Update On The Rumored Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara Feud

36

There are still plans for a Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara match at WrestleMania 29.

The high-flying duo has been together since September, but have not fully gotten themselves over as a threat to the tag titles yet. The plan is for them to win the tag titles and have a solid run as champions before breaking up and meeting in the ring next April.

WWE has been satisfied with Sin Cara getting over by working with Mysterio.

The match was originally discussed for WrestleMania 28 this past April, but was called off due to injuries. No word on whether WWE plans to give out Mysterio and Sin Cara masks to the audience in hopes of setting the Guinness World Record for “most masks worn in a public gathering” as was previously discussed.

Eve Torres Describes Her WWE Character (Video), Rosa Mendes Issues A Survey, The Gobbledy Gooker

6

– Last week on Raw, Alberto Del Rio’s personal ring announcer Ricardo Rodriguez handed Rosa Mendes a note. Apparently in response to this, the WWE Diva issued a Tout message asking fans whether she should “go the old fashioned way and wait for him to come to [her]” or take matters into her own hands.

– The Gobbledy Gooker is featured in today’s “Superstar Spotlight” on WWE.com.

– WWE Divas Champion Eve is featured in a profile piece by American Latino, who discusses empowering women in and out of the squared circle.

The video, which largely focuses on Eve’s self-defense program for woman, includes a sound bite on her villainous WWE character. She states, “Eve Torres in the WWE is a woman who gets what she wants. She is a powerful woman. Some may be against her tactics, but others can’t really argue with her because at the end of the day, she is currently [WWE Divas] Champion.”

Dusty Rhodes Talks About Ambrose, Rollins & Reigns, Their Rumored Theme Song

31

WWE.com has an interview up with NXT authority figure Dusty Rhodes, who talks about the new faction of Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns invading WWE and raising hell. Here are some highlights of what Dusty said about:

Why They Are Targeting Ryback: “They picked the right guy, because sometimes the way to become the next big thing is by going after the biggest dog in the yard. They really believe – they’d talk to me about this – that guys like Ryback are ‘just one-dimensional,’ and that’s quoting these three guys.”

The Group Making An Impact: “In our developmental system, there’s one thing we’re always preaching: make an impact. I’m not condoning the actions of these three guys. But they see the youth movement. They see the Kofi Kingstons and Damien Sandows of WWE, and they want to be part of it. I always told them, ‘If you see the opportunity, you have to take it.’”

“As a coach and a teacher and mentor, as well as the GM of NXT , I know that all of these kids are told to step up to the plate and hit a home run. Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns just got tired of seeing the other guys out there, making money that could be theirs. They want those WWE roster spots, and they’re ready to knock down doors.”

– PWTorch.com is reporting that entrance theme song for the new group is rumored to be a song titled, “I’m Telling You” by the Cincinnati-based band “Damn It To Hell.” You can hear the song below:

MAILBAG: Is Hulk Hogan The Greatest Face/Heel Ever?

19

SEScoops Mailbag for November 21st

(please submit YOUR questions to [email protected]) or follow @solomonster on Twitter and submit them that way!

Q: Do you think Randy Orton’s willingness to put people over for the last year or so (Dolph, Christian, Henry) is because he doesn’t care about his current face persona? Could you see him having more of an issue with losing if he was a heel? – Oliver Davis

A: Fact is, Orton may well be OK with putting people over and deserves credit for it, but how do we know he isn’t forced into doing it kicking and screaming? At the end of the day, you do what you’re told to do. And he is really in no position to raise hell given the two Wellness strikes he has against him.

Q: With the WWE debuting groups of wrestlers together the last couple of years, does that tend to dilute each guy more? – Cory Kraus

A: It can, but the key is in the follow-up. If WWE goes out of its way to make sure each guy has their own identity and an opportunity to speak, they can get them over. But typically, with groups like this, it’s one or two key people who end up breaking out from the pack.

Q: Always wanted to ask you your opinion on how long [Chris] Jericho’s push in 2001 would have been held off had Triple H not been injured? – Nick Jackson

A: I don’t think Triple H’s injury impacted Jericho’s push all that much in 2001. He and Benoit got a shot at Austin’s title the following month when the original plan (pitched by Paul Heyman if I recall correctly) was for the Two Man Power Trip to feud with one another, so I suppose that was a small plus for Jericho. If anything, you could argue it *really* helped him in ’02 as they needed someone HHH could beat for the title at WrestleMania and Jericho was that guy. While he ended up doing the job, he still got to work his first and only Mania main event.

