Nikki Bella has no regrets about turning on Paige at WWE SummerSlam Night 1 and she made that abundantly clear just hours after the fact.
Appearing on Busted Open Radio on WWE Radio not long after the Bella Twins’ shocking heel turn following their loss to Fatal Influence, Nikki didn’t hold back in defending her actions.
She suggested she and the WWE Universe are simply on the same wavelength, and openly questioned whether anyone really believes Paige didn’t have it coming.
We have the same vibes. The fans feel me. Sometimes you just get sick of things. I mean, don’t you guys think she deserved what she got?
According to Nikki, the attack traces back to where she is in her career right now. She explained that she’s reached the stage where she’s focused on checking off her remaining goals before eventually retiring, and winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship alongside sister Brie was one of the biggest items still on that list.
I’m sick of a lot of sh*t, let me tell you. But, you know, it’s very hard when you hit a certain part of your legacy and you have certain things you want to check off before you call it for good. Being a Tag Team Champion with my sister was one of those. I worked really hard.
Part of what pushed her over the edge, Nikki admitted, was watching Paige and Brie grow closer over the past three to four months. Rather than feeling good about the bond, she said it left her increasingly unhappy with the situation.
When Brie came in, Paige came in and thought it was a good thing. Then I sat back and watched them the past 3-4 months really connect, and it just didn’t make me happy.
Nikki was clear that, in her mind, this wasn’t personal, it was business. She framed the attack as a necessary move to clear her path toward one or two more championship runs before walking away from the industry for good.
She made it known she has zero regrets about the decision. If anything, she signaled this is just the beginning, not the end, of what she’s willing to do to get there.
You know, there are certain ways to get ahead. It is bullshit. When you really want to achieve something, sometimes you just gotta pick people out of your way to get there.”
“No, I don’t mind. I’ll crush people on that ladder, pick ’em right off. It’s just naturally me. It’s who I am and where I thrive. For me, it was the right decision, and in this industry, let’s take personal out of it, let’s talk about business.
For me, last night was business. For me to continue to succeed and actually go on one or two more championship runs before I call it quits, I had to get the b**** out of my way. So that’s what I did, and I don’t regret it. It felt really good. It’s not gonna stop.
The comments come on the heels of one of SummerSlam’s most talked-about moments, with Paige already firing back on social media and promising this isn’t something she plans to let slide.
