Rusev Explains Recent WWE Absence

Rusev says he was kicked in the head in his July 27 Raw match with Je’Von Evans, then got sick, but he has been ready to return to WWE TV for about two months.

Rusev has explained his recent WWE absence.

The former US Champion has not been seen on TV since the July 27 episode of Raw, where he faced Je’Von Evans in a singles match. The heavyweight star was heard saying that his hands had gone numb during the bout. While he still completed the match, the WWE star quickly exited the ring after the bell, indicating a potential injury.

During a recent interview with TMZ Sports’ Inside the Ring, Rusev reiterated comments from his wife CJ Perry about his recent absence. The Bulgarian Brute explained that he was pulled from the road due to his injury and the hiatus was extended further by an illness:

I’ve been out for what? Two, three months or whatnot…. I did get kicked in the head, my hands went numb, felt better, finished the match. Then, I got a little sick after that. Not related. I don’t believe it was related. So I was out for that.

Though later on, the former AEW star said, “I’ve been ready. I’ve been good for about two months. I’m just waiting to go back to TV.” He returned to the ring during WWE’s Hawaii tour earlier this month, competing in a couple of house show matches.

So it appears that Rusev’s return to TV is now in the hands of WWE creative rather than the medical team. The WWE couple also recently revealed that they are expecting their first child in 2027.
