Hulk Hogan’s 1986 WWF World Heavyweight Championship belt, photo-matched to WrestleMania 2, sold for $414,800 including buyer’s premium at Heritage Auctions’ Summer Platinum Night Sports Auction on August 21.
The belt carries the classic globe design, with the WWF logo on the center plate and country flags on the side plates, matching examples used during Hogan’s first major title reign in the mid-1980s.
WrestleMania 2 was held across three cities on April 7, 1986, wrapping up at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, where Hogan defended the title against King Kong Bundy in a steel cage main event. Heritage matched the belt to a photo of Hogan taken that day, along with several undated photoshoot images.
The belt’s provenance adds to its appeal. Hogan personally gave the title to the son of a close family friend, reportedly in a backstage green room moment following one of his victories, and it stayed in private hands until this sale.
A Hulkamania Market Still Climbing
The sale comes months after Hogan’s match-worn WrestleMania I boots sold for $1,037,000 at Heritage in February, the first wrestling collectible to clear seven figures. This belt landed well short of that number, but $414,800 still ranks among the larger sums ever paid for a wrestling championship.
The belt now heads to a new owner as Heritage’s Platinum Night results continue to underline how much collectors are willing to pay for authenticated pieces from the peak Hulkamania years.
