Zelina Vega says she’s finally able to show fans what she can really do now that she’s out from under WWE’s creative oversight. Vega, whose 90-day non-compete clause has now expired, addressed the shift during a new interview with Denise Salcedo.
“That means no more handcuffs,” Vega said. “That means no more, ‘Your promos are so great, but it can’t be better than this person.’ Now it’s like there’s no change, there’s no nothing. I want people to see what I actually can do.”
Learning to Work Within the Lines
Vega pointed to her time around Shawn Michaels as an example of just how tightly her material was scripted during her WWE run.
“I remember one time Shawn Michaels, when we were walking out, he was like, ‘Say that somewhere in there,'” Vega said. “That’s the fun thing for me when I get to just create and be me.”

Even as she moves forward, Vega said she isn’t looking to reinvent herself from scratch. She wants fans to still recognize her, just without the restrictions attached to the name.
“I still want to keep that people know that’s still me regardless of what company I’m with,” she said. “But it’s also shedding the skin. I always talk about shedding that skin and bringing a more real version of myself to people.”
Vega has already begun teasing her post-WWE identity since becoming a free agent.
