The Miz Says He Wants To Main Event WrestleMania As Intercontinental Champion

23

Prior to his big victory over Roman Reigns on RAW 25 earlier this week where he recaptured the Intercontinental Championship, The Miz spoke to ESPN to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One topic of discussion is the fact that he and his wife, Maryse, are expecting their first child this Spring. The Miz does not want to miss the birth of his first daughter so he said he has a private jet on standby at all times:

“I’m so excited to be a father. I’m excited, nervous, happy, scared. It’s every emotion you could possibly think of, I’m going through it. It’s a WrestleMania baby. The only thing my wife asked me was that [she wanted me to be there]. I literally have a private jet on call at all times.

“I will spend whatever amount of money to get there, to be there and support her and witness my first child being born because I am ecstatic. I don’t want to be the dad that’s not there. I don’t want the kid to ever think that I wasn’t there. I want her to be the one that says you were there, you guided me, you supported me in the best way you knew how.”

Several huge names have held the WWE Intercontinental Title over the years, and the title means a great deal to “The Hollywood A-Lister.” He said he wasn’t happy seeing it become a ‘second-place title’:

“Ultimate Warrior, Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Rick Rude — you name it. Every superstar that was my hero growing up as a kid has held that title. It’s a title I always loved as a kid. When I got it for the first time, you’re ecstatic, you’re happy, but you watch the title become a second-place kind of title.

“The last time I got it, I literally said I [was] sick of people looking at this as just a placeholder, as like a whatever title. I want people to understand that when you hold that title, it is prestigious, it is relevant, it has a rich history and that’s what I set out to do. I think I’ve been doing a pretty good job of it, but I’m not done until I’m main-eventing WrestleMania with the Intercontinental championship.”

Miz lost the Intercontinental Title to Roman Reigns this past November in order to go film a new movie for a few weeks. Upon his return two weeks ago he received “Welcome Back” chants from the WWE Universe, something that took Miz aback:

“When I came back two weeks ago to Monday Night Raw, I was gone for six episodes, six weeks. And literally I came back and there were ‘welcome back’ chants. I thought wait a second. Brock Lesnar was gone longer than I am and he doesn’t get welcome back chants, but I am? Usually you guys hate me and boo me and tell me I suck, but now you’re welcoming me back? It made me feel that I was a piece of this puzzle and the main piece was missing.”

Steve Austin Comments On His RAW 25 Appearance, Hulk Hogan On Missing RAW 25

12

– Following his epic return to WWE on RAW 25 earlier this week, WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin took to Twitter to comment on his return. Here’s what he had to say:

– One name that missed RAW 25 is Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan, who has since been distanced from WWE since his racist comments in a leaked sex tape came to light several years ago. Hogan took to Twitter and said it was hard to sit at home and not be a part of it, but enjoyed watching what he called a ‘great show’:

Update On Major Rewrites To RAW 25th Anniversary Show

14

WWE got great news about Monday’s RAW 25th Anniversary when the viewership data was released and showed nearly 5 million fans tuned in, making it the most-watched edition of RAW in nearly 4 years.

On the flip side, fans in attendance at the Manhattan Center were largely dissatisfied with their live experience – with some going so far as to demand refunds from Ticketmaster.

https://twitter.com/Its0nlyRachel/status/955632380399816704

The RAW 25th Anniversary broadcast itself got mixed reviews and more information has come out regarding extensive rewrites to the script that took place just hours before it went live on the air.

As noted earlier, the Enzo Amore sexual assault allegation that led to his release the following day caught WWE completely off-guard. The fact that the story broke on a major media day for WWE certainly did not help matters.

Enzo had been scheduled to face Goldust in a singles match at the Barclays Center, with the Dudley Boyz initially scripted to interfere during that match. With Enzo off the show, WWE had to scramble and the Dudley appearance ultimately occurred during an impromptu match that saw Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews vs. Heath Slater & Rhyno.

Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon was shown ringside at the Barclays Center during the broadcast. According to Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Fallon was originally scripted to have a much bigger role on the show. Barrasso reveals that Fallon as supposed to be part of several backstage segments involving WWE legends. For whatever reason, Fallon did not make it to the venue until much later than originally planned. As a result, a large portion of the show had to be re-written.

Extensive rewrites the day of a major show can certainly have a negative effect on the final product. That said, it’s hard to imagine many fans having a materially different opinion of the show had it included Enzo vs. Goldust and a few Jimmy Fallon backstage segments.