Q: Do you think John Cena vs. The Undertaker is still possible for WrestleMania 30? – @1987cordellmitc

A: Sure, if Taker wrestles in 2014, Cena would be a fine (and safe) opponent for him, especially if that is his last match.

Q: What do you think of the new JoMo & Masters tag team? Do you think this could work in WWE or will they never return? – @Wreds_de

A: I wasn’t even aware they had formed a team. I think both could return at some point, but Morrison would definitely be as a single.

Q: Do you think it would be a great boost for Daniel Bryan to hold or just get an opportunity for the World title while being the Tag Team champion at the same time? Like the late, great Eddie [Guerrero] had done before when he was with Chavo. I think it’s a great story if Kane helps him win a World title and [then they] argue about it, or Kane [wins some other] title besides the tag belt. – Bryan V.

A: Comedy with the tag titles is fine. Comedy with your World title is not. There’s enough talent where one man does not need to hold two titles.

Q: Do you think Hulk Hogan/Hollywood Hogan is the greatest face/heel ever? Considering he brought in two different eras in wrestling, from the 80’s and early 90’s in his red and yellow babyface persona, to the late 90’s during the Monday Night Wars where he reinvented himself as a complete heel, which he was very successful at as well. I really dont see anybody else in the same breath. – Cordell Mitchell

A: I think that’s a fair statement. The only other person that comes to mind would be Ric Flair, who was quite good in both roles, but he never did nearly the kind of business Hogan did at the peak of his popularity both as a heel and a face.

Q: On a recent edition of the Sound Off, you mentioned something about Duke “The Dumpster” Droese and date rape drugs. This prompted me to do a little digging via Google search and I found several [sites] stating that Duke used to date rape women at bars and brag about it. Eventually, this got around to JBL who raped, or pretended to rape, Duke in the locker room to teach him a lesson. Is there any credibility to this story? What’s your take on it and what do you believe is true/false? – Matt I.

A: As I understand it, the allegations are true. To make up something like this that wasn’t true, Duke could have gone to court to sue if he knew who started it and that never happened, so read into that what you will. Did he “drop the soap” with JBL? I wasn’t there to see it, and for that I clasp my hands together and thank the lord every day. But these are the stories told by people in the WWF at that time.

Jake “The Snake” Roberts Discusses His Personal Problems, Says He Has Considered Committing Suicide

6

This past Tuesday night, WWE Legend Jake “The Snake” Roberts appeared was interviewed by Simon Cassidy and David Thomson on the Big WrestleShark Show on 98.4 Pulse FM. In an exclusive half hour interview, Jake spoke openly and frankly about his past, his personal problems, how he became involved with Diamond Dallas Page and his plans for the future. For more the full interview and more information, head over and like www.Facebook.com/BigWrestleSharkShow. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

On his personal problems and past injuries: “You’re gets broken down..I had two discs removed from my neck, hip replacement, part of my left foot removed, compound fracture in my right arm, wrist reconstruction, broken sternum splice. Other than that, I was in horrible shape…I had a well-publicised, by my own admissions, a career with alcohol and drugs did not help my situation. I had become so depressed that, not that I would have ever done it…I may have tried a couple of times…but suicide was something I thought about a lot. So depressed that I had blown my career…I could have been so much more than I was. Gone through three marriages, fathered eight children but wasn’t a dad to any of them, I was too busy wrestling or being high. You start looking at yourself at that point and you hate yourself…I had a lot of shame, a lot of anger, a lot of freakin’ anger, basically I had given up. I didn’t want to live. I had no hope. I had no dreams. I hope nobody out there gets to that point, but when you quit dreaming, when you quit having hope, it’s a pretty god dam horrible place to be. You don’t care if you breath. You don’t care about anything.

On his recent “Resurrection” through DDPYoga: “Dallas called me, asked how I was doing, I bullsh*ted and I lied, said I was getting through it, and he said ‘man…you don’t sound right?’ Well man, it is what it is, I just don’t give a sh*t anymore. I buried my father, my mother was in poor health, a whole bunch of reasons to use and I sure took advantage of them. I’d drink…because that was the only time I could forget where I was at. He said he wanted come see me and to send me some yoga stuff and I was like ‘are you f*cking kidding me? Right, Jake ‘The Snake’ is doing yoga! I may have been screwed up enough to play a snake, but I ain’t doing yoga dude.’

