Trick Williams and Lil Yachty have emerged as an unlikely, but dynamic duo for WWE. The Grammy-nominated rapper helped Williams win the United States Championship at WrestleMania 42. At Sunday Night’s Main Event, he then stepped into the ring with Baron Corbin to ensure that Williams would have an opportunity to reclaim it.
As Yachty attests, their relationship extends behind the scenes as well, so much so that he now views the WWE SmackDown star as a “brother.”
That relationship, I couldn’t have paid for it. I couldn’t have asked for it,” Yachty told Insight With Chris Van Vliet. “That was like dropped down from God. I couldn’t have asked for that friendship, man. That guy, he’s been the most positive influence on my life I’ve ever had, and I’ve always wanted an older brother like that. He’s really helped change my life for the better. Not only with the wrestling stuff and the opportunity, I’m grateful for that too. But off camera, just my health and training, and just the way he lives his life.
Coming from the music world, Yachty noted that he’s constantly surrounded by “a lot of drugs and women,” which could lead one down a dark path. Williams’ clean and healthy lifestyle, however, has inspired him too remain on a more positive one.
Just being around him has really re-shifted my brain in so many ways of life that he would never even know or understand because it’s just an image I haven’t had around being in studios with rappers and in the club or whatever,” Yachty said. “Just the way he lives has shifted me.
On-screen, WWE fans typically see Yachty serving as a manager for Williams. At Sunday Night’s Main Event, the music artist became a wrestler as well when he took on Baron Corbin under the stipulation that if he could survive five minutes in the ring, Williams would receive a US Title rematch against “The Lone Wolf.” Yachty ultimately survived, thus granting Williams an immediate title shot.