Matt Hardy Teases Transition To “Broken” Character, Cedrick Alexander & Mustafa Ali Receive “This Is Awesome” Chants

11

– Following his loss to Bray Wyatt on RAW 25, “Woken” Matt Hardy teased the likes of Reby Hardy, his son Maxel, and Senor Benjamin coming to WWE with him. He also said he needs to return to the Hardy Compound to draw power from his ‘platoon.’ Hardy then stated that he needs to return to his “BROKEN” beginnings, teasing that he may soon be using the “Broken” gimmick instead of the “Woken” one he has been using on WWE TV as of late:

– In the main event of last night’s episode of 205 Live, Cedrick Alexander and Mustafa Ali put on an incredible main event that garnered “This Is Awesome” chants from the crowd. Highlights from the match, including both Alexander and Ali’s reactions, can be found below:

Enzo Amore Fired

Enzo Amore was suspended shortly after the story came out and was later released yesterday. There has been some speculation that his release was given due to failing to inform WWE of the investigation but that has not been confirmed.

Enzo’s legal team then sent out a release (via Twitter) that Enzo denies all claims against him:

Mike Kanellis Comments on Debuting and Failing

17

Mike Bennett (aka Mike Kanellis) recently posted a comment about how debuting and failing was the best thing that ever happened to him.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BeRhtrWlL-7/?hl=en&taken-by=therealmichaelbennett

Mike and Maria Kanellis in WWE

Prior to debuting in WWE at the Money in the Bank PPV last year, Bennet and Maria had been a popular act in Ring of Honor and NJPW. They had a brief run in Impact Wrestling in 2016-2017 before signing with WWE last spring/summer.

Many have responded poorly to their gimmick of a love-struck couple. Since their debut, Mike has come out as having had a painkiller addiction (for which he is now sober), and Maria is approximately 6 months pregnant.

Scrapped Raw 25 Plans For Enzo Amore

10

We noted before how Enzo Amore was suspended by WWE prior to this week’s Raw following accusations of rape. Now it’s being reported that his suspension forced the company to scrap and rewrite an entire segment of the show.

Per Pwinsider Enzo was originally supposed to face Goldust in a one on one match during the 25th Anniversary episode. The match was scheduled to take place during the third hour of the show.

The Zo Train were penned to interfere in this bout and attack the Bizarre One leading to the return of Dudley Boyz, making the save. Then The Dudleys would have put someone through the table and the segment was expected to end with them celebrating.

However, the suspension of Amore forced the company to change this angle in last minute and as seen this past Monday Night, the Dudley Boyz appeared during a tag team match between Titus O’Neil & Apollo Crews and Heath Slater & Rhyno.

Due to this change, Goldust was removed from the show completely and the members of the Zo Train were sent to Manhattan Center to work in Dark Matches as needed.

As reported before, Enzo Amore has since been released from the company altogether. You can read the statement he sent out regarding the rape allegations here.

WWE Superstar Undergoes Surgery For Torn ACL (Photo)

12

We noted last week that it appeared Samir Singh suffered an injury during the ringside angle with WWE United States Champion Bobby Roode in the tournament match with Jinder Mahal.

Samir missed weekend WWE live events and was not at tonight’s SmackDown but took to Instagram during the show and revealed that he tore his ACL and underwent surgery.

No word yet on a timetable for Singh’s return but the usual recovery time for a torn ACL is 6 to 9 months. This is the same injury that Big Cass is currently recovering from after suffering the injury in August 2017.

Below is Samir’s full post on the injury:

Update On Cruiserweight Title, 205 Live GM To Be Named Next Week

26

SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan opened tonight’s WWE 205 Live episode and announced that Enzo Amore has dropped the WWE Cruiserweight Title and will no longer be a part of the brand. Bryan then announced that a new 205 Live General Manager will be named next week and their first task will be to address the status of the vacant Cruiserweight Title.

Enzo was fired by WWE today after a woman claims he raped her at a hotel in Phoenix, Arizona last October. The Phoenix Police have been looking into the allegations since last October. The woman went public with detailed of the alleged assault today and Enzo responded with a statement from his lawyer, denying everything.

You can see video of the accuser talking about the alleged incident at this link and you can read the statement from Enzo’s lawyer at this link.

WWE Mixed Match Challenge (1/23): The Miz & Asuka vs. Big E & Carmella

2

The Miz & Asuka faced Big E & Carmella tonight in the Mixed Match Challenge on Facebook Watch.

Big E controlled The Miz early and locked him in the Abdominal Stretch. Big E had some fun and started to spank The Miz. The Miz battled back as the crowd chanted for Asuka to get in the match.

Asuka tagged in and that meant Carmella had to get in the match. Carmella didn’t seem too excited to be getting into the ring with Asuka. Big E grabbed an “L” and told Carmella to go give it to Asuka. Asuka seemed to be thankful for the gift at first but then ripped it up in anger. Carmella tagged out of the match out of fear and Big E and The Miz got back into the ring.

