Janel Grant Breaks Silence: “Everything From My Bones To My Bank Account Is Still Broken”

Janel Grant’s latest words offer a deeper look at just how much she has been dealing with, and why her perspective on life has started to change.

Grant shared the emotional admission while accepting the 2026 Advocacy in Action Award from the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence. She later posted the longer version of her speech on Instagram, revealing more about what she has endured over the past several years.

Grant explained that the damage has extended across almost every part of her life.

What I’ve survived is one, two, three, four years of across-the-board life wreck, like physical health, mental health, my, oh goodness, my support system, my safety, my security, my place in the world, just stability and everything gone, finances gone.

Then, roughly six weeks before the event, Grant suffered another major setback inside her own home. She said she tripped, suffered a concussion, broken ribs and facial injuries, and spent days in a blackout.

But that frightening experience also gave Grant a realization she had not fully understood before. She discovered that people around her were paying attention and were willing to step in when something was wrong.

The power of my worst fear realized turned out to be proof that I’m actually in a new beginning. It took a serious accident and nearly losing my life to realize finally that me and my cat were not alone.

Grant said people she had only recently connected with recognized that something was wrong, made calls and eventually helped get her to a hospital.

That support did not suddenly erase everything she had been dealing with. Instead, Grant said she has learned to recognize that multiple realities can exist at the same time.

There’s a power in acknowledging multiple truths that exist in any given moment.

She then offered perhaps the clearest description of where her life currently stands.

Everything from my bones to my bank account is still broken. Any problem I had yesterday is still going to be there tomorrow. But I’m standing in gratitude.

Grant remains physically injured and says her finances are still in serious trouble. The problems that existed before the accident have not disappeared either.

Yet something about the experience changed her outlook.

And it feels like this joyous hard-won defiant against the odds, honest celebration of life and of the power of the Alliance. Because I’m still here. I’m still breathing.

Grant’s speech came only weeks after her federal lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE was dismissed so the dispute could continue through private arbitration. That decision ended the public federal courtroom fight, but it did not mean Grant withdrew her allegations, nor did it represent an admission of wrongdoing by McMahon or WWE.

That makes her latest comments especially significant. The legal situation remains unresolved, her physical recovery continues, and the financial problems she described are still there. But after an accident she says nearly cost her life, Grant is choosing to focus on the fact that she survived and still has a chance to rebuild.

She closed her speech with another powerful reflection.

It’s powerful to realize I’ve stopped counting the dates and I’m making the days count. Thank you so much.
