8

Award winning photographer George Tahinos has posted an epic photo gallery on Paul Heyman’s “Heyman Hustle” website featuring over 130 photos from the greatest ROH Title Match in history, the amazing encounter in which Davey Richards defeated “American Wolves” tag team partner Eddie Edwards at The Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

Richards emotional title victory happened in front of 2,500 screaming fans on the most recent ROH iPPV show, “Best in the World.” The show was the most viewed Ring of Honor event in history in both live event attendance and on worldwide PPV.

The match, which many are calling the greatest title match in company history, featured tons of near-falls and what can only be described as a classic title match style. The post-match celebration featured Richards surrounded by his training team and Eddie Edwards. Davey tearfully thanked the fans, his team, and his deceased grandparents in an emotional moment that stamped this as a classic moment in pro wrestling.

CM Punk Legitimately Leaving WWE After Money in the Bank

44

A WWE spokesman noted to GLAAD in their response to CM Punk uttering an anti-gay slur during yesterday’s Raw live event in Australia that the wrestler is legitimately leaving the organization following the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event on July 18.

OpposingViews.com printed the following in their article: “WWE officials also told GLAAD this morning that CM Punk’s contract will expire in a few weeks, he will not be immediately renewed, and he will no longer be with WWE as of July 18. A spokesperson told us “this departure is not part of a storyline. He is contractually leaving the organization.

“A spokesperson for the WWE told us “We are taking this very seriously.”

OpposingViews.com also notes that GLAAD provided training to members of WWE’s editorial staff and writing team in May. The media monitoring organization is also in discussions with WWE to provide similar training seminars to on-camera talent.

EXCLUSIVE: Major Heat On WWE Exec Over Punk’s Contract

35

Sources within WWE have exclusively revealed to SEScoops.com that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon and Triple H are said to be very angry at talent relations executive John Laurinaitis over his failure to re-sign CM Punk. We have been told the heat on Laurinaitis is serious because this is seen as his second serious failure this year, with the failure to keep Chris Jericho on the roster falling on Laurinaitis’ shoulders as well.

One WWE source says “this is the same job JR had for years, and it’s a heat-magnet because you’re trapped between Vince’s expectations and the talents who want to break away from the brutal schedule.”

Another company source told us “Laurinaitis has made millions in salary and stock options. He’s expected to perform for that money, and produce results. Right now, he’s not getting done the job Vince expects of him!”

Kelly Kelly Interviewed At E3 By UFC Legend For WWE ’12

4

The very first legend of the Octagon, Royce Gracie was at the E3 convention representing the UFC brand, when he found out WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio and WWE Diva Kelly Kelly were promoting the new marketing initiative for THQ’s WWE ’12 Video Game, which replaces the Smackdown vs Raw franchise.

The marketing slogan for the new brand is Bigger, Badder, Better …

THQ has taken away the use of the right stick for wrestling moves and have brought back the face buttons as the main focus of the wrestling action. The list of controls:

A-  Grapple
B-  Irish Whip/Pin
X- Striking
Y- Finishers
LB- Action Button
RB- “New” Limb Targeting System
LT- Running
RT- Counters
DPad- Taunts
LS-Move
RS- Switching Opponents Position
LT+RT- Dragging Opponent

For those fans who have been playing the WWE Smackdown vs Raw video games, THQ promises it will be easy to get accustomed to these new controls rather quickly. Of course,if you prefer, you can switch back to last year’s controls, but why not go with innovative and progress?

There’s also the new “Breaking Point” submission system. THQ has created a virtual mini-game in which you and your opponent mash the face buttons or move the joysticks as the word “Breaking Point” fills up. If it fills up, your character will submit. Bye bye playa. Or player!  You will also have the ability to drag your body towards the ropes to try and execute a rope break. Of course, the opponent has until 5 to break.

So far, the new game and branding have been met with stellar reviews. And when the original legend of the Octagon Royce Gracie endorses your product, you know you’re onto something special.

Claudio Castagnoli Talks About Kings Of Wrestling to WWE

12

Ring of Honorstar Claudio Castagnoli was interviewed by Arda Ocal and Jimmy Korderas this week for the Right After Wrestling radio show, which you can hear at TheScore.com.

Castagnoli, who recently had a WWE tryout along with his Kings of Wrestling tag team partner Chris Hero, had this to say about the possibility of working for WWE:

“I think I would prefer to go as a package with Chris Hero. But I would be comfortable working there on my own. We have a the unique ability to perform in a singles environment and in a tag environment. I think we definitely have very good chemistry and we have greater potential as a team.”