Big E connected with a flurry of Belly to Belly Suplexes. Asuka and Miz regained controlled and teamed up to hit a bunch of It Kicks on Carmella and Big E. Big E caught The Miz’s final kick and slammed him to the canvas. Miz shrugged it off and booted Big E in the face. Big E went for a Splash in the corner but Miz was able to get out of the way at the last second.

Asuka tagged in and walked into a big kick from Carmella. Asuka quickly battled back and locked in the Asuka Lock for the submission victory. The Miz & Asuka advanced in the Mixed Match Challenge and Big E & Carmella are now eliminated.

Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss will face Sami Zayn & Becky Lynch next week.

You can check out tonight’s match by clicking here.

5 Takeaways From WWE SmackDown (1/23)

0

The January 23rd, 2018 episode of WWE SmackDown Live aired from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC. It was the final episode of SmackDown before the Royal Rumble this Sunday. Here are 5 takeaways from this week’s show:

AJ Styles Accepted Owens & Zayn’s Challenge

owens and zayn smackdown 1 23

SmackDown kicked off with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn coming down to the ring. Owens and Zayn will face WWE Champion AJ Styles in a Handicap match this Sunday at the Royal Rumble. If Owens and Zayn win, they will become co-champions.

Owens stated that he and Zayn were the future of the WWE and poked fun of the retirees that showed up last night on RAW. Owens described the Yep Movement of staring in the face of tyranny and persevering no matter the odds. Owens and Zayn claimed that they were best competitors on SmackDown Live and vowed to win the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble.

The crowd started to chant “AJ Styles!” as Zayn said that they were going to hurt AJ Styles after they took his title this Sunday. Owens and Zayn started a “yep!” chant but were quickly interrupted by AJ Styles. AJ came down to the entrance ramp as the crowd chanted his name.

AJ started a “nope!” chant in response to Owens and Zayn claiming that they are going to capture the WWE Championship Sunday. AJ added that they are not just facing anyone, they are facing someone that is phenomenal. Owens called Styles and the crowd ignorant and Zayn stated that it was Styles’ ignorance that got him into this pickle in the first place.

Owens and Zayn rolled footage of Styles asking for it to be a Handicap match. Owens and Zayn praised Daniel Bryan for making the match and forcing AJ Styles to live up to his word. Owens and Zayn then rolled another clip of AJ Styles stating that he would face Owens and Zayn in the same night. Owens asked Styles to live up to his words and face them both back-to-back tonight.

SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan came down to the entrance ramp and stood next to AJ Styles. Bryan stated that Owens and Zayn were right about being two of the greatest Superstars to ever be in the ring. Bryan added that he has all the faith in the world that Styles can win the Handicap match on Sunday. Styles interrupted and said that he didn’t know if Bryan was in bed with those two dirtbags (in reference to Owens & Zayn) and then accepted their challenge. Styles will face Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn in back-to-back matches later tonight.

SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon were shown backstage. Shane was pissed off because he thought Bryan put AJ Styles in the two matches. Bryan said that he wasn’t going to sanction the matches tonight but AJ Styles accepted them on his own. Daniel asked Shane if he was questioning AJ Styles’ ability to defend himself tonight. Shane replied “no Daniel, that is not whose ability I am questioning” and walked away.

Daniel Bryan was about to say that the two matches wouldn’t be happening tonight, but AJ interrupted him and accepted the challenge. Styles’ pride got in the way and even if he wins tonight, it is likely that he will be heading into Sunday at less than 100%. There is clearly still a divide between Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. This storyline has been going on for some time now, so hopefully the payoff is worth it.

Chad Gable Picked Up An Impressive Victory Over Jey Uso

gable jey uso smackdown 1 23

Chad Gable faced Jey Uso tonight on SmackDown. The Usos will defend their SmackDown Tag Team Championships this Sunday at the Royal Rumble in a 2 out of 3 Falls match against Gable & Benjamin.

Gable planted Jey on the mat and then picked him back up and drove him to the corner. Jey tried to escape but knocked him back down to the mat and clubbed him across the face. Gable kept his arms wrapped around Jey’s chest as Jey started running around the ring. Chad wound up losing his grip and tumbled out of the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

When SmackDown returned, Gable missed with a Moonsault but recovered and landed on his feet. Jey Uso booted Gable out of the ring and went for a Suicide Dive but Gable punched him in the face. Gable charged at Jey but Jey ducked and Gable fell out of the ring. Jey then leaped out of the ring and landed on top of Gable.

Back in the ring, Jey went for a Splash but Gable got out of the way. Jey planted Gable with a Samoan Drop and went for a Bronco Buster but Gable caught him. Gable connected with a rolling kick and then rolled through and planted Jey Uso with a German Suplex for the pinfall victory.

Benjamin and Gable now head into their match for the Tag Team Championships this Sunday with some momentum. Both of these teams are capable of putting on an awesome match and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do at the Royal Rumble.

Randy Orton Attacked Nakamura & Corbin

Shinsuke Nakamura was interviewed backstage by Renee Young. Renee asked what Shinsuke’s strategy in the Royal Rumble. Nakamura’s strategy was to knee everyone in the face. Baron Corbin interrupted and stated that Nakamura has accomplished nothing in WWE but gets away with it because the crowd cares about him. Corbin added that he doesn’t give a damn what the crowd thinks and they can keep their pathetic opinions to themselves. Nakamura said it is not about what he has done, it is about what he is going to do at the Royal Rumble. Nakamura and Corbin faced off against each other later on SmackDown.

Corbin and Nakamura locked up to start off the match. Corbin used his strength to get the upper hand for a moment but Nakamura escaped and dared Corbin to charge at him. Nakamura kneed Corbin in the face and then stomped on him in the corner. Corbin rolled out of the ring to regroup and Shinsuke followed him. Corbin threw Nakamura back in the ring and Shinsuke once again challenged him to charge at him.

Corbin began walking up the entrance ramp and Nakamura once again chased after him. Corbin punched Nakamura in the throat and then launched him throat-first into the ring ropes as SmackDown went to a break.

Nakamura dropped Corbin with a boot to the chest when SmackDown returned. Shinsuke draped Corbin across the top rope and connected with a knee strike to Corbin’s ribs for a two count. Nakamura went for the Kinshasa but Corbin countered into the Deep Six for a two count. Corbin then leveled Nakamura with a massive Clothesline and went for another cover but once again Shinsuke kicked out. Corbin pounded the canvas in frustration after Nakamura kicked out.

Corbin went for the End of Days but Nakamura reversed it into an Arm Bar. Corbin escaped but Shinsuke connected with a kick. Nakamura went for the Kinshasa once again but Randy Orton came out of nowhere and hit him with an RKO. Orton then planted Corbin with an RKO and posed on the turnbuckle.

This was a cool moment, but I can’t imagine the anger that would spread throughout the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia if Orton won the Royal Rumble again this Sunday. It wouldn’t reach Roman Reigns level outrage, but it would be up there. People tolerated Orton winning it last year simply because he wasn’t Roman Reigns. I doubt that would work again this year.

New Day Will Be In The Royal Rumble

new day champs

Big E, Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston announced that they will all be in the Royal Rumble. Bobby Roode made his way down to the ring as the New Day played air instruments and Xavier Woods sang along to his theme. Roode grabbed a microphone and stated that he couldn’t think of a better place to debut as the new United States Champion than Washington, D.C. Roode added that his reign as US Champ was going to be absolutely glorious. New Day (Woods & Kingston) and Roode then battled Mahal and Rusev Day in a 6-man tag match.

Rusev beatdown Kofi Kingston to start off the match and took a break to blast Woods off the ring apron. Kofi connected with a Bulldog and both Superstars fell to the canvas. Kofi tagged in Roode and Aiden English was tagged in as well. Roode connected with a Neckbreaker and then kneed Mahal off the apron. Roode hit English with a Blockbuster and then planted Mahal with a Spinebuster. Rusev booted Roode in the head and English went for a roll-up but Roode kicked out.

Kofi knocked Rusev out of the ring and then leaped onto both Rusev and Mahal outside the ring. Roode planted English with a Spinebuster and tagged in Woods. Xavier climbed to the top rope and delivered an Elbow Drop for the pinfall victory.

Owens & Zayn Got The Last Laugh Before Royal Rumble

AJ Styles SmackDown 1 23

AJ Styles faced Kevin Owens in the first of his back-to-back matches. Sami Zayn tried to accompany Owens to the ring but Shane McMahon came down to the entrance ramp. Shane said that if either Sami or Owens interfere in each other’s matches tonight, they will be fired on the spot.

Owens controlled the match early and knocked Styles to the mat with a Clothesline. OWens went for a Cannonball but AJ got out of the way. Owens banged his knee into the middle turnbuckle and Styles quickly applied the Calf Crusher for the submission victory. Styles wouldn’t let go of the Calf Crusher after the match ended and Sami Zayn sprinted to the ring and punched AJ in the face a couple of times.

Sami quickly checked on Owens and then went back to beating down AJ Styles. Sami launched AJ into the steel steps outside the ring as Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon looked on from the back as SmackDown went to a break.

When SmackDown returned, the match between Zayn and AJ officially started. Sami continued to punch AJ in the face as Owens was being attended to by WWE’s medical staff on the entrance ramp.

Zayn connected with a chop to Styles’ chest and then smacked him in the face. Zayn hit AJ with a Clothesline for a two count and followed it up with a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring. AJ finally was able to battle back and knocked Owens to the mat with a forearm.

