Backstage News On Triple H & Stephanie McMahon

16

Stephanie McMahon has been less involved with the creative content of WWE programming than many expected her to be at this point. She took maternity leave following the birth of her third child in August and has largely worked via telecommuting since that time. One company source said Paul Levesque (a/k/a Triple H) appears more creatively involved than he has ever been after his promotion in the fall to Vince McMahon’s Senior Advisor.

Though Levesque does not attend creative meetings, he is more involved in the creative process and has a lot of stroke in producer meetings. He also filled in as a show runner when Vince McMahon missed a few recent television tapings.

“I would say Vince McMahon is the executive show runner and Hunter is the associate show runner,” said one WWE source. “He’s the apprentice.”

WWE Courting Sting, Backstage Quip On Kong Joining WWE

41

The Sun has posted an article claiming that WWE is plotting to swoop the multi-time World Champion from TNA Wrestling. They say with WrestleMania taking place in WCW’s former home of Atlanta this year, Vince McMahon wants Sting to be a part of the show and inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Though still listed on the TNA Wrestling website, Sting is presently a free agent after his contract with the organization expired late last year.

— The news of Awesome Kong’s recent arrest in Hillsborough County, Florida for driving without a valid license led one company source to quip, “Since Kong got arrested in Tampa I’d say that’s proof she got a WWE gig, because you have to get arrested in Tampa to work for WWE.”

— Last night’s episode of WWE Superstars on WGN America, which featured Daniel Bryan and Mark Henry vs. Ted DiBiase and Tyson Kidd in the main event, garnered a 0.58 cable rating with 588,000 viewers. Last week’s show drew a 0.67.

The midnight replay did a 0.16 with 166,000 viewers.

16

Social media news website Mashable.com has announced their “2010 Mashable Awards” winners, which recognizes “the very best of tech and the web.” With over 1.3 million votes cast, both WWE and John Cena were among the award winners, alongside Twitter, Google’s Android mobile operating system and Apple’s iPhone.

It also posted a list lesser known facts about WWE and inaccuracies and corrections to media portrayals from across the web with facts accompanying the claims. The campaign included videos with its superstars as well as the likes of President Barack Obama.”

Most Influential Social Good Champion: John Cena

ohn Cena is a WWE personality and actor who leverages his social media presence and influence for good. He’s been heavily involved with the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 2004, granting the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. He’s earned the foundation’s highest honor, the Chris Greicius Award and was later named Wish Ambassador by the organization. JR Blog: Hogan’s Rough 2010, Jack Swagger, Talent Scouting

6

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Hulk Hogan: “Hulk had a hellaciously challenging 2010 and here’s hoping that he has a much better 2011. Losing one’s Mom is a challenging piece of business. I was in the UK for a WWE event there when I got word that my Mom had died suddenly at age 64.”

Jack Swagger: “WWE is taping Smackdown in Tulsa at the new, tricked out BOK Center on Tuesday January 18. I did some media for the event Thursday. Lots of Jack Swagger talk during the interview. I hope that Swagger has a big 2011 and feel that he is a long way away from his peak or approaching his potential. The former Sooner is a superb, natural athlete. The writer also asked me about the soon to be available OU Sooner Football radio gig of which is still on my ‘dream job’ list but as I have mentioned before I think it’s a long shot for me.”

Scouting New Young Talent: “Yours truly will be headed to FCW next week to meet with and observe WWE rookies. This is one of my favorite trips to make these days as the future of WWE largely rests in the developmental program where the evolution of developing new stars begins in earnest.”

As always, visit JRsBarBQ.com for JR’s great line of BBQ products.

MAILBAG: Should Benoit Have Made WWE’s Top 50 Greatest List?

48

SEScoops Mailbag for January 7th

(submit YOUR questions to [email protected])

Q: Despite all the controversy surrounding his last run, do you think there may be a possibility of bringing Mark Magnus (Muhammad Hassan) back to the WWE? – David Foster

A: If Mark Copani wanted to return to WWE, he’d have to work his way through developmental to get another shot. He made the most of his controversial character before UPN (the former home of Smackdown) ratcheted up the heat and forced his demise. He then chose to leave wrestling, move to Los Angeles and pursue a career in acting. As far as I know, he has no desire to return to wrestling at this time.

Q: When ECW started up again, it was full of big power players like RVD, Big Show, Kurt Angle and Chris Beniot. They later added Test, Kevin Thorn and Hardcore Holly, all of whom were getting big pushes. 1) What was the reason for Kurt leaving WWE? 2) What happened to Big Show after losing the title to Bobby Lashley at December to Dismember 2006? 3) If the Benoit tragedy didn’t occur, along with the releases of Van Dam, Sabu, Kurt and Show, would ECW have lasted a little longer? – Shane

A: Angle had failed at least one drug test and, physically and mentally, was an absolute mess at this point. Some of his WWE colleagues at that time would often speak of bewildering text messages they’d receive from Kurt, not unlike Chris Benoit in his final days. WWE thought he might die on their watch and granted his release, which he had asked for. In hindsight, it was the best thing that could of happened for the man. As for Big Show, his back was in really bad shape at the time and he was simply burned out and needed a break. When he returned in 2008, he had lost well over 100 pounds and was much healthier, in large part due to the boxing training he had been doing in preparation for a career that didn’t pan out. Lastly, the ECW experiment was doomed to fail the way it was executed by WWE. Perhaps if Benoit had not killed himself and ECW originals like RVD and Sabu were kept around it would have survived longer, but ultimately, SyFy didn’t like the ratings it was pulling and would have ended it anyway.

Q: I understand that during the invasion angle, WWE kept all WCW titles and afterwards the WCW Title became the World Heavyweight Title, but why did they only change the title name and not the design? Also, where is Gangrel these days? – Michael

A: Why would you want to change the design of the belt? It’s such a beautiful prop, as Vince Russo might say. In reality, I think it had more to do with what that design represented to many people (Ric Flair’s Big Gold Belt), which believe it or not, was still something of value and class. As for Gangrel, he still wrestles on the independent scene and, in 2007, he signed on to direct 12 films for New Porn Order. That’s a lot of porn.

Q: How long does AJ Styles have left on TNA contract? Do you ever see AJ Styles coming to WWE? – John Corona

A: I don’t know how much time Styles has left on his TNA deal, but I would be shocked if were to bolt for WWE. He was offered a developmental deal there many years ago and actually turned it down because he didn’t think his style would have meshed well with what they expected out of talent. I’d have to agree that he made the right move at the time. He’d likely make more money and would gain greater notoriety working on WWE television, but he seems happy in TNA and has been the backbone of that company from day one. As sad as this sounds, WWE probably wouldn’t know what to do with him.

Q: There is a rumor about the reason Randy Savage is never mentioned for the WWE Hall of Fame is because of alleged reports of him wanting to sleep with or having slept with a young Stephanie McMahon. Do you think this is true and what is your opinion about this situation? – Brianne In Lafayette, Louisiana

A: This story is so old, I’m starting to think the Egyptians started the rumor while they were building the pyramids, just to amuse themselves and kill time. No, I don’t believe this to be true. If I were Vince and believed this to be true, you would have found a Macho skull and various appendages floating in a river by now. Though he may not (yet) be in the Hall of Fame, it’s not as though Savage has been erased from history like Chris Benoit. His name is often mentioned on TV, he was recently included in the company’s list of top 50 all-time great performers and they even released a DVD of his matches this past year. Let’s put this shit to bed now, shall we?

Q: With John Cena injured, is his storyline with CM Punk compromised??? Will he be able to wrestle in time for WrestleMania??? Also, WWE show sales (PPVs) have decreased a lot since 2009. What might be the cause of this??? – Dashing Flint

A: John Cena will be fine for WrestleMania. In fact, he’ll be fine for the Royal Rumble, too. As for the reason for the decrease in PPV buys, take your pick. The rise of UFC, too many PPV shows, not enough time in between PPV shows to adequately promote them, turning your top play-by-play voice into a heel character when he is responsible for selling you on the shows, giving away the same matches for free the next night on Raw, charging too much money, the creation of gimmick PPV’s, too much comedy, etc. As you can see, there’s no one, singular reason.

Q: Why did WWE erase everything about Chris Benoit? He wasn’t mentioned in the Top 50 Superstars of All Time DVD, he wasn’t even mentioned in WWE.com’s top 10 submission specialists countdown and I can’t even click on his name to see which date he won a title. Just because he had issues in his life and murdered his family and himself doesn’t mean he wasn’t a great perfomer. He gave 5 star matches many times and should be considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. – Kreten Skrete

A: If you can’t click on his name on their title history pages, then I admit that’s rather ridiculous. Aside from that, I’m fine with WWE’s decision to exclude him from any lists or countdowns. You really thought they would include a man who murdered his WIFE and SON in their own countdown of the top 50 GREATEST wrestlers in history? A man who, from a public relations perspective, caused as much anguish and embarrassment for that company as he did? The man was great, no doubt, perhaps the best, but he’s poison now. He went and flushed his own legacy down the toilet. Vince McMahon did not do that. He did. It’s the same reason he’s never going into the Hall of Fame, nor should he. There are just some things in life you simply cannot ignore when it comes to separating the person from the performer. Karma is a bitch.

Q: Do you think that the Vince McMahon wants TNA to succeed to some extent? I mean he’s openly admitted that he LOVES competition. But do you think he’d give TNA a little bit of chance to succeed and actually compete with his product? – Fabian Robullozo

A: I really don’t think he does. Most times, when a TNA performer attains some level of success and jumps (or jumps back) to WWE, the manner in which they are then booked makes it almost seem like they are being punished for doing well there. So it’s not as though Vince wants guys to get over in TNA so he can bring them over and have a ready-made star to thrust into the main event. Plus, if he wanted TNA to succeed so much, he wouldn’t be so strict with those 90-day clauses he puts in everyone’s contract. If he could buy them tomorrow, raid some talent and retain rights to their copyrights and video library, he would do it without hesitation.

Q: How come in the 1990’s WWE said Chris Jericho was from Canada, but in the 2000’s they said he was from New York? – Brian

A: It was a Vince McMahon call. They were doing the same thing with Benoit around this time where they stopped billing him from Edmonton, Alberta and instead started billing him from his current hometown of Atlanta, GA. He didn’t want them billed from Canada because he thought it might affect their heat. Basically, it’s proof that Vince started losing his mind over a decade ago. These days, he just bans the use of the word “belt” and apparently hates the city of Wilkes Barre (on Raw last Monday, the wrestlers were instructed to say the name of the state – Pennsylvania – and not the city where John Cena suffered his injury against Wade Barrett).

Q: I’m watching TNA and wandering if Jeff Jarrett is so good at MMA, why does he not join UFC?? He would have a distinct advantage if he utilized his pro wrestling moves, like the Stroke, piledriver and suplex. – Eric Fuchs

A: Cocaine’s a hell of a drug.

Big Update On The Fan Suing The Rock, Triple H & WWE

16

Earlier this week, wrestling fan Ronald Basham sued World Wrestling Entertainment, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Paul “Triple H” Levque, claiming he was injured while in the audience at WWE’s Judgement Day pay-per-view back in 2000.

During the main event of that show, The Rock battled Triple H in a street fight, with the two wrestlers brawling into the crowd. Basham alleges that he was injured during the brawl and says WWE failed properly provide adequate security for its customers. Both Johnson and Levesque have been accused of “reckless, willful and wanton conduct.” He claims to have suffered lingering injuries over the past decade as a result of the incident and recently had knee surgery, for which he’s seeking compensation.

Well, according to TMZ.com, Basham’s leg couldn’t have been too badly hurt by The Rock and Triple H, because he played high school football and has participated in stock car racing for years. Up until his lawsuit was filed, his Facebook page featured various photos of him raacing cars, including pictures of him crashing into a wall.

Basham’s lawyer tells TMZ.com, “He has a long medical history with knee problems and as far as I know his knee was never injured [from racing cars].”

Considering his high school football career and his habit of crashing race cars into walls, it seems he will have a difficult time proving WWE, The Rock and Triple H are the ones responsible for his recent knee surgery.

Nice try though!

Update On Movie Theaters Showing WrestleMania In 3D

21

With the increasing popularity of 3D feature films and 3D televisions becoming more accessible to consumers, WWE has been working on producing its own 3D content. According to a reliable source, WWE is negotiating with Fathom Events to air this year’s WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view in 3D in movie theaters across the United States.

While the idea of WrestleMania 3D sounds pretty amazing, fans should not get their hopes up just yet – as the two parties have still not yet come to terms on [what else] money.

According to a new report from the Chicago Independent Press, WWE wants 47 percent of PPV revenue for 3D buys, which is standard for WWE PPVs, but Fathom reportedly wants a larger cut. WWE also wants 60-70 percent of revenue from theaters but Fathom isn’t willing to give that much away.

