the top rope and to the floor. There are no disqualifications. Some of the men announced are Jake Hager, Barrington Hughes, Jimmy Yuta, and Pentagon, Jr. MLW has announced some other participants on Twitter, including John Morrison and the freakin’ “Taskmaster” Kevin Sullivan! I am very much looking forward to this.

Casey Lennox is backstage with Barrington Hughes. She asks for his thoughts on de la Renta’s bounty and Brody King’s attack on Swerve. Hughes asks Lennox how she’d feel if she saw one of her own friends going through what Swerve’s going through and proclaims that de la Renta is a terrible human.

TBD, another team in the Tag Team Championship match, cut a promo. Jimmy Yuta speaks but is interrupted by Jason Cade, who says he’s the captain of the team. Furthermore, he’s going to lead them to victory because they’re the best duo.

Simon Gotch Prize Fight Challenge

Team Filthy come out in their usual conga line, which I find pretty funny. Gotch lays down the challenge for someone to get his “filthy money.” He says “filthy money” like an evil villain, which makes sense because he was a Vaudevillain.

This week, Mike Parrow of Stud Stable answers Gotch’s $250 challenge. Parrow dominates in the beginning, shoulder tackling Gotch to the outside. After some scuffling on the floor, the match heads back into the ring. Parrow goes for a chokeslam but Gotch reverses it into a leg submission. Parrow makes it to the ropes, but while he tries to pull himself up to his feet, Tom Lawlor hits Parrow with a foreign object (Gotch was distracting the ref). Gotch gets the pin and keeps his $250. The Dirty Blondes come out and chase Team Filthy off.

Brody King cuts a promo where he tells Swerve that he left him laid out in the parking lot and challenges him to a match next week.

They show the footage of King’s attack again while Schiavone interviews MLW CEO Court Bauer, who is calling from Swerve’s home. He doesn’t want to sanction a match between King and Swerve, but Swerve wants the match, so he’s going to give it to him.

Anything Goes Elimination Match for the MLW Tag Team Championship: The Dirty Blondes (Michael Patrick and Leo Brien) vs. Team TBD (Jimmy Yuta and Jason Cade) vs. Lucha Brothers (Pentagon, Jr. and Rey Fenix)

All three teams enter the ring before the classic ring introductions. I like when wrestling promotions do this. It makes the match feel bigger.

It’s clear by the response that each team gets from the crowd that Lucha Brothers are the favorites, and who could blame them? These guys are awesome.

Everybody is fighting at the same time. THANK YOU. If this were WWE, we might be subject to people having to tag in and out- in an anything goes match. Or we might have two guys in the ring at a time and have the possibility of two partners having to face each other. In a match like this, having all the guys fight at one time makes the most sense and makes for a better match anyway.

The match started with Yuta getting superkicked by Fenix while Yuta was distracted by Pentagon’s “Cero Miedo” taunt. From there, the action never lets up. There’s all sorts of dives in the beginning, even a senton off the apron by Michael Patrick.

The Blondes are the first team eliminated after a flying elbow drop from Yuta and a top rope splash by Cade.

The match kicks in to an even higher gear. At one point, Team TBD are both trapped in the corner (Cade on his butt, Yuta in the tree of woe) and Fenix monkey flips Pentagon into both of them.

TBD comes back and looks like they are on the verge of victory when Yuta German suplexes Fenix. However, Cade is showboating and not paying attention to Pentagon, who breaks up the pin.

Fenix makes a big save late in the match as Yuta hits a Samoan driver on Pentagon and goes for the pin, only two be broken up by a springboard dropkick that earns a “this is awesome” chant.

Cade and Pentagon fight in the center of the ring. Cade goes for a handspring codebreaker but Pentagon dropkicks him mid-spring. What a spot!

A funny verbal botch takes place when Cade has Pentagon in a fireman’s carry and yells “Cero Mero, huh?” Good for Marc Mero. Finally, he’s getting some respect.

Cade finally gets the handspring codebreaker on Pentagon and then sends him to the outside, where he executes a suicide dive.

The Brothers get the upper hand and go for a superkick/Fear Factor combination, which I thought was the end but only garners a two count.

Cade and Yuta come back. They try to finish the match with the flying elbow/splash combination on Fenix, but he kicks out. Then, the seeds of dissension in TBD are sown even further. Yuta holds Fenix in a full nelson. Cade goes to hit Fenix, but Fenix escapes Yuta’s clutches and Cade ends up hitting his partner, calling him “stupid” after the mishap.

The Brothers take advantage and send Cade to the outside. Yuta is impaled on the mat by a double stomp spike Pentagon Driver. Pentagon gets the three count, and Lucha Brothers are the first MLW Tag Team Champions.

The celebration begins as the Brothers’ manager, Salina de la Renta, brings in a bottle of Patrón for each man. They start pouring it into their mouths before Pentagon graciously gives fans in the front row a sip. I love this team and everything about them.

The match between Strickland and King is announced for next week and we’re done.

Final Thoughts:

  • I still can’t believe I thought MVP was going to be a world champion ten years ago. What a shame. I wonder why he fell out of favor with WWE. Regardless, I’m still glad to see him doing his thing.
  • I was shocked by how easily Parrow was beaten by Gotch. I mean, it did take interference to do it, but I just thought Parrow was going to dominate and collect the $250. I wonder where this is all leading to. Havoc and Lawlor are in the middle of a feud right now. Are we also going to start seeing faction warfare between Team Filthy and Stud Stable?
  • For a guy who calls himself the Caramel Colossus, Hughes talks like a normal guy. I thought he would be some kind of character like Mark Henry back in the “Sexual Chocolate” days. Right now, I don’t see him anything more than Swerve’s obese friend.
  • What can I say about the tag match? You just have to watch it. Nothing I write can do it justice. I remember thinking a while back that The Blondes would be the first champs, but once Lucha Brothers were announced, I should have just gone with my gut. Fenix and Pentagon are the two best wrestlers in MLW right now.
  • Rich Bocchini was really good on commentary during the main event. He sounded invested in who would become the first champs and brought even more drama to the match.

That’s it for this week. Follow me on Twitter (@CliffofDoom). I have to go mow my lawn now. Have a good one!
