Looking At 5 Unlikely Winners For The Men’s Royal Rumble On Sunday

22

We all have a fair idea of who is likely to win the 2018 Royal Rumble.  Names like Shinsuke Nakamura, Roman Reigns and John Cena seem to dominate the top 3 spots on most lists, while Randy Orton, Finn Balor, Seth Rollins, and Kevin Owens float underneath.

However let’s take a moment to explore the unlikely winners, the superstars who could have genuine claims to the grand prize at WrestleMania 34, but probably (definitely) won’t win.

Rusev

rusev

Why?

If anyone is deserving of winning the Royal Rumble based on recent form and popularity among fans, this man is surely one of the main contenders.  His “Rusev Day” T-shirt sales have topped the merchandise lists, and he appears to have made something out of nothing since joining SmackDown Live.

He is a strong fan favourite, but there’s concern over another feud with Roman Reigns in the future, which might become old very quickly if we remember their battle over the US Title.

Why not?

Rusev VS WWE Champion (currently AJ Styles) – it just doesn’t scream WrestleMania…

He’s not on WWE’s radar as a singles division champion either.  However, he is doing good work with Aiden English on the tag-team scene which will hopefully result in a number 1 contender position and, eventually, the titles.

Probability Score: 2/10

Kurt Angle

kurt angle

Why?

Kurt Angle can do no wrong.  OK, well sometimes he does mess up… like talking over The Shield entrance music… But the Hall of Fame GM of RAW is celebrated by WWE and represents stability and authority on a weekly basis.  He steps up when he needs to and seems to give everything 100%.

Why not?

Kurt Angle VS Universal Champion (currently Brock Lesnar) – Angle and Lesnar has already been done, and no one needs a rematch.  As for Strowman or Kane, it just doesn’t seem right.  However, I wouldn’t say no to Kurt Angle vs AJ Styles if that were to be arranged.

The main point though, and I hate to say it, is that he’s past his prime, and WWE need to focus on young talent.  While Kurt Angle has already been used to boost Jason Jordan, he should continue take a supportive role, not one of the main spots at WrestleMania.  WWE’s age problem has already been highlighted, and as much as I enjoy the Olympic gold medalist – it would feel like a backwards step to have Kurt Angle anywhere near a title opportunity.

Probability Score: 3/10

Broken Matt Hardy

broken matt hardy raw 12 11

Why?

Broken Matt Hardy represents a supernatural force, and has the simplest of all reasons to win the Royal Rumble: DELETE.

While it’s very simple, the story-line is effective and works well with Hardy’s fresh gimmick that no one has ever done in the same way he has in WWE.  The Obsolete Champion becomes the Woken Champion, seriously, this stuff writes itself.  Now that Matt Hardy owns the intellectual rights to everything “Broken” WWE should let him run wild and free with it.

Why not?

Matt Hardy VS Universal Champion (currently Brock Lesnar) – Matt Hardy just lost to Bray Wyatt at RAW 25… I don’t see him defeating Brock Lesnar or Braun Strowman (sorry Kane).

But before considering a match up a champion, Hardy is still tied up in a feud with Bray Wyatt, and unless they are going to bring The Eater of Worlds into a title feud as well (look how that turned out last time, thank you Randy Orton), this will be a no go.

Probability Score: 1/10

Jeff Hardy

jeff hardy

Why?

Jeff Hardy VS Universal Champion (currently Brock Lesnar) – I feel as though Jeff Hardy could make a big match like this work.  I’m not immediately excited by it, but I think the idea and prospect of the match would build into something more exciting than Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar.

Although Jeff Hardy is out injured at the moment, WWE may want to utilize his abilities in the singles division sooner rather than later.  Starting a story-line early before fully returning to official in-ring action may be the best way to do this. With the hard work out of the way, Jeff Hardy can sit back and relax until WrestleMania, shooting promos and getting underneath the skin of the Champion.

What also works about this is Jeff’s ability to move quickly, think on his feet, and cause a surprise without anyone seeing it coming in the rumble match.

