Ric Flair stood in a wrestling ring on Sunday and posted about how it felt.
My Forever Home! The Years May Have Passed, But The Ring Still Feels Like Home. A Nostalgic Feeling Like No Other! WOOOOO!
The photo shows him inside a training ring. He did not say why he was there, did not announce anything, and has not been booked for a match.
The reason it gets attention anyway is that Flair has never fully closed the door and has repeatedly said contradictory things about it. He retired at WrestleMania XXIV in 2008, then wrestled for TNA into 2012. His last match came on July 31, 2022, in Nashville, teaming with Andrade El Idolo against Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal, and he later revealed he had suffered a heart attack during it.
He was 73 then. He is 77 now. There are no plans for Flair to wrestle again.
Since signing with AEW in 2023, he has been asked about this often, and his clearest answer was that his health is good, that he has been medically cleared, that he could get in a ring, and that he is not going to wrestle. He has also said at other times that he would like one more.
His medical history is not a small consideration. Flair had a pacemaker fitted in 2017 and bowel surgery the same year that led to kidney failure and dialysis.
None of which stops a man from standing in a ring and enjoying it, which for now is all this is.
