WWE scrapped a Saturday Night’s Main Event segment.
The July 2026 edition of SNME from Madison Square Garden in New York received a lot of criticism for the heavy celebrity involvement in the show.
The event featured only 4 matches on the main card, one of which saw New York Knicks star center Karl-Anthony Towns chokeslamming Dominik Mysterio. The main event spot was also given to an angle featuring NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson over the high-stakes tag team match involving both Cody Rhodes and WWE Champion CM Punk.
WWE Nixed SNME Segment
A new report from Fightful Select reveals that the company had planned to continue this trend with the next edition of SNME. According to the site, officials had originally planned a Lil Yachty concert to be a featured segment of the show, but the idea was nixed due to the negative reactions:
One of the original ideas for the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event show was to feature and heavily promote a legitimate Lil Yachty concert as one of the show’s main drawing points. We’re told that the concert idea was ultimately nixed following the feedback surrounding segments that filled the last edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Yachty and his on-screen partner Trick Williams are still expected to be a focal point of the show per the report, though the promotion has opted to put a greater emphasis on the wrestling product this time around.
Williams has not been announced for a match at the September 6 event from Atlanta, Georgia so far. The two matches officially confirmed for the show are Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton and Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker.
