Update On Randy Orton’s Injury & WWE Contract Status

19

Earlier this week, Randy Orton updated fans on the status of his back injury. He tweeted:

“… I herniated a disc (leaked disc fluid) between my L4-L5 in my lower back. Had som estrength loss in my left lower leg. Time off is to let the inflammation go down, and try and strengthen the muscles int lower back”

The injury is legitimate and is believed to have happened on the 12/19 RAW when Wade Barrett put him through a table. Orton’s rehab is said to be going well. The WWE website has an article up  with quotes from Orton’s doctor, Chris Amann, who says the pain and weakness in Orton’s leg is subsiding and a full recovery is expected.

In a sign of how much WWE values Orton’s services and views him as one of their franchise talents, his current contract has him locked in with WWE through 2019.

Major Concern In WWE Over The Launch Of The WWE Network

20
WWE Network

With the scheduled launch date for the WWE Network less than 3 months away, there is a great deal of concern in WWE as to whether the company will be ready in time. Getting clearances from cable and satellite providers is the number one issue, as well as whether they can line up sufficient quality programming. Many are fearing the Network will be perceived as a flop right out of the gate.

There are plans mapped out for the first day of programming to focus on WrestleMania, but there is still a great deal of work that needs to be done by April 1st.

As for WWE 24/7 Classics On Demand, that service is set to end on March 31st. WWE first notified providers that it would end on January 1st, but there are existing contracts in place that will keep the on demand channel on the air until the end of March.

Kevin Nash Challenges Ultimate Warrior: MMA Rules For $100k

Kevin Nash Shoots On Warrior

Kevin Nash has challenged Ultimate Warrior to a fight.

Ultimate took a shot at Kevin Nash this week on his Twitter. When asked by a fan why Warrior doesn’t dye his hair and have another run in WWE like Kevin Nash, Warrior replied:

“I’m not a dickhead who thrives on stealing the limelight from young guys.”

Nash tweeted the following on Wednesday night, issuing a challenge to a 3-round MMA fight with $100,000 on the line:

“Never realized I had a problem with Jim (Warrior). Seemed to get along fine in Scottsdale. Come on my clown, turn that frown upside down. A true warrior never turns down a challenge. Put up a 100K. I’ll do the same. 3 rounds. mma rules. winner take all. I’m talking shoot, not sports entertainment.”

“Jim Hellwig needs to put up or shut the f**k up. Day before Mania in Miami area. Warrior will have to pass all hiv and hep a b and c tests. I’ll do the same. I’m tired of this guy talking sh** about the boys & me. When they stop it or you tap, i’ll quit, or you can apologize like the c**t you are.”

Gabe Spolsky has posted the following on Twitter:

“@UltimateWarrior @RealKevinNash if you guys want to beat each other up we’ll gladly let you do it in DGUSA. We have show in Miami on 3/31”

Jim Ross Blog: Chris Jericho’s Return On RAW, His New Look

17

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Chris Jericho’s Return on RAW: “For the record, I liked it. Also, to be honest, about half way through the presentation, I was having my doubts. Then I saw what I perceived that Jericho was attempting to accomplish and thought that his presentation was unique and certainly unpredictable …

“By saying absolutely nothing and by using facial expressions and body English, Jericho actually said volumes. At least that’s how I felt after the segment ended. The fans in Memphis seemed to be getting peeved at Jericho who they had just cheered moments earlier. Was that the intent? Stay tuned.”

His New Look Goatee: “I showed up on Fox Sports Oklahoma’s TV broadcast of the @okcthunder game Tuesday night sporting a new, gray goatee. Why? Well, the gray aspect is easy…I’m a ‘mature gentleman.’ (No jokes please.) The reason I grew the goatee was simply because I hadn’t shaved in about a week or so during the holidays and when I decided to shave I thought, what the hell, let’s see what a goatee would look like as I have never displayed any facial hair to speak of in my life.”

Backstage News From RAW: Script Changes, Jericho, Punk, Cena

38

We’ve got a number of backstage news items from Monday’s RAW Supershow from Memphis:

– The script for the show was changed several times throughout the day and was not finalized until around 7pm local time.

– Chris Jericho’s WWE return was not on the booking sheets that were handed out before Monday’s RAW from Memphis. Once Jericho arrived backstage, there was no major effort made to keep his presence a secret.

– As previously reported, Brodus Clay was backstage and there were plans to have him finally debut on television in a squash match, but his segment was bumped due to time constraints. Interim RAW GM John Laurinaitis teased on Twitter that Clay’s debut being pushed off again was all part of a plan – and the constant delays will be turned into a storyline. The plan is for Clay to eventually debut as an indestructible monster, similar to how Mark Henry was booked prior to his injury. It remains to be seen whether Clay will be on television before the Royal Rumble.

– CM Punk was hurting when he returned backstage after his match against Dolph Ziggler. There is talk of him taking some time off to rest up.

– The angle with Kane coming from under the ring was written about a week ago but officials didn’t know how they would get to it until the day of the show. The six-man elimination match was put together at the last minute. Officials wanted John Cena in the closing segment so there would be an “Indiana Jones-like” cliffhanger to end the show.

Why WWE Didn’t Fly Chris Jericho On A Private Jet To Raw

55

WWE officials ultimately decided not to fly Chris Jericho on a private jet to Memphis, Tennessee—the site of Monday’s Raw SuperShow—because they felt the plan they had devised to keep his return from being spoiled was infallible.

WWE decided to have Jericho fly into Nashville International Airport on Sunday instead of Memphis on Sunday or Monday, have a limousine pick him up and hide him until showtime.

“They didn’t figure somebody would take a photo of him at an airport 220 miles away,” Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer stated on the F4WOnline.com message board.

The photograph was published online Monday morning, which Jericho vehemently refuted.

“Apparently, I’ve been cloned… or somebody has started a great rumour,” he wrote on Twitter.

He then posted several photoshopped images of himself at various places including Egypt, Paris, Gettysburg and Kim Jong-il’s funeral.

Backstage Jericho Interview, JR Calling NBA Game, Clay

23

– The WWE website attempted to interview Chris Jericho backstage at Monday’s RAW, but did not get much out of him. Jericho continued the “silent treatment” we saw on television, smiling and ignoring the questions asked of him. When asked if he plans to enter the Royal Rumble, Jericho paused, turned on the lights on his jacket, and walked away. To view the video, visit WWE.com.

– The latest on Brodus Clay’s status is that WWE is holding off on his debut until the Royal Rumble.

– WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, who is celebrating his 60th birthday today, will be calling an NBA basketball game tonight between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Portland Trail Blazers. Ross tweeted on Tuesday afternoon:
