Booker T has opened up about one of the most infamous matches of his career.

The wrestling legend recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet for a new interview. He talked about things such as a potential retirement match with Trick Williams, coming to WWE as a WCW guy, the failure of his main roster commentary run, and more.

During the talk, the former WCW Champion also discussed his WrestleMania 19 match with Triple H. He was asked if he would change the finish of the match if he could, and had there been any talks of him winning the bout. Booker T explained that he never heard any talks of a different finish but he admitted that he would have changed the finish if it was his call:

You know, to add to the first part first, that would be the only match in my career that I could honestly say, maybe if I could change that finish, I would change it. But no, there was never any talk about me winning that match from the beginning; I never went into that match thinking I was winning. But there again, I’ve never gone into any match thinking that. I just never got involved in that side of it.

I Think That’s A Win: Booker T

WrestleMania 19 featured Booker T challenging Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. The build-up to the bout saw The Game bringing up Booker’s criminal past and using racially insensitive language. The whole storyline and the decision to have T lose the match was highly criticized by fans.

The 5-time WCW World Champion noted that he loves the fans for wanting him to win the match but he was just happy being in a prominent WrestleMania match because it had been his goal getting into the business. Booker T also explained that the whole story might have been fictional for others but it was very real for him:

Most people wouldn’t understand it. I get it, because it’s something that’s fictional to them, but it’s real to me. When I say that, I lost my dad when I was 10 months old, and I lost my mom when I was 14, quit school and got locked up in prison.

Then I come out and find myself in the main event at WrestleMania. I think that’s a win. Any kid that’s looking at it, I needed them to understand I’m that kid that went through all that trial and tribulation, but yeah, found myself being one of the best wrestlers in the world, in the main event at WrestleMania.

The 61-year-old also recently gave his thoughts on fans wanting LA Knight to win a World Championship. You can check out his comments on the matter here.