Many wrestlers who are successful in ROH or TNA never catch on in WWE the way many fans would hope. When asked whether the Kings of Wrestling would do well in WWE, Claudio said:

“I think we could survive in the right circumstances. We have the tools to flourish in any wrestling company. We both have unique abilities to talk. Both Chris (Hero) and I are both really good singles wrestlers and tag wrestlers so I think we bring a lot to the table there. And the next step is to bring in actual teams (into the WWE) and not just two singles-wrestlers coming together. That’s what’s missing – actual teams that look alike and seem to have been a team for a long time.”

Multiple WWE Stars Battling Injuries, Ryder Appears On Raw

14

— Multiple WWE stars are battling injuries, according to a report on PWInsider.com.

NXT contestant Connor O’Brian is nursing a knee injury as he was icing it a lot at last week’s television tapings.

The Great Khali is also hurt, which has hindered his mobility—moreso.

Kane is dealing with various minor injuries, although he’s not letting it effect his in-ring work.

— Last night on Raw, Zack Ryder appeared on stage following David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty’s victory over Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov. Ryder delivered his trademark catchphrase. Regarding the cryptic appearance, WWE.com wrote: “Speaking of oddballs, The New Nexus’ victory celebration was cut short by Long Island Iced Z himself, Zack Ryder. The self-proclaimed “Internet Champion” left Otunga & McGillicutty with a cryptic warning as only he can deliver: “Woo woo woo, you know it.” Just what are they supposed to know?”

— Jerry Sags of The Nasty Boys turns 47 years old today while Hillbilly Jim turns 59.

JR Blog: Australian Tour, HBK’s Hunting Show, Bret Hart

3

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update. Ross spoke at length about a number of topics, including Saturday’s UFC 132 pay-per-view You can read the entire blog over at  JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights from JR’s 4th of July update:

WWE’s “Down Under” Tour Completed: WWE Raw talents are finishing up a 5 day tour [on Sunday]. This tour will generate well over $3M in ticket sales revenue notwithstanding what the WWE will garner at their merchandise stands. Two live events had whopping 1.1M gates.

Bret Hart: Happy belated birthday to our good friend and WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart whose B-Day was yesterday if I’m not mistaken. @BretHart was a pleasure to see when last we were in Stamford together for the HBK/Hitman DVD. Bret looks great and seems to be very happy. He will always be one of my favorite wrestlers and Bret is often overlooked in how much of a positive influence Hitman had on Steve Austin’s career in WWE. These two had some amazing bouts including one of my all time favorites at WM13.

Shawn Michaels’ Hunting Show: Another emailer took me to task about my opinion on hunting and particularly endorsing Shawn Michaels new adventure/hunting show on the Outdoor Life Network. I assume it’s a generational thing as my Dad used to hunt and we processed and ate everything he harvested over the course of the year from Venison Sausage to quail. Dad’s hunting helped our struggling family with our grocery bill and provided a source of lean, protein to supplement the beef, pork and chicken we raised on our farm. Another issue is the over population of some species. Either hunters are allowed to harvest these animals in a systematic, controlled manner or a respective state’s wildlife department will handle it.

Low Ki Interview: His TNA Return, Why It Didn’t Work In WWE

18

Former two-time TNA X-Division Champion, former Ring of Honor World Champion, & former WWE Superstar, Low-Ki, was the featured guest on this week’s live edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. You can feel The Mayhem live every Monday evening at Mondaynightmayhem.com.

You can listen to audio from Low Ki’s appearance on Monday Night Mayhem by clicking here. (MP3)

Here are some highlights from the interview:

His mindset leading into his Ultimate X Contract Match at TNA/Impact Wrestling’s Destination X Pay-Per-View: “My mindset is go hard or go home…that simple. Same mindset I had going into NXT. I don’t see myself as a trial guy, although that’s where I’m at currently with Impact Wrestling. I’m accomplished, I’m credible. I probably shouldn’t be in this, but this is what I’m involved in at this moment, so make an example of these guys and show them that I sacrificed a lot of my life to be at a level in this profession.”

His thoughts about his experience as a WWE Superstar and why he believes it did not work out for him in the long run: “It’s simple: I’m a professional wrestler. They’re looking for entertainers. They’re looking for people who are going to make fools out of themselves in order to entertain people. That’s not me. I’ve performed for nearly 15 years, because I wanted to become a professional wrestler. I wanted to earn the respect of the audience, people who paid their hard-earned money to see professional wrestling and not insult their intelligence. Unfortunately, that’s not what the WWE presents. This is not an instance of me being bitter and angry at them, I knew what I getting into when I got there.”

If he has been approached to return to Ring of Honor and whether or not he could envision himself being a part of ROH’s long-term future with Sinclair Broadcasing: “With Sinclair Broadcasting becoming the new owners of Ring of Honor, I haven’t been approached. I’m always open for discussion, because I am a businessman. From what I have heard, because I am unfamiliar with the Ring of Honor product currently, I can present a very fresh match up for a large amount of wrestlers on that roster. On top of that, I have a history with the company, so just simply thinking, it would be a progressive step if we could negotiate business. But again, I haven’t been contacted by them, so if the opportunity presents itself, I am open for discussion.”