“He said, if you’ll try…and you start losing weight…there might be something I can do for you, and it would be long term and would be an opportunity…to try something different since the bullsh*t I was doing obviously wasn’t working…so I did the food thing for like ten 11 days, didn’t really think a whole lot about it, then one day I got on the scale and was like ‘holy sh*t I’ve lost 14lbs, what the hell’s wrong with me? I must be dying!’ That was the first time I thought this might actually work…a couple weeks later he came down…and was like, ok ‘keep doing the good work, when you get down to 30lbs, we’ll move you down to Atlanta, and we’ll get serious on this sh*t’…at that point I was still drinking too much, but we’ll get to that in a minute.”

On his recent inebriated appearance at an Indie Event: “When I got down to Atlanta, DDP was like ‘OK, the first thing we need to talk about is your drinking…why do you drink?’ and I was just like ‘Well, I like it’…so I’m like OK,OK,OK I’ll play your silly f*cking game and I said well how about a couple of beers? So he agreed, we’ll try sticking to two beers. Well that lasted about a week…

“I went out on an autograph thing on Rhode Island. Did really well, didn’t drink for a two or three days during the signing, and I spoke to a lot of people and they were just patting me on the back, saying how much better I looked with all the weight I had lost, saying ‘damn Jake you haven’t looked this good in years, keep up the good work’…well, you shouldn’t tell a drunk or an addict these things. Like everything else in life, I use whatever situation I am in to get drunk or get high. In this instance it was ‘man you deserve a reward’. Man, I’m not a god damn dog that did a trick, but that’s the way I treated myself. The next thing I know, I’m getting off a plane in Atlanta…and Dallas is there, I don’t know why Dallas is there. We get back to the house and I find out I had been pretty stupid and ridiculous, and basically had gone through a four hour blackout. Blacked out. Didn’t know what I had done, what I had said, who I had offended…thank god I wasn’t in jail. I think if Dallas hadn’t been at the airport I would have ended up in there.

“Next morning, we get up and Dallas is saying ‘last week you did really well, then you go out this week and totally screw up…so here’s the new deal. Absolutely no alcohol. And at that point I’m like, you are absolutely right…because the sh*t isn’t doing you any good. Then he was like ‘you should go back to A.A…so two days later I went back…but then I went to Dallas and was like ‘I agree with the no drinking thing, but you’re gonna have to help me’…so we went to a doctor and got set up with something called anti-buse. Brother, if you drink alcohol with that stuff it will drop you like a gunshot. It will make you so violently ill, that you will not think about drinking. But it’s a crutch for me. It’s a safety line, and being here with Dallas, he’s making me change my way of thinking about things.”

On his ambitions for the future: “I’ve got a life man…I’m dreaming again…it might take more than 24 hours to fix this sh*t, so I just need to shut up, get in the car and go for the ride with [Dallas]…I have unlimited dreams. I’m thinking about building furniture again, because I loved to build furniture. For the first time I got on a computer…here I am 57 years old and I don’t even know how to turn a computer on. But now I want to do it, I want to accomplish these goals. Before I never wanted to do it…my mind is clicking again man.

“I’m happy, I feel good about myself. Yeah I’ve got a long way, but brother, I’ve already been a long way…I’ve already been a long way man. I never thought I would be in the shape I’m in now, much less where I’m going. I’m calling my children, I’m developing relationships, I’m calling my mother again…

“I’m gonna do this. I want to do this, I need to do this, because I know I’m a good human being, I’ve always been a good human being, I’ve just been a disturbed human being. I’m not letting the demons beat my ass anymore. Those demons have not got a chance.

“There is nobody that could hang with me in the ring in my heyday, can you imagine if I hadn’t been screwed up? I would have left them so far behind, but that’s OK man. You know, I retired from the ring two years ago. But you know what, I’m going to go back in…for a short run. Just a few matches. That way, I can say goodbye the way I wanted to. Not 310lbs, couldn’t hardly get in the ring and look like Sh*t. I deserve more than that! I wanna get in there and stand with my head held high and say ‘I am the f*cking man’ and I’m a good man. That’s how I want to say goodbye to my fans.”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque Explains Why He Cut Off His Trademark Ponytail In September

10

Promoting WrestleMania XXIX at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, appeared on WHEB-FM’s “The Morning Buzz.” During the radio interview, he explained that he cut off his trademark ponytail in September because wearing it on a daily basis in the corporate environment had become an increasing nuisance.

