Brock Lesnar’s Hell in a Cell match at SummerSlam is not expected to be his last.
WrestleVotes Radio reports the feeling within WWE is that Saturday’s bout against Oba Femi will not close out Lesnar’s career. One source told the outlet they would be surprised if Lesnar did not step away from television for a stretch before resurfacing in time for WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
WrestleVotes attached its own caveat. Lesnar has always operated in a way that keeps his plans from leaking, so if this does end up being the finish, it is not something widely known or being discussed backstage.
Triple H said much the same on ESPN’s First Take this week.
The one thing that I know more than anything else about Brock Lesnar is Brock Lesnar is going to do whatever Brock Lesnar wants to do.
He framed the WrestleMania exit as real in Lesnar’s own head.
Keep in mind, Brock, I believe, in his mind, retired at WrestleMania. I believe that wasn’t enough for him. I believe he wanted to come back to prove Oba wrong. He did that.
The history is why the question will not die. Femi beat Lesnar in under five minutes to open WrestleMania 42, and Lesnar left his gloves and boots in the ring in what read as a goodbye. He returned weeks later, ambushed Femi on Raw, then evened the score at Clash in Italy on May 31. He asked for the third match in his home state, inside the Cell.
Lesnar vs. Femi goes down on Night 1 of SummerSlam on Saturday, August 1 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