Why not?

The question for WWE is, will Jeff Hardy return as he is, or will he come back as Brother Nero?  Jeff will add significant value as Brother Nero with Matt Hardy, but they can’t stay in the tag team division forever.  So who takes the lead roll?  There are a lot of questions that require answers before secure development can take place.

Probability Score: 1.5/10

Daniel Bryan

daniel bryan
Daniel Bryan (Photo Credit: WWE.com)

Why?

Daniel Bryan VS WWE Champion (currently AJ Styles) – Yes. Please.

The rumours are flying, left, right, centre, off centre, diagonal, EVERYWHERE.

Who would say no to Daniel Bryan having one more Royal Rumble appearance, with one more WrestleMania moment?… apart from WWE medical staff…

But on a serious note, it almost feels as though Daniel Bryan has unfinished business in the ring.  So much potential waiting to be unleashed.  I know he doesn’t help the “WWE Age Problem” that was mentioned with Kurt Angle previously, but I’m willing ignore that if we get AJ Styles vs Daniel Bryan in WWE.

Why not?

As stated above, WWE medical staff may have something to say about this one.  The main theory that is being concocted on forums is the idea that Bryan’s health concerns are all part of kayfabe.  The concept is pretty outrageous and I think it’s more likely that Daniel Bryan’s in-ring career will start back up outside WWE when his contract is over.

Jim Ross On XFL Reboot, Stephanie Calling Women’s Rumble, Roman Reigns

4

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was on Busted Open Radio on Thursday to discuss the news of Vince McMahon re-laumnching the XFL, how he would run the league, Stephanie McMahon commentating the women’s Royal Rumble match & whether Vince would book Reigns to win it again in Philly. Here are some highlights sent in by the show’s producer:

If he ran the XFL, what would he change about the product vs the 2001 product:

“You’ve got to be very selective of your cities and how those cities and franchises are going to be managed and promoted. You need to sell tickets, and generally local promoters have a better handle on getting tickets sold vs outsiders, so local promotion is important.

Stadium selection is important. The LA Chargers are playing in a soccer stadium and no one seems to care. It will hold the costs down in that regards.

There was no kickoffs. I like punts and kickoffs because there’s a chance for a big play.

Another issue is where do you get good officials from? The NFL sure as hell doesn’t have a monopoly on them, because you see what they’re using.”

How important is talent for the new XFL:

“It would be a good move (referencing signing RG3, Tim Tebow, Tony Romo) if you’re creating a football league from scratch. We had Tommy Maddox. He was a UCLA QB, got drafted and cut from the NFL, got picked up for the XFL and was resigned to the Steelers. I think those are the kind of stories he would be looking for.

For me, any player that plays in the XFL would want to eventually end up in the NFL. To me, that’s a great selling point. The NFL won’t admit it because they will say ‘we get our players from college football’. The XFL doesn’t have to follow those rules.”

What went wrong with the XFL the first go-round:

“The teams didn’t have enough time to practice, gel and develop chemistry. They had very little time to practice. There was very little quality football. This will be interesting to see, to see who Vince brings together. This, I’ll bet, will be a who’s who in Vince’s inner circle.”

Why he believes Vince bringing back the XFL:

“He loves taking calculated risks. I had the first meeting with him after the first XFL went down, and I think we lost 50 million or something like that. We had a regular meeting and we talked about the XFL for a minute or two. He said ‘JR I took a calculated risk and it didn’t go down. I still believe in the concept.’

I don’t have an issue with the concept. I don’t know if he’s bored or he just loves the challenge. I know that was a challenge that went unfulfilled, didn’t succeed at it, and maybe there’s something to be said about his competitive nature. I can tell you that he sees something that is different than the last go-round. It should be exciting as it progresses.”

Stephanie McMahon announcing the women’s Royal Rumble match:

“To me, it’s a booking. It’s a casting. I see it as a special guest appearance. Simple as that. In my days I’ve worked with many people, some good and some bad, but we’ve always seemed to have worked through it. She will be produced just like anyone else out there, having someone in her ear. Let’s see how it plays out.”