Kingston Recalls Being Bullied At School, Cornette Thanks Punk

18

The Sydney Morning Herald has an article on Kofi Kingston, who recalls being a victim of bullying when he was a child.

“When I went to school I was definitely bullied,” Kingston told the children who are part of Underdogs, a Sydney, Australia based anti-bullying support group. “I wasn’t the biggest guy, I grew up in a town [in America] that was affluent – a lot of people had a lot – and while my family wasn’t what you’d call not well off, we didn’t have what others had.

“So, it was tough. For me, growing up was just a matter of dealing with it. You’d try to fight it but there were some days I didn’t want to go to school and come across certain people because I didn’t want the conflict.”

The article on Kingston’s anti-bullying efforts is available here.

— Jim Cornette wrote the following regarding CM Punk mentioning Ring of Honor last Monday on Raw: “@CMPunk Recognizes the best wrestling in the world when he sees it.Thanks Punk. #bitw #ROHbest #findroh.”

Billy Gunn Says He Should Be In HOF, Criticizes WWE Product

40

During an interview with The Kingston Wigg Standard, former WWE star Billy Gunn was asked if he’s ever looked back and realized how significant his place in WWE history is.

“No I really don’t,” Gunn said. “I’m extremely glad that I was part of that and that I had a partner and people around me that we could reach that level.

“I guess the only thing I really think of, is that when people look back, or think about me, that I just did the best that I could. It really wasn’t all about me. It was about making other people good, or helping other people, or that at least my work was good and not crappy.”

Gunn also feels he, Road Dogg, and Sean Waltman deserve a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame.

“I think we do,” said Gunn. “I still think we have a place up there to work, not work wrestling-wise, but work to help the younger guys coming up. Do I think we deserve the hall of fame? Yeah, of course we do.”

Gunn also believes he can bring back an element of fun back to WWE, something he feels is lacking today. The article notes that with the recent returns of 1990s stars such as The Rock and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin to WWE, Gunn’s return could be inevitable.

“People are not really interested in that show too much,” he said, referring to Monday Night Raw. “I don’t want to say that for a fact, but there are really no stand-out guys. I mean, how long has John Cena been carrying that company? Forever.

“They’re trying to get some of these guys back that the older generation, or the ’90s generation, wants to see. There is really nobody on that show anymore that they want to see who is really a standout. Face it, The Rock, Stone Cold, DX, not only was it the wrestling, but it was the skits, or the attitude and all of that. They were just fun to watch. Not only the wrestling part, but the funny stuff. You never knew what we were going to do. They tuned in every Monday night just to see what kind of silly s–t we were going to pull off.”

Gunn also discussed burning bridges with WWE officials after he was released in November 2004 and said he should have been mad at himself. The full article is available here.

“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero Posts Blog Regarding His TNA Status

10

“The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero posted a lengthy blog on his official website concerning his status with TNA Wrestling.

PSW: The State of Pope In TNA

Pope wanted to share this with The Congregation as what I’m about to say is the very real, and sincere just as the message that I’m about to refer to that I received on TheElijahExpress.com:

While reading my Private Messages via the TheElijahExpress.com/Forum, I came across this message from a young man who voiced his opinion about Impact Wrestling and the current treatment of yours truly. This individual wrote in a manner that caused his words to be felt as if he were speaking in front of me. To sum it up, he stated that he hadn’t watched TNA’s Impact Wrestling since the battle royal a couple of months ago. He said he refused to watch now because of Pope’s current treatment and under-utilization on the show.

As Pope continued to read, I began to feel this great weight fall upon my shoulders, and it then became somewhat of a burden. Why one may ask?? Well, it’s simple: I aspire to be that ONE positive influence on young and old alike, to encourage them to aim higher, to let them know that anything is possible, and as the old adage goes, “Hard work will pay off.” Trust me; I do know that it will! Heck, it already has to be exact. BUT the burden rest with knowing that many (not just the kid who wrote this letter to me) around the world email Pope on a regular basis asking the very same thing: “What’s going on with TNA’s treatment of you. Last year this time you were super hot….. (fill in the blank as you know the rest.)”

To be honest, Pope knows not. What I do know is that I do what is required of me, and Pope does it well. I’m not involved in, nor do I seek to be in any backstage clique. I don’t play politics, and I don’t kiss @ss. I show up to work every day with a smile on my face, respecting my peers, and a “What’s Up Daddeh” welcome to all whom crosses paths with Pope. Much like many of you who continue to remind Pope, I worked my butt off, got close to grabbing the brass ring, got injured, came back, and here we are today. I won’t even mention my feud with Sommore Joe, or that in the midst of confusing many watching, Pope and Joe were still able to be the highest rated quarter hour on the show during the “Pope-Joe-Pig” segment, even if many never understood why we were feuding. (Side note: Being one of prophetic capability, one would think that Pope would’ve saw this coming, Ha!)

