Big E’s upcoming memoir isn’t about championship runs or career highlights — it’s about the darkest period of his life, and the hope he wants readers to find in it.
The former WWE Champion recently shared a first look at “How I Got Over” after receiving a promotional copy from publisher BenBella. The book, expected to release in early 2027, will touch on different chapters of his life and wrestling career, but Big E made clear the heart of the story lies well beyond anything that happened in the ring.
In sharing the preview, Big E thanked fans who had already helped spread word about the project, calling it a genuine labor of love. He then opened up about being diagnosed with major depressive disorder with psychotic features at age 19, a period so difficult that he didn’t believe he’d make it out of his twenties.
I truly just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has been so supportive, everyone who has shared the message and who has shared posts on social media. This has been a true labor of love.”
“This ultimately is a message of hope for someone like me, who was diagnosed with major depressive disorder with psychotic features at the age of 19. I never thought I would make it out of my twenties. I had a very hard time for the longest time.
Rather than centering the memoir on accolades, Big E said his goal is for it to reach people who feel trapped in that same sense of hopelessness he once knew. He described the book as being about learning to find value in yourself and rediscovering self-love, more than anything tied to professional accomplishment.
I really want this to be a story of hope to those who feel hopeless. It’s not really about accolades and accomplishments. It’s about finding self-love. It’s about learning to find value in yourself.
He closed his message by emphasizing that the book is ultimately about healing, and about understanding that life can improve dramatically even when it feels impossible to see a way forward — something he admitted he never could have predicted for himself during his hardest years. He once again thanked fans for their support in helping the project’s message reach people.
It’s about healing and knowing that things can get much, much better. At a time when I was really struggling, I never foresaw any of this.”
“I’m so, so grateful. I truly can’t thank everyone enough who has been supportive and who has spread the message.
“How I Got Over” is shaping up to be one of the more personal releases from a WWE alum in recent memory, with Big E hoping his story offers real hope to anyone going through something similar.