AJ launched Zayn out of the ring and leaped onto him and hit another forearm to Sami’s face. AJ threw Zayn back into the ring and then Styles attacked Owens as he was still being looked at by WWE doctors. Zayn leveled AJ with a Clothesline outside the ring as SmackDown went to a commercial break.

Zayn was still in control when SmackDown returned and connected with another punch to Styles’ face. AJ planted Sami with a Hurricanrana and bought himself some time to regroup. AJ and Sami traded chops and then AJ connected with a Neckbreaker. Sami battled back and went for the Helluva Kick but AJ blocked it and connected with a Pele Kick for a two count.

Sami connected with a Michinoku Driver for a two count. Zayn perched AJ up on the top turnbuckle and went for a Superplex but AJ wiggled free and slammed Sami face-first into the top turnbuckle.

AJ connected with a knee to Zayn’s face outside the ring and then threw Sami back into the ring. Owens was on the stretcher and AJ flipped it over. AJ got back into the ring and walked right into a Helluva Kick. Sami followed it up with an awesome Blue Thunder Bomb for the pinfall victory. Owens and Zayn celebrated in the ring as SmackDown went off the air.

Owens and Zayn got the last laugh heading into the Royal Rumble PPV this Sunday. AJ Styles already had an uphill battle in front of him before he competed in two matches tonight. Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon continue to be at the center of this storyline and I’m expecting them to somehow involved in the Handicap match on Sunday.

WWE SmackDown Results & Live Discussion (1/23)

58

The January 23rd, 2018 edition of WWE SmackDown Live took place at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

– The go-home show for Royal Rumble 2018 opes up with Tom Phillips welcoming us to Washington, DC. He’s joined by Byron Saxton and Corey Graves at the broadcast table.

– Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn come down to the ring to kick off this week’s show. They get on the mic and start ranting about SD Commissioner Shane McMahon, and WWE Champion AJ Styles. They say AJ has no chance at leaving the Royal Rumble with the strap. They say not only will they take the Title from AJ on Sunday, but they’re going to hurt him. AJ comes out to the stage to interrupt. AJ says they have the advantage Sunday since it’s a handicap match, but as long as he has any fight left in his body, he will make sure they do not become co-WWE Champion. AJ reminds them that this is the house AJ Styles built. Owens and Zayn propose that AJ wrestle them in separate singles matches tonight, back to back, to see what Styles has got. Daniel Bryan comes out to interrupt, and says enough is enough. Bryan says Owens and Zayn are two of the best to step in the ring, and they’re right about how hard it is to win a handicap match, but he has the upmost faith in AJ. AJ cuts on Bryan and questions his motives. AJ says he accepts the two matches against Owens and Zayn tonight, and he’s going to be the one hurting them. AJ drops the mic and has a brief stare-down with Bryan before leaving.

– Daniel Bryan is backsktage with Shane McMahon. Shane doesn’t like that AJ is being booked in two matches right before a Title defense on Sunday. Bryan says he has faith in AJ, and Shane says he isn’t sure if Bryan is shooting straight with him. Bryan asks if Shane is questioning AJ’s ability to defend himself tonight, and Shane says he’s not.

Chad Gable vs. Jey Uso: Jimmy Uso and Shelton Benjamin are both at ringside for this one. Gable shoots for the leg to start, and they go back and forth with holds. Gable slams Uso to the mat and tries to keep him grounded. Uso ducks a shot and sends Gable out to the floor, then follows him out and beats him down at ringside. Back in the ring, Jey works over Gable until Gable catches him with a Northern Lights Suplex for a 2 count. Gable starts firing up but misses a moonsault. Jey sends Gable outside and hits a dive on Gable on the floor near Shelton. Back in the ring, Jey goes up top but misses. Jey recovers and does connect with a Samoan Drop on Gable. Gable gets to his feet and they brawl until Gable is able to catch Jey with a big German suplex for the three count.

Winner: Chad Gable

– After the match, Gable celebrates the win with Benjamin.

– Shinsuke Nakamura is backstage for an interview about the Royal Rumble on Sunday. Baron Corbin interrupts and says Nakamura is all hype, and he doesn’t care about the fans because they don’t pay his bills. Corbin trashes the fans and Nakamura, and Nakamura proposes that they rumble tonight to see who’s really all hype.

Naomi vs. Liv Morgan: Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan are at ringside. Naomi takes control early on and hits a side walk slam for a two count. Liv connects with some kicks, but Naomi answers with some kicks of her own. Liv sends Naomi face-first into the turnbuckle, then hits a double stomp to the back of the head. Liv continues to beat down Naomi as Natalya, Lana, Becky and Carmella come down to ringside for a closer look. Naomi comes back with some kicks on Liv and springboards over the rope with a sunset flip on Liv for the three count.