Here’s my point, Pope always look on the bright side of things, and throughout whatever hardship Pope encounters I attempt to remain positive through it all, or at least THINK positive knowing that GREATER awaits Pope. So as heavy as Pope’s heart had become after reading that young man’s email, I say to all of you that support me day in and day out, “I’m Sorry.” If you feel that I’ve let you down, or that I am letting you down, “I’m sorry.” However, know that Pope is STILL PIMP’N, that NEVER changed; It appears that plans have changed as that’s the power of the mighty pencil. It’s mightier than Pope’s ability, or your tweets, or emails. That’s just the way it is. However, don’t think for one second that YOUR VOICE doesn’t count, and do know that I will do everything within my power to achieve that ultimate goal, and that is to etch my name in the history books as the 1st African American TNA World Heavyweight Champion. Pope promises to continue working hard, and to persevere as I wish to EARN my keep, much like many before Pope which includes the likes of Styles and Joe. And while I speak of them, let Pope say this; I may not be an AJ Styles (who is truly Phenomenal and gave Pope his Greatest Match EVER), and Pope may not be a Samoa Joe (one intense, agile, and talented big man); But for the record, they’ll NEVER be “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero!

And in closing, know that Pope’s a team player and supports his company 100% as I feel we have the greatest assemble of talented wrestlers worldwide….AND to those that write in to bury Vinnie “you know who”… Trust Pope when I tell ya, THAT GUY is to Pope as a bird handler is to a caged dove that palms it, releases it, and says, “Go do what you were meant to do…Fly and Be Free!” That’s no B.S, that’s just Pope keeping it REAL! It may take some time, but Pope do believe that I’ll get there, and when I do, it will be because of YOU and I made it happen together. I hope this answers a many of your questions and concerns, and Pope truly THANK YOU, The Congregation for your unwavering support.

Until Next Time “If you can’t Change the people around you, Then CHANGE the people around you! ~PHS

John Cena Talks About His Upcoming Match With CM Punk

41

WWE Champion John Cena was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune this week to discuss the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view event which takes place from the Windy City on Sunday, July 17th.

With CM Punk’s upcoming departure from WWE, his industry-rattling shoot promo from Monday’s RAW and the disciplinary ramification that followed, the WWE title match between him and Cena is now looking like a must-see match.

Cena tells the Tribune that his match with Punk is still on, but there’s still enough time before the 17th for Punk to do something stupid:

“From what I understand, he’s suspended, but I think the match will happen. (Punk) reached an agreement to not talk badly about WWE. Technically, it’s two weeks before Money in the Bank, so he’s still got two weeks to screw it up for himself.”

Cena also put over the significance and magnitude of MITB, insisting anything can happen:

“WWE has a lot of events, but rarely do you see something this controversial and hostile. I think people will talk about Money in the Bank for years to come. It will be a great moment for Chicago. A guy like CM Punk on live TV, you don’t know what he’ll do. I’m prepared for anything.”

JR Blog: Savage’s Cause of Death, HBK & Triple H Hunting

2

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Randy Savage’s Cause Of Death: “Randy Savage’s death confirmed as a heart ailment. Apparently Macho Man’s heart was somewhat enlarged and he had some artery issues. As his brother Lanny said, at least Randy went quickly and did not suffer.”

“It’s always amazed me why so many athletes over the years don’t remain informed on their own health with regular doctor’s visits especially regarding one’s ticker. I do not know Randy’s situation nor am I referring particularly to him when I say that many wrestlers that I have known over the years have had a ‘bullet proof’ mentality and most rarely did not do annual stress tests, etc while being quick on the trigger to self diagnose a grocery list of ailments to facilitate meds to keep them ‘comfortable’ and to ‘be able to provide for their families.”

What Makes A Wrestling Superstar: “To me, the bottom line regarding a successful wrestler is charisma and athletic talent no matter one’s size. Plus, when a personal issue is well established in that mix, then and only then is there a chance to create a emotional investment from the consumers. Lots of elements have to come together to achieve the proper formula and as I have said and I believe the business is ripe for self motivated, aggressive talents to raise their game, get noticed and take the ball from the guy who’s holding it.”

HBK & Triple H Hunting Together: “HHH went on an alligator hunt with HBK this week for an episode of Shawn’s Outdoor Life Network show with an air date TBA. ‘The Game and The Gator’ should be the title of that broadcast. I’ll stick to watching ‘Swamp People’ and leave the Gator hunting to others.”
