Paul Wight Says He's Still Working On Captain Insano Return

Paul Wight says Captain Insano, his character from The Waterboy, is still in the works and he is putting in hard work to bring the character back properly.

Wrestling legend Paul Wight recently said that Captain Insano, his character from Adam Sandler’s 1998 comedy The Waterboy, is still in the works. He also made it clear that he’s putting real effort into bringing him back.

During a live appearance on News4JAX’s Going Ringside with Scott Johnson on Monday, ahead of AEW Blood and Guts at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Wight was asked about the character.

Captain is a lot of fun. We’re still working on that, actually. I have a lot of fun with it. Of course, that character was iconic in the movie The Waterboy. I’m going through a lot of hard work to bring that character out, to present that character in its best possible format.

Wight didn’t give a date or say where the character would turn up, and AEW hasn’t announced anything.

Captain Insano has surfaced a few times since Wight joined AEW in 2021. He showed up in The Acclaimed’s music video in 2022 and made a surprise appearance at the 2024 CMA Awards during Bailey Zimmerman’s performance.

The “hard work” line fits what Wight said elsewhere in the same interview. He told Going Ringside he’s had 11 surgeries in the past seven years and is working on losing weight, and that he hasn’t stepped away from the ring. He also said Vince McMahon set out to crush any competition to WWE.
