Penta may be getting a second crack at Roman Reigns after all.
When Penta challenged for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 Raw in Mexico City, the read inside WWE creative was that it would be a one-off. WrestleVotes reported as much for Fightful Select at the time.
The feedback from that show appears to have changed minds.
WrestleVotes is now told that several people in creative believe a rematch makes sense on both business and creative grounds. Some future plans may have been rearranged as a result.
There is a route to it. Creative sources point to Penta as a heavy favorite to win the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match, which could feed directly into a second match with Reigns.
That was not the plan as recently as SummerSlam. The briefcase was going elsewhere before the Mexico City reaction.
Penta lost the original match after more than 22 minutes, with the crowd behind him throughout. Reigns retained following a Superman punch and a spear. Penta had earned the shot by beating his brother Rey Fenix in an eight-man tournament final.