If Vince would book Roman Reigns to win the Royal Rumble in Philly again:

“Hell yeah he would. If he thought it was the right thing for business. I don’t have an issue with marking a talent and going all the way with them. Promoters these days love 50/50 booking. He has a star appeal. I’ve always loved this kid. I worked with him in Florida Championship Wrestling when he was a large nose tackle and needed to work on his body to get to where he is today. If it’s the right thing for business, Vince will book him.

We can’t deny the fact that Reigns gets reactions. There’s a lot of guys in wrestling that don’t get the reactions we’d like them to get. They’re not over. Reigns is over. Maybe as a heel or a controversial figure, but they damn sure like to boo him, and as long as there’s an ass every 18 inches in the seats, I don’t care.”

Jerry Lawler On Him & JR “Sleeping” At RAW 25, Triple H Saving Manhattan Center Show

11

On the latest episode of his Dinner With The King podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler discussed last week’s big RAW 25th Anniversary special, Royal Rumble memories and much more. Here are some highlights of what Lawler said about:

The photo showing him and Jim Ross “Sleeping” during RAW 25:

“Our monitors were small and they were down at the lower part of the desk. This picture was taken during a commercial break. The headsets were a little different. I don’t know what the deal was with the chairs, but they were not comfortable, they were not the chairs that were ordinarily used. So during the show, while we were doing the commentary, in order to see the monitor right, I would have to sit up straight and almost lean forward to be able to watch the monitor.

So then, when a commercial break came, I would take that opportunity to kind of sit back and really, just sort of stretch my back. JR was texting. I don’t know how he does it. JR multitasks. He’ll be texting while he’s doing the broadcast, so that’s what he was doing. Throughout the entire show, he did a lot of texting or maybe tweeting. I did a little bit myself.

But anyway, somebody catches that one particular shot and then they put it out on the internet and man, it was all over the place… I know JR was really sensitive to it. It upset JR because that just wasn’t the case. I mean, good gosh, nobody went to sleep during the broadcast of the 25th anniversary of Monday Night Raw.”

Lawler added that there was actually a lot of pressure for him and Jim Ross to perform ‘like old times’ and he felt a lot of pressure before and during the show. He felt it was very difficult to put on a good performance with minimal preparation time.

Overall, he thinks they did well but could have done a lot better if they had more time to practice and get back in their old groove.

Triple H Making Changes To The Manhattan Center Show On The Fly Due To The Upset Crowd:

“I think at first, some fans realized ‘We’re not going to get to see in person a lot of these people that had been advertised,’ when someone is at the Barclays Center and they started showing all these different guys. They started to complain and feel uncomfortable and everything.

I’m not sure, but I think Triple H is the guy who made a call over there and said ‘Hey, we’ve got to give these people more over here.’ So what they started doing, they started sending some of the superstars that were primarily, originally just booked to be at the Barclays Center, they started sending them, putting them in a car service or limos and sending them over to the Manhattan Center. So by the end of the night, the people at the Manhattan Center got to see a ton of the superstars.”

WWE Releases First “Woken” Matt Hardy Merchandise

5

Matt Hardy’s 1st set of merchandise under his “Woken” gimmick is now available at WWEShop.com.

Hardy himself announced the news earlier this morning:

“Woken” Matt Hardy in WWE

Some have complained that the WWE-version of Matt’s character doesn’t have the same feel as when he was in TNA. In response, Matt urged his followers to be patient and stressed that a “Final Deletion” type mini-film is in the works for the character.

“I think the hardcore fans have to remember that patience is paramount. There’s such a huge percentage of the WWE Universe and the WWE fanbase who aren’t familiar with the story of the Woken/Broken character so we have to educate them and get them up to speed and help them understand what’s going on. And that’s something the die hard fans are frustrated with,” he said.