The negotiations have reportedly stalled and with WrestleMania coming up in just 3 months, the window opportunity for both sides to reach an agreement is closing.

Is Hardy Now Free To Join TNA?, Ex-WWE Diva Offered Tryout

9

— Matt Hardy stated in a recent interview with Fanhouse.com that World Wrestling Entertainment released him from his contract two weeks before it was officially announced on WWE.com on Oct. 15. Providing he’s telling the truth, his ninety-day no-compete clause would have began during the first week of October and thus would be technically free to appear at Sunday’s TNA Genesis pay-per-view. However, one TNA source said there has been no indication that Hardy will be Immortal’s handpicked opponent against Rob Van Dam at the event. (source: Pro Wrestling Torch)

— Former WWE talent Angela Fong (a/k/a Savannah) was asked yesterday on Twitter if she has had any contact with TNA Wrestling, to which she replied she had. The former WWE Diva revealed being offered a tryout by the organization in October.

“I was offered a tryout in Oct, but I had to respectfully decline,” she wrote. “I was so busy at the time that I wouldn’t be able to commit fully…but never say never! You never know for the future.”

Kingston Discusses WWE’s PG Product, AJ Lee Cuts Heel Promo

13

The Huntsville Times recently conducted an interview with Kofi Kingston promoting next Monday’s SmackDown live event in the area. The article contrasts WWE’s family-friendly, PG product to the “Attitude Era.” Kingston adamantly feels that wrestling can be PG.

“Absolutely,” Kingston said. “It’s one of those things where anyone can come to the show. Back in the day, it was a little more different and more intense. There were a lot of teenagers and adults in the crowd and you didn’t want to bring your kids to the show.

“We’ve done a better job and tried to be more creative to tell a story that everyone can enjoy. We want to create an experience the parents can bring the kids to. We’ve worked hard to do that and it’s a route we want to go.”

Triple H’s Power In WWE, Cena & Mysterio Injury Updates

16

– With Shane McMahon gone from WWE, Vince McMahon’s daughter Stephanie and her husband Triple H are seen as the successors to the WWE empire. Triple H has been a power player behind the scenes for years and many in the company see this year as a time when Vince will shift more responsibilities to his son in law. While Vince is not going anywhere any time soon, the overall feeling within WWE is that the company will be in good hands under Triple H and Stephanie.

– There’s still no word yet on the severity of John Cena’s hip injury or when he will be ready to return to action. Everybody is hoping that Cena will be healthy enough to compete at the Royal Rumble and he will be keeping a very light schedule until then.

– As we reported earlier this week, Rey Mysterio has been pulled from this weekend’s WWE live events and will be replaced by Big Show in matches against Alberto Del Rio. This is part of John Laurinaitis agreeing to give Mysterio an even easier schedule while he’s recovering from a shoulder tear. Rey will continue to work television and pay-per-view events, but like Cena, will be kept off live events for the time being while his injury heals.

NXT News: First Elimination, Updated Win/Loss Records

3

– SmackDown star Dolph Ziggler won a Pros Battle Royal on Tuesday night’s WWE NXT which allowed him to switch out his Rookie. Ziggler dropped Jacob Novak, who was later eliminated, and selected up Byron Saxton as his new Rookie. Chris Masters, who had Byron Saxton, was given Jacob Novak.

– Coming out of this week’s WWE NXT, Rookie Derrick Bateman still has a win-loss record of 0-3 while Conor O’Brian still leads the pack with a record of 2-0. Jacob Novak was eliminated with a record of 1-2.

Here’s the updated win-loss records for this season:

  • Conor O’Brian: 2-0
  • Byron Saxton: 3-1
  • Brodus Clay: 2-1
  • Johnny Curtis: 1-3
  • Derrick Bateman: 0-3
  • Jacob Novak (eliminated): 1-2

Update On WrestleMania Plans, Average RAW Rating For 2010

17

– With WrestleMania 27 now less than 3 months away, WWE’s creative team reportedly has come up with 6 matches for the event that they hope to build towards in the coming months.

The top two matches WWE is set on are The Miz defending the WWE Championship against John Cena and The Undertaker putting his streak on the line against former Nexus leader Wade Barrett. The Barrett vs. The Undertaker match would be a continuation of the angle that took place at Survivor Series, where Nexus took out the Undertaker and helped Kane bury him alive in their World Heavyweight title match.