“To be honest, the hair actually didn’t have that much to do with the corporate position as much as it did with… For years when I was wrestling and I wore my hair down all the time—I’d go through airports whenever I let my hair down, it didn’t matter—and just in that [corporate] environment I was wearing my hair up all the time. It just got to be such a pain that for the last year and a half I’ve been dying to cut it off. It just started to become the bane of my existence, my hair every day, and I never wore it down; I just couldn’t wait for the time when I could finally get rid of it,” Levesque explains.

“And it’s the weirdest thing. To me, it wasn’t that big of a deal and I didn’t really put that much thought into it, but then I literally did it in the morning, drove to the office, there was a couple of people outside, I took a few pictures as I was walking in, and I went inside. I got upstairs, it wasn’t even ten minutes later, and someone came up, “Dude, you’re all over TMZ that you cut your hair.”

The audio interview is available here.

Rumored Name For Rollins, Ambrose & Reigns, Stratus On Canadian TV Today, Bellas

33

– Today is the 29th birthday of former WWE divas The Bella Twins. Brianna and Stephanie Garcia-Colace were born on November 21, 1983.

– Former WWE diva Trish Stratus, along with Toronto Blue Jays legend Joe Carter, appeared on TV host Maralyn Denis’ popular CTV show in Canada to promote her Stratusphere Yoga For Men program. You can see a screen cap of Trish on the show on Twitter.

WWE Spanish announcer Marcelo Rodriguez tweeted on Monday night [translated]:

“The Shield. Remember that name! I have a feeling that they will be as big (or bigger) than The Nexos or The Corre.”

On Tuesday night, he clarified that when they attacked Ryback at Survivor Series, they had badges on their black outfits that said “The Shield” on them, and that’s why he assumes their name is The Shield.

A search of WWE’s trademarks did not turn up anything for “The Shield” – but if their uniforms say “The Shield” on them, there’s a good chance that this will be the name of the faction.

Hour 2: 3,923,000
Hour 3: 3,710,000

This marks 14 straight weeks that WWE has lost viewership in the final hour of RAW. Overall, not a good sign of fan interest coming out of Survivor Series.

RAW was #2 on cable for the night, behind the NFL Monday Night Football game on ESPN. The game was a blowout, but drew 12.4 million viewers (down from 12.8 million last week).

Jim Ross Blog: Changes Taking Place In WWE, The “NXT 3”, Sammartino

5

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose & Roman Reigns: “Show closing segment…. @HeymanHustle promo/intro for @CMPunk was stellar. @Ryback22 interrupt shut Punk’s promo down but the actions of the ‘NXT in Black Boys’ stood out. I embrace their aggression and physicality directed at Ryback who took a helluva beating. Watch again in slo-mo if you think I’m embellishing. The three men comprised of @TheDeanAmbrose @RomanReigns and @WWWERollins did not become cannon fodder for the leviathan Ryback plus they kept a discernable level of mystique as their motives weren’t revealed nor did we hear them speak as of yet. All good in carving out an episodic TV storyline. ”

Paul Heyman Referencing Bruno Sammartino On RAW: “Heyman mentioning Bruno Sammartino was cool. Any discussion about the WWE Title can’t realistically take place without mentioning Bruno. I’d love to see Bruno inducted in the WWE HOF in 2013 in his house, Madison Square Garden, along with Bob Backlund, Mick Foley, among others that are very deserving. ”

Changes Taking Place In WWE: “It feels like positive changes are in play in WWE in what feels to be a definite, transitional period. There’s nothing wrong with being in a transitional period by the way. Lots of talent who have been groomed for main event opportunities are now being placed in the ‘on deck circle’ or so it seems. Their own, personal desire to take the next step isn’t all about WWE but, more often than not, the people that these individuals see in the mirror. By refusing to accept mediocrity and pushing, pulling, scratching and clawing through the clutter one increases their odds of making it. Granted the odds of becoming a bona fide main event performer in WWE are long to begin with but diligence and working through adversity (I know of what I speak on this one) greatly increases one’s chances for success. I’d almost compare today’s WWE to a major college athletic team or a pro franchise who is rebuilding around young, talented athletes, plus a few incumbents, who need to continue to push themselves in all phases of their game and not settle. Athletes who reside in their insulated ‘nests’ IE their comfort zones are problems that must be either solved or eliminated.”

“This transition is a long term fix but if the course is steered week in and week out the results will be the development of several talents who can add ‘new’ to broadcast and live event presentations.”