“Things are going to get where they need to be and this is a process now that’s playing out over TV. The biggest thing I’d say to people is just sit back and enjoy this truly fun and jubilant ride.”

When asked about a Final Deletion style movie being presented on WWE programming, Hardy didn’t mince words: “One hundred percent. Absolutely.”

Chris Jericho Comments on Role at Raw 25

3

Some Chris Jericho fans expressed disappointment the 47-year-old wasn’t used in a more prominent role at Raw’s 25th Anniversary show.

Jericho has had a monumental month of January, after all. At Wrestle Kingdom 12, he wrestled a 40-minute match against Kenny Omega. The next night he would attack Tetsuya Naito at New Year’s Dash.

Despite the international spotlight Jericho has been under as of late, he was not disappointed by his Raw 25 role. A fan asked him as such on Twitter, and Jericho responded:

Is Chris Jericho in NJPW? WWE?

According to Jericho, he received Vince McMahon’s blessing to work against Omega in NJPW. What is not clear, however, is if Vince has given Jericho permission to continue working with the promotion.

NJPW returns to the United States in Long Beach on March 25th for “Strong Style Evolved”. If Jericho and Naito are to wrestle each other, this event seems like an ideal date and location.

Vince McMahon Comments on XFL Rules, Politics in Sport, more…

18

Vince McMahon’s XFL re-launch announcement has been met with more questions than answers. Many in the media are wondering why the much-maligned league would make a comeback.

Vince took the time to answer questions on several topics to media members following the announcement.

XFL Questions and Answers

One of the bigger questions football fans have is whether or not the XFL will allow protests or kneeling during the anthem.

Vince has said social and political causes have no place in his football league. “People don’t want social and political issues coming into play when they are trying to be entertained,” McMahon told ESPN. “We want someone who wants to take a knee to do their version of that on their personal time.”

Vince was also asked if he felt President Donald Trump would support his vision of football. Vince’s wife Linda serves in President Trump’s administration. “I have no idea whether or not President Trump will support this,” McMahon said.

“Let me say as far as our league is concerned it will have nothing to do with politics, and nothing to do with social issues either. We’re there to play football. We want really good football, and that’s what the fans want too.

“When they tune in I don’t know if they want to be dealing with social issues and things of that nature. And that’s what we’re going to deliver.”

Asked about the unique set of rules the league is promising, Vince stated that there will be a firm set of instructions for all players.

“There will be a booklet to make sure that all the players understand the rules.” McMahon said.

“We intend for everyone to abide by those rules. As far as the national anthem is concerned, I think this: the national anthem is a time-honored tradition that is played to this day and many years in the past in our country; whatever our rules are what our players will abide by.”

Asked about allowing players with criminal records into the league, Vince said “The quality of the human being is important,”

“You want someone that has does not have any criminality whatsoever associated with them. In the XFL, If you have a DUI (driving under the influence) you will not play in the XFL.”

XFL Reactions from Wrestlers, Players, and Media

22

After Vince McMahon’s announcement of the XFL’s return in 2020, there is no shortage of football players and wrestlers lining up to get a spot in the league.

Reactions to XFL Announcement

Johnny “Football” Manziel might be looking at the XFL as a place where he can make a comeback. He released the following on Instagram after Vince’s announcement yesterday:

“Woken” Matt Hardy put his own spin on yesterday’s announcement:

NXT Star Returns To Action At Live Event In Albany, New York

11

Following a two month absence from the squared circle, Kairi Sane returned to action at tonight’s NXT live event in Albany, New York.

Taking on Lacey Evans in singles competition, the inaugural winner of the Mae Young Classic beat “The Lady of NXT” after nailing her with the Insane Elbow.

https://twitter.com/jkulchinsky/status/956692810568208391

Sane had not wrestled since Nov. 18, 2017, at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in a Fatal 4-Way Match against Nikki Cross, Peyton Royce, and Ember Moon to see who would claim the vacant NXT Women’s Championship. Moon won the title after pinning Cross.