The Undertaker is still recovering from shoulder surgery and it’s not 100% that he’ll be healthy enough to work a singles match in  time for WrestleMania, so there are various backup scenarios being discussed.

– One of the biggest stories of 2010 was the decline in WWE’s overall business – from pay-per-view buyrates to house show attendence and merchandise sales. WWE’s ratings were no different – with the average RAW rating for the year taking a dip from prior years.

For the year of 2010, WWE’s Monday Night RAW averaged a 3.28 cable rating – down 8% from 2009’s 3.57 average.  By comparison, RAW averaged a 3.27 in 2008, a 3.61 in 2007 and a 3.9 back in 2006.

Bischoff Interview: Goals For TNA In 2011, Sting-WWE HOF

8

TNA’s Eric Bischoff was the featured guest on this week’s live edition (01/03/11) of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem.

Eric Bischoff Discusses The Build-Up To Matt Morgan & Mr. Anderson’s #1 Contender’s Match At Genesis, If There Is Concern In TNA About The Current World Title Picture With Jeff Hardy’s Legal Situation, Why He Is Not Satisfied With The Immortal Storyline To This Point Thus Far/How Hulk Hogan’s Return From His Back Surgery Could Possibly Change That, Sting’s & Kurt Angle’s TNA Futures In 2011, Whether Or Not It’s Difficult For TNA To Run On The Same Network As The UFC, The Chances Of Seeing Him On TNA House Shows Stateside & Internationally This Year, What He Misses The Most About WCW, & If The Wrestling Pay-Per-View Industry As We Know It Needs To Change.

You can listen to an MP3 of the interview at by clicking here (MP3).

His most realistic goal that he would like to achieve personally with TNA in the new year:

“On a personal level, I would love to be part of TNA’s strategic growth. I think that’s one of the biggest challenges right now that TNA has. I would love to see more programming out of TNA across different channels, as well as potentially on Spike TV. Different types of programming. I think all of those things, just like we’re seeing in WWE (the fact they’re bringing back Tough Enough), that is an perfect example, I think, of what TNA needs to do to grow their brand. You can’t keep preaching to the same choir over and over and over again and expect to grow the congregation, so to speak.”

His thoughts about the main event #1 Contender’s Match at Genesis Pay-Per-View between “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan and Mr. Anderson & TNA giving a “strong build” through the past several weeks on iMPACT & ReAction to their main event this Sunday night:

“I think we had a great build to the # 1 contenders match in the three-way at Bound for Glory. In this particular case, I think we have a good slow & strong build. I think what makes the story resonate with people probably is there’s enough reality in the story that it’s plausible, and it’s believable. The more reality in a story, the more I think I people gravitates towards it.”

Why he is not satisfied with the Immortal storyline to this point thus far, the impact that Hulk Hogan’s back injury had in the changing of TNA’s initial plans for it, & why he is excited to see where things go in the very near future on TNA programming (with a “much more effervescent Hulk Hogan”):

“No I’m not. Clearly there was a pretty big setback with Hulk Hogan, which forced us to kind of shift on the fly, in terms of that storyline. At this point, the story is not where we wanted it to, be but as frustrated or disappointed I may be about that, it’s part of life. But I’m equally as excited about where it’s going to go in the very near future. I talk to Hulk almost every other day, if not every day, and he’s getting better. I think the prognosis for him & his ability to become active and a part of the story in a much better way: You’re going to see a much more effervescent Hulk Hogan than we’ve probably seen in a couple years, and I think the story’s going to evolve very nicely.”

Whether Sting will be returning to TNA in 2011 or if we will see him sign with the WWE, especially with the speculation of a WCW-themed Hall of Fame class as part of WrestleMania XXVII weekend in Atlanta:

“If I had to guess, and if he is going to sign another agreement, which I’m not sure he is going to do at this stage of his career, my bet would be that he is going to sign with TNA. I’m not sure what Sting’s motivations are at this point. I know physically he’s told me on more than one occasion that it’s getting harder & harder to deliver the type of performances that he wants to deliver in the ring for his fans. That’s got to be a big part of his consideration. I think realistically, if he would go to the WWE, there would be some additional pressure, much more than in TNA, to perform in the ring, and that would be a hard thing for him to do at this point in his career.”

