Penta pushed Roman Reigns to the brink in front of the biggest crowd of his WWE career, but according to a new report, the World Heavyweight Championship was never really in danger of changing hands that night.
Reigns survived the September 14 Raw main event at Arena CDMX, escaping with a Superman Punch and Spear to retain the title in front of a red-hot Mexico City crowd.
During a recent PWInsider Q&A, Mike Johnson explained the outcome by pointing to WWE’s longer-term plans rather than anything to do with Penta’s performance. He noted that Reigns is reportedly earmarked to face Oba Femi at WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia, assuming no injuries or unexpected creative changes. This is why WWE wants to keep him protected and looking strong heading into that spot.