Information on Sane’s hiatus has been kept under wraps, although Wrestling Observer Newsletter editor Dave Meltzer said earlier this month that she was “banged up.”

Sane last appeared on NXT television on Dec. 27, 2017. After Moon successfully retained the NXT Women’s Championship against Sonya Deville, Sane appeared on the stage and gestured that she has the NXT Women’s Title in her sights. “The Pirate Princess” was suddenly ambushed from behind by the person she beat to win the inaugural Mae Young Classic, Shayna Baszler. “The Queen of Spades” used a sleeper hold to render Sane unconscious before staring Moon down.

Rich Swann Update: All Charges Dropped

26

All charges against former WWE cruiserweight champion, Rich Swann, in regards to a December 10th incident have been dropped.

He had been charged with misdemeanor battery and false imprisonment/kidnapping stemming from an altercation with his girlfriend, Vannarah Riggs, who wrestles under the name Su Young.

According to a report from PW Insider, charges against Swann have been dropped due to insufficient evidence.

Will Rich Swann’s Suspension Be Lifted?

Triple H and Stephanie told reporters earlier that due to the company’s zero-tolerance policy on domestic violence he would be released if convicted.

“We are just waiting on legal.” Triple H said. “We have a zero-tolerance policy on that, as you’ve seen, so he’s suspended until it is determined legally one way or the other.”

It remains to be seen how WWE chooses to proceed with Swann now that charges have been dropped.

WWE did reinstate Jerry Lawler in 2016 after domestic violence charges were dropped against him.

New XFL Kicks Off In 2020: Press Release & Trailer

New XFL Kicks Off In 2020 (Official Announcement)

STAMFORD, CONN. – Professional football will be reimagined when the new XFL kicks off in early 2020, Vince McMahon announced in a live stream event today.

The XFL will deliver a fan-centric, innovative experience, including shorter, fast-paced games and a family-friendly environment, complemented by cross-platform viewing options and real-time fan engagement.

Plans for the XFL at launch include eight teams, 40-man active rosters and a 10-week regular-season schedule, with a postseason consisting of two semifinal playoff games and a championship game.

“The new XFL is an exciting opportunity to reimagine America’s favorite sport,” said McMahon. “As we move towards kickoff, we look forward to listening and implementing innovative ideas from players, coaches, medical experts, technology executives, the media and most importantly football fans.”

McMahon, a visionary and an accomplished business executive, is personally funding this venture through Alpha Entertainment, a new private entity. McMahon will continue as WWE Chairman & CEO.

WrestleMania Plans For The Intercontinental Championship

29

RAW’s 25th Anniversary special saw The Miz defeat Roman Reigns to capture the Intercontinental Championship for the 8th time.

This week, WWE’s focus is on Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. After that, it’s full speed ahead on the road to WrestleMania – and it appears WWE has locked in another top match for show. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“At this point it appears nothing at the top has changed for WrestleMania. As of right now the plan is for The Miz to defend the IC title against Braun Strowman, which is why Miz’s win was as clean as it was, since the IC title will be one of the biggest matches at Mania.”

Reddit user crapusername47 has a pretty brilliant theory about how a hypothetical Mixed Match Challenge match could kick off the Miz vs. Strowman feud.

“Miz and Asuka beat Alexa and Braun but Miz refuses to tag in or immediately tags out whenever he’s supposed to face Strowman. Miz never actually touches Strowman or gets any offence in and Asuka carries the match. Asuka pins Bliss, furthering their own feud and then Miz can gloat about having beaten Braun Strowman.”

WrestleMania 34 takes place on Sunday, April 8th from New Orleans, Louisiana at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Ronda Rousey Says She Won’t Be At The Royal Rumble

14

Reporters recently caught up with Ronda Rousey at an airport as she was in commute to film a movie. When asked, Rousey denied rumors she will be in the Royal Rumble on Sunday.

In fact, Rousey mentioned she will be filming a movie in Columbia until mid-February.

Whether Ronda is just trying to pull one over on wrestling fans or not is currently unknown.