Matt Hardy Talks Returning To WWE, The PG Era & More

6

Former WWE superstar Matt Hardy appeared on the Hit The Ropes radio show this week. Here are some highlights of what Hardy said about:

The “PG Era” In WWE: “I see why they do it; I don’t necessarily agree with it. I think it puts them in a tough spot. I think it’s still cool that TNA has the ability to do things that are a little edgy. But once again, you don’t need people bleeding every match and you don’t need every match to be a ladder match. I think things have to be promoted smart and wisely.”

Starting An Indy Promotion: I’ve talked with different guys about it already and I’ve definitely started making some small plans and as time goes on they’ll start materializing more and more.”

Returning To WWE: “If I did go back there I would want to go back there and work a part-time schedule. I just think my body, where I’m at right now, I’m past working 300-plus days a year right now… I’d still be willing to work hard and work a majority of the shows but still not just out there in the trenches, day in and day out, like I have been for the past 13 years.”

JR Blog: Sting In The HOF, Paul Orndorff’s Cancer, WWE’s MVP

5

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com As always, check out JR’s website for his delicious line of BBQ products. Here are some highlights of what Ross said about:

Sting In The WWE Hall of Fame:

We’re getting lots of emails and Tweets, @JRsBBQ, regarding Sting these days. BTW has he left TNA? I actually don’t know the answer to that one but suspect that Sting is still officially with TNA. Nonetheless many fans hope that Sting is inducted in the WWE HOF in Atlanta at WM27. Theoretically, if Sting were not working for another wrestling company, it would be a splendid idea. It still might be but that’s not for me to speculate on. Sting was the first and only WCW star that Turner’s people ‘made’ in Atlanta that never wrestled for WWE as best that I recall.

Paul Orndorff Announcing He Has Cancer:

Sorry to hear of Paul Orndorff was recently diagnosed with having cancer. PO is a tough man, I know this without hype or speculation, and saw him in action as a young dude being mentored by Cowboy Bill Watts in Mid South Wrestling. Paul was a former running back for the University of Tampa and played with former NFL star Freddie Solomon. Our prayers are with PO and I have complete faith that Mr. Wonderful will be physically wonderful at the end of the day. Paul was a helluva hand in his day who was never afraid of ‘heat’ when he was one of the most hated villains in the business. Trust me, all wrestling villains could not honestly say that they had absolutely no fear of intense, fan angst but Mr. Wonderful could.

Who Will Be The MVP Of WWE In 2011

Who will be WWE MVP by year’s end. If he stays healthy an argument could be made, at least in my point of view, that it might be CM Punk. Punk knows how to be physical and punishing in logical, easy to follow methods plus the guy can talk. Those traits work for me. Plus he won’t miss work, moan about non, major injuries and seems to never burn out.

Daniel Bryan Interview: Dream Feud, Wrestling Cena & More

10

Here are some highlights of what Daniel Bryan said to Slam Wrestling during a recent interview:

His Cattle Mutilation Submission Hold:

“I didn’t really believe the Cattle Mutilation would get over with the WWE Universe, and the reason why is because it’s such a TV-oriented product. There are a lot of downfalls to it. (In the Cattle Mutilation) you can’t see the other guy’s face, and on top of that, it’s very difficult to do it to big guys; I don’t have long arms. For example Ezekiel Jackson — he’s an enormous guy — there’s no way I’d be able to hook my arms through his arms like that. It was more me — no one mentioned anything to me about it. I’ll occasionally throw the Cattle Mutilation out there in places where I think there’s more of the independent fanbase, just as a tribute to them because they’re the people who got me to where I am today.”

Who He Wants To Feud With:

“CM Punk moved over to the Raw brand, so I’m actually hoping that me and him get to feud a little bit. We got to wrestle in the independents and we had some really good matches and I think the WWE Universe would be really excited about it.”

“I’d love to wrestle Tyson Kidd. We tag teamed in New Japan Pro Wrestling back in 2003 and I think we even did a singles match in Budokan Hall in Japan.” ?

His 2003 Match Against John Cena On Velocity:

“It hasn’t been brought up between the two of us, I haven’t seen it in years. The match was almost scrapped. That was the night he was going to come out in an interview and do something with Brock Lesnar. He was doing this major, main event thing, so they (WWE’s bookers) were saying, ‘We don’t want him in this Velocity match with an independent guy.’ I thought it was a good match and it gets me excited because I know we both progressed in our careers and if we ever got to wrestle again it would be really good.”

In case you haven’t seen it, here’s a video clip of Daniel Bryan’s (then Bryan Danielson) match against John Cena back in 2003:
