The Avery Styles ring-setup controversy continues picking up commentary from around the wrestling world, with former WWE star Joe Gacy(now Joseph Sawyer) the latest to weigh in.

The situation began when F1RST Wrestling promoter Arik Cannon publicly called out Avery Styles, son of WWE Hall of Famer AJ Styles, for not helping set up the ring and ringside area ahead of a Game Changer Wrestling show.

The comments sparked a wider conversation, drawing responses from multiple wrestlers, including AJ Styles himself addressing it on his own podcast.

Joe Gacy Shares His Thoughts

Speaking with Fightful’s Joel Pearl, Gacy offered a measured take on the topic. He acknowledged that he himself has helped set up chairs at events, even at points when he wasn’t necessarily required to.

But his main point centered less on the task itself and more on how the disagreement played out publicly, arguing that whatever issues people have with one another, airing them out online isn’t the right way to handle it.

That hot button right now about setting the chairs up and I mean, I did it at some point and there was a point where, I don’t know, I did it maybe when I didn’t have to but, here’s what I’ll say about that whole thing: Regardless of any issues that you have with somebody, they don’t need to be online, and that’s all I’ll leave it at.

The controversy traces back further to comments from Natalya, who said Avery wants to pay his dues, adding another layer to the broader conversation about how young talent should be expected to contribute around the ring before their in-ring careers take off. Paul Wight also recently shared his thoughts on the controversy.