Rousey also commented on recent statements directed towards her by Alexa Bliss. The current Raw women’s champion had said she is not worried about Rousey coming to take her title.

Ronda Rousey to WWE

Rousey and Triple H were spotted having dinner together recently which fuelled speculation the former UFC bantamweight champion could end up in WWE sooner rather than later. Both Triple H and Rousey have denied an agreement has been struck between the two sides, however.

Alpha Entertainment Leaks New XFL Logo

19

This appears to be confirmation that Vince McMahon’s “major sports announcement” scheduled for 3pm (Eastern) later today is indeed the return of the XFL football league.

The Alpha Entertainment press conference will stream across the company’s new digital platforms, including their official YouTube channel.

The company has already posted a “Live Video” as a placeholder for the press conference. During the live feed, viewers got a glimpse of what’s to come later today.

As seen above – the XFL is back. The league is expected to return in 2020.

Vince McMahon To Make Major Sports Announcement Later Today

10

Buckle up. Through his new venture Alpha Entertainment, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon will be holding a press conference later today at 3pm (Eastern) to make a “major sports announcement.”

The press conference will stream live from Alpha Entertainment’s digital platforms on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and at the Alpha Entertainment website. And below!

Alpha Entertainment describes itself as, “a new enterprise founded by Vince McMahon to explore investment opportunities across the sports and entertainment arena.”

Last month, WWE filed paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission stating that Vince McMahon was selling over $100 million in WWE stock to fund his new Alpha Entertainment venture.

The Rock Owns Moviegoer Who Takes Issue With Jumanji Plot Point

16

Here’s a lesson – if you’re addressing The Rock, drop the attitude. If you talk trash to The Rock, prepare to get owned.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is The Rock’s latest runaway hit. It’s been the #1 box office draw since it premiered 5 weeks ago and has already grossed over $315 million worldwide. Minor spoilers ahead, per the official synopsis from Sony:

“In a brand new Jumanji adventure, four high school kids discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the adult avatars they chose. What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it.

To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever, to be played by others without break.”

I saw Jumanji and really enjoyed it. Critics and moviegoers agree, with Rotten Tomatoes scoring it 76% and 90%, respectively. In the movie, the characters inside the video game are given 3 “lives” and must complete the mission or risk being trapped in the game forever. When your character loses a life, you re-spawn in the same place.

One moviegoer took issue with an aspect of the re-spawning and got a response from The Rock himself within minutes:

Twitter had a field day with Rock’s savage burn, unleashing a barrage of WWE-inspired Rock GIF’s.

@JamesJamMcMahon took it well and seemed honored to have the smack laid down upon him by the People’s Champ and undisputed king of the box office.

Report: Vince McMahon Launching Football League In 2020

19

Vince McMahon recently created in a new company called “Alpha Entertainment” with many believing this company will eventually promote a professional football league. While there are still questions regarding the actual name of the league, it does appear Vince McMahon’s new venture is planning on launching a football league by 2020.

A new report from PWInsider is stating that WWE production staff have been working on promotional videos for the league in preparation for a 2020 start date.

XFL Re-Launch

Earlier this year, ESPN ran a “30 for 30” documentary on the history of the XFL. The success of the documentary spurned rumors Vince might be willing to give the league another shot.

One of the admissions made during the filming of the documentary was that they rushed the league onto the field and as a result, the quality of football suffered. A 2020 start date gives Vince and the league more time to prepare.

Nia Jax is Moving on From Enzo

28

Before Enzo Amore was released earlier this week, he had been involved in a program with Nia Jax. Enzo and Nia were becoming something of an odd-couple love story on 205 Live and Raw. The storyline was a focal point of the 205 Live house shows which took place this weekend.

The events of this week involving Enzo Amore seemingly put Nia’s new storyline in jeopardy. It appears now, however, Nia has developed eyes for another member of the cruiserweight division.