Winner: Naomi

– After the match, Ruby and Logan hit the ring and attack Naomi. Becky runs in, then everyone else at ringside runs in and there’s a big brawl. It leads to the women all throwing each other over the top rope to the outside. It’s down to Natalya and Naomi, but Women’s Champion Charlotte comes out to the stage to interrupt and they stop fighting. Charlotte wishes them all good luck on Sunday, and especially to the winner of the women’s Rumble match, because they’ll have to face her.

– We see selfie videos from Tye Dillinger, The Miz & Asuka, and Carmella & Big E promoting the Royal Rumble and the Mixed Match Tag Challenge.

Baron Corbin vs. Shinsuke Nakamura: Nakamura starts this one off strong with strikes on Corbin, then he does the Good Vibrations in the corner. Corbin rolls outside for a breather and Nakamura follows him out. Corbin throws him into the apron, then back in the ring, and Corbin starts walking up the ramp. Nakamura rolls back outside, where Corbin hits an uppercut then throws Nakamura into the ring post. Back in the ring, Corbin controls the next moments of the match and beats down Nakamura. Nakamura finally fires back with a running boot to the face, then a running knee strike in the corner for a two count. Nakamura picks up Corbin and goes for a suplex, but Corbin fights out. Corbin hits an elbow and goes for a suplex of his own, but Nakamura fights out and hits a reverse suplex. Nakamura sets up for the running knee, but Corbin dodges it and hits the Deep Six for a 2 count. Corbin runs the ropes and hits a big clothesline for another 2 count. Corbin goes for the End of Days, but Nakamura reverses it into an armbar. Corbin gets out, but Nakamura decks him with a heel kick. Nakamura sets up for a Kinshasa, but Randy Orton runs in and hits an RKO out of nowhere. The ref calls for the bell and this one is a DQ.

Winner via DQ: Shinsuke Nakamura

– After the bell, Corbin gets up and he’s not happy. Corbin charges at Orton, but Orton catches him with an RKO too. Orton poses on the turnbuckle before leaving.

– We see some highlights from last night’s RAW 25th Anniversary show.

– The New Day comes out to the ring handing out pancakes and cereal. They talk about last night’s RAW 25h Anniversary, and then move on to the topic of the U.S. Championship, which brings out U.S. Champ Bobby Roode. Roode says he’s going to be the best U.S. Champion in history, which will be no easy task. The New Day starts interrupting his promo and they do the “glorious” thing together. Jinder Mahal is out next with one of the Singh Brothers. Rusev is out next with Aiden English, and we’ve got a six-man tag.

Aiden English, Rusev & Jinder Mahal vs. Bobby Roode, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods: Rusev starts off strong with a big boot to Kofi. Rusev hits a cheap shot on Woods too, but then Kofi starts making a comeback. Roode and English tag in, and Roode unloads with offense. Roode hits a neckbreaker on English, then knocks Jinder off the apron. Roode follows up with a Blockbuster on English. Jinder comes in and Roode hits a spinebuster on him. Rusev runs in but Kofi comes flying off the top and takes him down. Jinder and Rusev roll outside, and Kofi hits them with a suicide dive. Roode and English still go at it in the ring until Woods tags in. Roode hits a spinebuster on English, then Woods immediately follows up with a top rope elbow drop for the three count on English.

Winner: Bobby Roode, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods

– AJ Styles comes out to the ring, and then Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn come out. Before Owens and Zayn get to the ring, Shane McMahon comes out and orders that Zayn not be at ringside for Owens’ singles match against Styles. Shane tells Zayn to come backstage with him, while Owens protests that Daniel Bryan said it was okay for Zayn to be at ringside. Shane says if there is any interference tonight from either of them, they will be fired. Shane ends up leaving and taking Zayn backstage.

AJ Styles vs. Kevin Owens: Owens starts off strong here and beats down AJ in the corner. Owens goes for the running cannonball in the corner, but AJ dodges it. AJ drops Owens and locks in the Calf Crusher in the middle of the ring. Owens tries to fight it off, but taps out, and AJ wins via submission after a very short match.

Winner: AJ Styles

– After the bell, AJ continues to hold onto the Calf Crusher until Sami Zayn runs down and breaks it up. Sami hits a cheap shot on AJ and then starts beating him down all over ringside. We see Shane and Daniel backstage watching on a monitor as Zayn pummels on AJ in front of the broadcast table at ringside. Sami gets in the ring and AJ starts to recover. AJ tells the ref he’s good to go, and the ref starts the Zayn vs. Styles match net. Owens is still at ringside selling his leg from the Calf Crusher. According to Shane McMahon, if Owens tries to interfere, he will be fired.

