Rey Mysterio Calls AAA GM Role A Full-Circle Moment

ByStaffProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Rey Mysterio says being named General Manager of AAA hits differently than any other deal in his career, because the same promotion gave him his first national television opportunity back in 1992. Reflecting on the WWE-AAA partnership, Mysterio admitted he “never” imagined the two companies would ever work together.

The reflection comes after Mysterio was revealed as AAA’s General Manager, a development tied to the ongoing collaboration between WWE and the Mexican promotion. Now he is putting his own emotional weight on what that connection means to him personally.

Speaking during a panel with Going Ringside, Mysterio was asked about how the WWE-AAA relationship has been playing out. He did not downplay the response.

Mysterio said watching the partnership unfold on social media or television only tells part of the story. According to him, being there in person makes the energy feel even bigger.

“If you’re there live, you’ll realize that it’s extremely incredible,” Mysterio said, after calling the overall reaction “incredible.”

AAA Gave Mysterio His First Major Platform

For Mysterio, AAA is not just another promotion. He explained that the company handed him one of his first major platforms when he was still trying to make his name in the business.

“My first opportunity to be able to wrestle on national television was in 1992 with Triple A when that company started,” Mysterio said.

That history is exactly why the current situation feels so surreal to him. Mysterio said he never pictured WWE and AAA crossing paths in any serious way.

“To see that coming full circle… would I have ever thought that WWE and Triple A were going to work together? Never,” Mysterio said.

Now he is not just watching it happen, he is part of it. Mysterio said stepping into a leadership role with the company that launched him carries real meaning.

“To be general manager of the company that gave me my first opportunity is incredible,” Mysterio said.

The full-circle nature of the moment has been a recurring theme since Mysterio’s AAA GM role was revealed, a development first teased at the WWE and AAA Noche de Los Grandes event. For Mysterio, the link between the promotion that opened the door for him and the company that turned him into a worldwide icon is something he never expected to see.
