The Young Bucks say their upcoming tag match against Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay is really a message aimed at Kenny Omega.
Matt and Nick Jackson challenge Moxley and Ospreay this Sunday at Redemption in Montreal, a bout that also feeds directly into Omega’s AEW World Championship program with Ospreay heading into All In at Wembley Stadium. Speaking in a new column from veteran sports journalist Justin Barrasso at Undisputed, Matt Jackson framed the match as a warning about the company Ospreay is now keeping.
“Our motive here is pretty obvious, it’s to show Kenny that The Death Riders aren’t to be trusted,” Jackson told Barrasso. “Sure, he and Will go way back and have a connection. Kenny was at Will’s wedding. They’ve had wars together. But Will is now a Death Rider. And nobody understands the inner workings of that faction better than us. We worked with them. We’ve been there for the speeches, we’ve been to the meetings. They’re basically a cult.”
What gives the promo its edge is that the Bucks aren’t speaking as outsiders. They returned at Dynasty in 2025 to help Moxley retain the AEW World Title over Swerve Strickland, then ran alongside the group before the alliance soured. The men now calling the Death Riders a cult were standing in the meetings they’re describing.
The Bucks laid out the challenge on the July 18 episode of Collision, questioning Ospreay’s alignment with Moxley and telling Omega he can’t trust the Owen Cup winner. Moxley and Ospreay accepted, with Moxley saying he has always held an “intrinsic disdain for all things elite” and promising the match in Montreal would be personal.
Jackson went further, suggesting Ospreay may already be lost. “Will could be completely gone, as far as I’m concerned. He’s got the devil in his ear now. And once we finish this business, it’s back to our main goal: the AEW tag team titles.”
A Reunion With Recent History
Sunday marks the Bucks’ first match against Ospreay since last year’s All In, where he teamed with Swerve Strickland and beat the Jacksons in a match that stripped them of their on-air EVP status. It will be only the third time the Bucks have faced Moxley in a traditional tag.
The match arrives two weeks after Omega regained the AEW World Championship, defeating MJF in a 24-minute main event at Dynamite’s Beach Break special in Clearwater, Florida. A loss would have permanently barred Omega from ever challenging for the title again. He finished MJF with the One-Winged Angel to become a two-time AEW World Champion, then turned his attention to Ospreay, who joined the Death Riders earlier this month.
Jackson, whose in-ring bond with Omega dates back to 2008, told Barrasso he was “just super happy” watching that title win. The subtext is that the same loyalty now has the Bucks trying to pull Omega away from a faction they know from the inside.
Sunday’s tag is also a marker of how far the brothers have come. July 11 was 15 years since they requested and received their release from TNA in 2010, a departure that preceded runs in Ring of Honor, New Japan, and Bullet Club before they helped launch AEW.