AJ Styles vs. Sami Zayn: Sami immediately takes the fight to AJ and starts beating him down on the mat. We see company staffers and medics still checking on Owens at ringside. Shane and Daniel are still watching on a monitor backstage. AJ ducks a shot from Sami and fires back with a series of strikes. AJ hits a running forearm shot on Sami, then hits a splash in the corner. AJ goes for a fireman’s carry, but Sami escapes. AJ throws Sami out to ringside right next to Owens. Styles follows up with a suicide plancha on Sami at ringside. AJ throws Sami back in the ring, then gets on the apron. AJ turns his attention to Owens, then starts beating him down at ringside. Zayn rolls back out to ringside and clotheslines Styles down to the floor. Back in the ring, Zayn and AJ trade strikes back and forth. They fight up to the top turnbuckle where AJ hits a Frankensteiner on Sami. They trade strikes again until AJ catches Zayn with a fireman’s carry neckbreaker for a two count. AJ goes for the Styles Clash, but Zayn fights out. Sami hits a kick and a chop, then a tornado DDT. Zayn charges at AJ in the corner, but AJ stops him with a boot to the face. AJ goes for the moonsault reverse DDT and misses, but he does connect with a Pele kick for a 2 count. Sami fights back with some elbows to the face, then a Michinoku Driver for a 2 count of his own. Owens is still being loaded on to a stretcher at ringside, and he seems to be stalling so he can keep watching the match. Sami and AJ fight back up to the top turnbuckle, but AJ slides through the legs and drops Sami. AJ hits boot to the midsection and attempts the Styles Clash, but Sami escapes and rolls outside. AJ kicks Sami from the apron, then throws him back in the ring. AJ turns his attention to Owens again, and this time flips him off the stretcher at ringside. Enzo Amore’s Accuser Speaks Out (Video)

57

Philomena Sheahan, the woman who has accused Enzo Amore of sexual assault, spoke with TMZ Sports on Tuesday about the alleged incident.

Sheahan claims Amore ripped off her tights and “completely started sexually assaulting me.” She says she told him “countless times” until she was thrown onto a bed which resulted in her striking her head and was “literally passed out.”

WWE released Enzo Amore earlier today.

The Reason Roman Reigns Dropped The Intercontinental Title To The Miz, Steroid Accusation-Related?

16

Roman Reigns dropped the Intercontinental Championship to The Miz on last night’s RAW 25 episode, causing some fans to speculate as to whether or not this was due to reports leaking out that “The Big Dog” was involved in a steroid ring scandal. Richard Rodriguez, owner of Wellness Fitness Nutrition LLC (WFN), names Reigns (along with a few other celebrities) as a client of his. Rodriguez’s WFN was raided by the DEA last year after a year-long investigation.

Reigns released a statement denying any involvement with Rodriguez, and claims not to have even known the man:

“I have never heard of Richard Rodriguez or Wellness Fitness Nutrition. I learned from the mistake I made nearly two years ago and paid the penalty for it. Since then, I’ve passed 11 tests as part of WWE’s independent drug testing program.”

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio reports that Reigns’ Intercontinental Title loss to Miz is not related to these events. In fact, WWE sees this as a non-story. Reigns is reportedly still scheduled to main event WrestleMania 34 opposite Brock Lesnar and challenge “The Beast” for the Universal Title. Meltzer also reports that The Miz is actually receiving a big push right now as they have major plans for him at WrestleMania 34.

This could be part of the reason Miz went over on Reigns and recaptured the Intercontinental Title. Another reason could be to have Reigns focus on challenging for the Universal Title as we kick off the Road To WrestleMania. There is currently no word on whether or not Reigns is winning the Royal Rumble, but it would make sense to set up Reigns vs. Lesnar at WrestleMania.

Reigns Reacts To IC Title Loss, WWE 24 Documentary Set To Air Following Royal Rumble

5

– WWE will air a new WWE 24 documentary on the WWE Network following The Royal Rumble this weekend. The special will last for one-hour and will go behind the scenes of WrestleMania 33 last year in Orlando.

– On last night’s RAW 25 Roman Reigns dropped the Intercontinental Championship to The Miz. “The Big Dog” took to Twitter to reflect on the loss, saying despite the fact that the result didn’t go his way last night it’s still his yard:

Charlotte Flair Drops Hint About WrestleMania 34 Entrance Plans

1

SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair was recently interviewed by Mike Jones of DC 101 to discuss several professional wrestling topics, including last night’s RAW 25 special. Flair was asked about her plans for her WrestleMania 34 entrance following last year’s peacock-themed entrance at WrestleMania 33:

“I already had that planned after WM last year. So, the peacock theme for last year was because we knew my dad was gonna be immortalized. If you look at the old wrestling magazines from the 80s, they had all of his robes and he was the peacock of wrestling. And we were like, ‘oh let’s make you a peacock’.

