WWE ID has publicly apologized to Wrestling Open RI over Sloane Jacobs’ conduct at the promotion’s Monday night show in Cranston, Rhode Island. It’s an unusual step for a WWE developmental program to take toward one of its independent partners.
The program posted the statement to its official X account on Tuesday. “WWE ID would like to apologize to @WrestlingOpenRI for Sloane Jacobs’ behavior last night,” it read. “WWE ID values @WrestlingOpenRI and @WrestlingOpen as important places for independent wrestlers to grow and develop.”
What happened on the broadcast
Jacobs teamed with Kylie Alexa and Paris Van Dale against Allie Katch, Liviyah and Shannon LeVangie in a six-woman tag team match, and Katch’s team won. According to reports from the show, Jacobs then joined the commentary team, blamed Van Dale for the loss and boasted about being on Tubi every week. When one of the announcers cut her off, she threw down her headset and walked off.
Beyond Wrestling weighed in shortly after the apology. It said it has “nothing but love for WWE ID” and has backed Jacobs ever since WWE released her. It also said the IWTV broadcast “was not the right time or place” to air grievances.
Jacobs fired back on X. Beyond’s post had called her Mimi, her old independent ring name, and she replied: “‘nothing but love for the program’ but can’t even be bothered to call me the correct name righttttt.”
It isn’t clear whether any part of this is a worked angle. Nobody involved has said it is, and WWE ID’s statement reads as a straight apology to a partner promotion.
Another turbulent week for WWE ID
Jacobs wrestled on the independents as Notorious Mimi after WWE released her from NXT in November 2022. She came back through the ID program this year.
The apology lands in the middle of heavy turnover for the program. WWE chose not to renew former WWE ID Women’s Champion Laynie Luck. Marcus Mathers and Sam Holloway announced their exits, and inaugural men’s ID Champion Cappuccino Jones followed on Tuesday.
The program is still adding talent too. On the same Monday night, WWE ID player/coach Timothy Thatcher presented Richard Adonis with an ID deal at a WWN Proving Ground event in Clearwater, Florida. Adonis worked an NXT dark match in September, and he joins Monica Monroe, Josiah Jean and Conan Lycan as the program’s newest additions.