205 Live Changes

With Enzo Amore’s departure, other changes are coming to 205 Live. On the most recent episode, Daniel Bryan announced plans for a GM to be assigned to the brand. A report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has since reported the idea has been tossed around before, with Summer Rae being someone the company had once thought of for the role.

This past week on 205 Live, a match between Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali is getting solid reviews.

Backstage News On Why WWE Released Enzo Amore

36

The story of Enzo Amore being accused of rape became viral on Monday and WWE had terminated the contract of the former Cruiserweight Champion by Tuesday. A lot of people were surprised by the quickness of these events and many fans wondered if the company had some information on the incident which wasn’t made public.

However, if reports from PWinsider are to be believed, this wasn’t the case and Enzo was let go by the company because Officials were furious with him. According to the site, WWE was unaware of these accusations until Monday and they got to know about it when media members reached to them for comments on the story.

Upon learning it, Officials confronted Enzo backstage about the allegations. The Cruiserweight Star denied the accusations were true but admitted that he was aware of the investigation by Phoenix Police. For those who don’t know, Phoenix Police had launched an investigation back in October against Amore after meeting the alleged victim at a local hospital.

The company then sent out a press release suspending the 205 Live Star and sent him away from Barclays Center over the fact that he failed to notify them about the investigation earlier. Regarding his firing, it’s being said that it didn’t happen because of the belief of him being guilty.

Instead, Officials released Amore because they were angry with him as the whole incident put them in a bad spot. They had to respond to media queries over rape accusations on a current Champion and it all happened during one of the company’s biggest TV days.

Enzo Amore already had heat due to several incidents over the past year and this incident was described as the ‘last straw’. After this, there were too many problems with the former WWE Star in the past year hence the decision was made to let him go.

Phoenix Police is still investigating the matter but as of this writing, there are no changes in the case. The accuser Philomena Sheahan recently spoke to TMZ and gave some details on the alleged incident. Meanwhile, Enzo has released a statement denying all the accusations.

WWE Network Classic Content For February Revealed

5

According to both WWENetworkNews.com and PWInsider.com, the next series of classic content to be added to the WWE Network in February will come from the Coliseum Video collection.

According to PWInsider, 38 videos will be uploaded to the WWE Network during the first week of February.

Before WWE formed WWF Home Video in 1997 (now known as WWE Home Video), an independent company known as Coliseum Video handled their video distribution. From 1985 through 1997, Coliseum Video released VHS and Betamax cassettes featuring World Wrestling Federation action in the following categories:

* A series of “Best of” cassettes featuring classic matches, both recent at the time and from as far back as the 1960s. Many of these releases included title changes that occurred since completion of the previous volume.

– Profiles of wrestlers highlighting their best matches and moments in the World Wrestling Federation. Some of the wrestlers profiled include Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake, Demolition, George “The Animal” Steele, and Ken Patera.

– Compilations featuring rarely seen or exclusive matches that took place at television tapings and televised house shows.

– Pay-per-view events (many of which are available for viewing on the WWE Network).

This content dump has been planned for a while, although there was talk of adding episodes of WCW Thunder (WCW’s B-show that aired from 1998 through 2001 on TBS) in February since Buff Bagwell and Raven’s lawsuit over WWE Network royalties got dismissed last month. The lawsuit led to WWE delaying Thunder and WWE Sunday Night Heat uploads to the Network, but the door is now open for episodes from both series to be added.

PWInsider also reports that the frontrunner of classic content for March are old episodes of All-Star Wrestling, which aired on syndication from 1971 through 1986. This program consisted of top-tier or mid-card WWF wrestlers squashing enhancement talent, as well as a “feature” match between main WWF wrestlers.

Moon said she was the big fish for a reason and that being NXT Women’s Champion means that you have responsibilities not only to yourself, but to your division. Baszler said that she worked just as hard as Moon to get here.

#1 Contender’s Match: Johnny Gargano vs. Velveteen Dream

Velveteen Dream came down to the ring in a Johnny Gargano half-shirt. Gargano smirked in the corner as Dream posed in the ring. Dueling “Johnny Wrestling!” and “Velveteen!” chants echoed throughout the arena as the bell rang.