“So the robe on the cover of my book is the robe I want to do one day, but probably somewhere near the end of my career. This year, I had a specific idea and so we’ve been working on it since last Mania. (Any hints?) Warrior. You can go either way and I’m giving YOU the most. We just got an exclusive from the Queen herself about Warrior and WrestleMania in New Orleans.”

Recently Sasha Banks voiced her opinion that there should be a Women’s Tag Team division with Women’s Tag Team Titles. Flair doesn’t see that happening right now, and believes if you keep adding titles then it devalues them as well:

“I don’t see it right now because I just don’t think there are enough girls. And I don’t mean that ‘oh we need more women’. And if you think about it, the more titles you have, it devalues one title. Could you imagine tag titles for women on both shows? If there is a women’s show on WWE Network one day, for sure I could see that happening.”

Earlier this week in New York Flair had the chance to open up the New York Stock Exchange alongside Alexa Bliss, Roman Reigns, and AJ Styles. Flair explained why she was nervous during the event and said her heart was racing:

“It was crazy. I honestly didn’t know what to expect. Like, did I really have to ring a bell? It was just this little button that you had to press at 8:29:50 and hold it for 10 seconds. If you let go even before the 10 seconds was up you would ruin the entire day and the bell would never go off. Then everyone would boo you and I said I was used to that. But no pressure, so Alexa (Bliss) and I did it together. I was nervous and my heart started racing. Like, this is live and I’m used to live. I’m sure people have screwed it up before, but I’m gonna have to Google that.”

In regards to RAW 25 last night, several Hall Of Famers and legends of the past were in attendance. One of them was none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin, who received the biggest pop of the night. “The Queen” said it was surreal to see “The Texas Rattlesnake” do his thing at RAW 25 after growing up watching him:

“Well having Mean Gene there was pretty cool just because he was such an important part in my Dad’s career and going back to WCW before my dad wrestled Vader, when Mean Gene came to our house in Charlotte in 93. But also standing near the Gorilla Position and just being out there for Stone Cold. (How great was that?) Feeling the energy of the crowd and he is a SUPERSTAR and it was crazy to think ‘ok Stone Cold is on this show, I grew up watching him, and my dad has so much respect for him, and I’m on this show too. We’re like co-workers.’ Even though I’m in it and I grew up in the business, and I’m part of this show too. WOW. It’s surreal.”

Flair has had the privilege of playing both heel and babyface during her time in WWE, but revealed that although it’s fun being bad the connection she has established with the younger WWE fans while playing a babyface is a special one:

“I really enjoy being bad. But, I will say since I’ve made the switch to SmackDown through Social and different live events, the kids are really connecting with me right now. That means a lot to me especially being a positive role model especially at signings. I’ve had kids come up to me and say ‘you were not nice to your dad’ and it crushed me. But that’s my role, and If I go back to being a bad guy, it’s because I want to be the worst bad guy to make those good guys mean that much to them that they idolize them.”

Enzo Amore Released From WWE

175

WWE has announced that Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore (Eric Arndt) has been released. The news comes after Phoenix Police confirmed that they investigating Arndt for sexual assault from an incident that allegedly occured back on October 19th at the Clarendon Hotel and Spa. On Monday, a woman accused Enzo Amore of the assault and posted a detailed description of the alleged altercation.

WWE first responded to the news on Tuesday by suspending him “until this matter is resolved.”

“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving sexual harassment or sexual assault. Until this matter is resolved, Eric Arndt (aka Enzo Amore) has been suspended.”

It remains to be seen what led WWE to release Enzo just one day after suspending him ‘pending investigation.’ Reporter Sean Ross Sapp states that WWE did not find out about the rape allegation and pending investigation until yesterday. If so, that would certainly be grounds for firing. Had WWE known Enzo Amore was under investigation for sexual assault, would they have made him Cruiserweight Champion and the focal point of 205 Live? Highly unlikely.

WWE’s decision to release him aside, Eric Arndt is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

This is a developing story and we will provide an update when more information becomes available.

Carmella Calls Out Asuka on Twitter, Asuka Responds

3

Ms. Money in the Bank, Carmella, is disputing Asuka’s claim to an undefeated streak. Carmella won a battle royal on July 1st, 2016 which Asuka was also in.

Asuka responded with the following:

Asuka and Carmella will both be in the 1st ever women’s Royal Rumble match on Sunday. Their teams face each other in the MMC Challenge tonight.

Asuka and Goldberg’s Undefeated Streak

To be completely accurate, Asuka also wrestled in multiple fatal 4-way matches on NXT house shows in 2016 that she didn’t win either. She was never pinned or submitted, however, and has never lost a singles match.

A little-known fact regarding Goldberg’s undefeated streak is that he actually lost a non-televised match to a wrestler named Chad Fortune on July 24th, 1997. The story goes WCW wanted to see how he would react to being asked to lose.
