Booker T Video Interview – The State Of WWE’s Tag Team Division, Life In Prison

2

The Score’s Arda Ocal (@arda_ocal) had a chance to speak with former World Heavyweight Champion and current General Manager of Smackdown, Booker T. Part one of the two-part interview has been posted (Part two comes Wednesday Aug. 29). Highlights from the interview are as follows:

On writing about his time in prison: “Just felt like I had to put it down on paper just so, maybe, some kid that finds themselves in the same situation that I was in, they can read the book and maybe come out on the other side, something quite like Booker T did.”

On the current state of the tag team division: “We’re trying to bring it back, we’re trying to revitalize the tag team division. Back in the day guys got into the business as tag teams….. we were formed when we first got there, we knew each other like the back of our hand, and that’s what’s different these days. You’ve got guys that’s getting into the business individually and not coming in together and knowing each other. Letting the fans know them as a tag team from the beginning and then parlaying their career into singles such as I did.”

Booker also comments on whether his past criminal life ever held him back in the wrestling business, what it takes to make it in WWE and how the organization should recruit talent.

The website says of Brock Lesnar’s second: “When running a company as wild and unpredictable as ECW, it’s safe to assume that, at some point, things will take a turn for the unexpected. Good thing that Paul Heyman was the driving force behind the Land of Extreme, then. The complete list is as follows: 20. Alberto Del Rio, 19. Michelle McCool, 18. Dean Douglas, 17. Wade Barrett, 16. Dean Malenko, 15. Irwin R. Schyster, 14. Antonio Cesaro, 13. The Grand Wizard, 12. Damien Sandow, 11. Mr. Perfect, 10. Eve, 9. The Genius, 8. Gordon Solie, 7. David Otunga, 6. JBL, 5. Mick Foley, 4. Matt Striker, 3. Triple H, 2. Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, 1. Paul Heyman.

Jerry Lawler Talks About CM Punk Attacking Him, Warrior Featured On WWE.com & More

13

– Friday’s 8/24 WWE Smackdown had 2,587,000 viewers, down from 2,612,000 the week before.

– The Ultimate Warrior is the current “Superstar Spotlight” on WWE.com. Warrior is also on the site . Warrior is also listed on WWE’s “15 Past Superstars That Should Get ONE MORE MATCH” list now on the site’s main page.

– The WWE website has an interview up with Jerry Lawler, who talks about CM Punk’s attack from last week’s RAW:

“It’s a sad day when you can’t have an opinion and speak your mind. CM Punk thinks he can speak his mind. He has an opinion that he is the best in the world and he has no problem with telling that to everybody. CM Punk and I obviously had a difference in opinion. He had a way of showing me what he thought about my opinion. I’ve been thinking a lot about it, and maybe this coming Monday night, I might show Punk what I think of his opinion.”

Chris Jericho Talks About His Contact Situation, Wrestling Dolph Ziggler & More

8

Chris Jericho was a guest on Live Audio Wrestling’s The LAW on Sunday night to promote Fozzy’s new album ‘Sin and Bones” and his WWE career. Here are some highlights of what Jericho said about:

His WWE Contract Situation: “I went to Connecticut to meet with Vince McMahon last year after SummerSlam, and my plan was to come back in December, do the month of vignettes, then work January to the end of May, and then in June we were supposed to embark on the tour for Sin and Bones, because originally it was supposed to come out in June. Then when I found out that the record wasn’t gonna come out until mid-August, I said, ‘Well, I’ll stay for another three months, until the end of August.’ Until SummerSlam, basically. I kind of re-signed and extended my deal for another three months at the beginning of May.”

His Match with Dolph Ziggler at SummerSlam: “They wanted to start the show off with a bang, and I don’t care if I go on first, last, in the middle, whatever. But if I’m going on first, I’m gonna be going out there to make a statement and kick it off with a bang, and I don’t want anybody to be able to follow it. I think the LA crowd was primed; SummerSlam is a big deal, they’ve promoted it and done a great job of making it the second biggest pay-per-view of the year, and the crowd was crazy. And honestly, it’s fun to kind of end off that last run as Y2J, as a good guy, after being the hated heel for basically the better part of four years.”

Young Talent Making It To The Next Level: “Guys have to step out and take a chance, but they’re not really encouraged to like it was in the old days, and I think there’s pros and cons to that. I think we’re seeing that in a lot of the characters that are on the show. But then suddenly you’ve got a guy like Damien Sandow who comes out and, against all odds, gets over with this character. Then once he starts getting the confidence for it, then he’s starting to take a chance, so you still can get that.

“How did I get into wrestling? With my grandma, my dad, and my aunt. You could go as family entertainment. The Attitude Era was a great time; if it was still going on, I’d be right in the middle of it still doing all the stuff that I used to do. But it changed, and that’s the way it is, so you must change with it. It’s still wrestling; it’s all about having great matches, great characters and great build-ups. It’s the same concept, it’s just that you can’t say ‘ass’ and ‘son of a b—h’ anymore. Well, if you can’t do a good program and not say ‘ass’ and ‘son of a b—h,’ then you don’t need to be working in this business anyway.”

You can catch The LAW every Sunday night at 11pm EST on TSN 1050 Toronto and online at liveaudiowrestling.com.