The two Superstars locked up in the middle of the ring. Dream applied a Wrist Lock but Gargano escaped and applied a Headlock. Dream squirmed around the ring but couldn’t break free as the dueling chants continued.

Dream broke free and threw Gargano to the mat. Dream posed and then pointed at Gargano and said “you are not ready for TakeOver!”. Gargano quickly locked in the Gargano Escape but Dream was able to get out of it and rolled out of the ring as NXT went to a break.

When NXT returned, Dream connected with an elbow to Gargano’s jaw. Gargano threw Dream towards the rope and Dream flipped over them and onto the ring apron. Dream took his eyes off the prize and decided to pose on the apron. Gargano Dropkicked him in the back and Velveteen fell and bounced his head off the announce table. Gargano connected with a cannonball Senton off the apron.

Back in the ring, Gargano went for the slingshot Spear through the ropes but Dream caught him and connected with a swinging Neckbreaker. Dream continued to talk Gargano and shouted that he took his spot and that he doesn’t deserve it. Dream stood on Gargano’s back and Johnny’s neck pressed into the bottom rope.

Dream went for a Neckbreaker but Gargano reversed into a backslide pin for a two count. Dream tossed Gargano out of the ring and Johnny hit his back on the apron before falling to the ground. Dream climbed to the top rope and casually jumped back down to the mat instead of leaping onto Gargano.

Velveteen walked into a chop from Gargano outside the ring. Dream responded with a knee to the midsection and then dropped Gargano’s back onto the ring apron as NXT went to a break. When NXT returned, the action was back in the ring and Gargano was in control. Johnny connected with an Enziguri that knocked Dream to the corner.

Johnny hit another kick and followed it up by leaping off the middle turnbuckle and hitting a Flatliner for a two count. Gargano yanked Dream’s arm and Velveteen fell to the mat face-first. Dream connected with a Superkick that sent Gargano into the ropes but Johnny bounced off and leveled Dream with a Clothesline. Gargano draped his arm across Dream’s chest for a cover but Dream kicked out as the crowd chanted “fight forever!”.

Dream lifted Gargano up in a Fireman’s Carry but Gargano broke free. Dream connected with an awesome looking DDT for a two count. Velveteen made his way towards the top rope but Gargano knocked him to the canvas. Dream bounced off the mat and fell to the floor outside the ring. Gargano sprinted across the ring and leaped through the ropes and connected with a Suicide Dive.

Gargano brought Dream back into the ring and then made his way to the top rope. Dream leaped to the ropes and they shook and Gargano fell crotch-first onto the top turnbuckle. Dream lifted Gargano up in a Fireman’s Carry and planted Johnny with a Death Valley Driver for a two count.

Dream climbed back to the top rope and went for the Purple Rainmaker Elbow Drop but Gargano got his knees up. Dream’s left elbow was injured and he hesitated to leap off the top. Dream decided to switch to the right arm for the Elbow Drop but his hesitation cost him.

Gargano then Superkicked Dream in the face and locked in the Gargano Escape in the middle of the ring. Dream had no choice but to submit and Gargano moves on to face Andrade “Cien” Almas Saturday night at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia. This match was very good.

After the match, Andrade “Cien” Almas and Zelina Vega came down to the entrance ramp with smiles on their faces. The two circled the ring as Gargano stood in it. They entered the ring and Almas raised the title in Gargano’s face. Almas gave the title to Vega and knocked Gargano to the mat. Almas kneed Gargano in the midsection and threw him out of the ring. Almas pointed at the title and shouted “this is mine!” before raising the NXT Championship one more time.

Gargano climbed back up to the ring apron and Almas tried to hit him with the title. Gargano avoided it and planted Almas with a slingshot DDT. Vega shouted at Gargano not to touch the title as the crowd chanted “touch it!”. Gargano grabbed the title and raised it over Almas as NXT went off the air.
