Zelina Vega Turning WWE Release Into “Petty” Motivation

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Zelina Vega isn’t hiding that her WWE release has given her a chip on her shoulder, and she’s using it as fuel heading into the next stage of her career.

“I’m also very petty, and I’m just like, ‘Okay, well that’s cute, but now I’m going to show you what you’re missing out on and what I’ve been pitching to try me for the longest time and who I really could be,'” Vega said in a new interview with Denise Salcedo.

Building Something of Her Own

Vega also touched on plans to expand her brand outside the ring, including projects built around the female wrestling scene she’s been paying close attention to.

“There’s a lot, especially with what I’ve seen from a lot of the female wrestlers, where I’m like, ‘I can see that on them,'” she said.

Writing Her Own Story

Vega framed her WWE run as one chapter of a longer career, one she now gets to shape on her own terms.

“That was one chapter of your story, and now you get to be the author of your new chapter and what it’s going to be,” she said.

Vega has already put that mindset into action, having filed a trademark for a new ring identity just days before her non-compete expired, and she’s now cleared to sign with any promotion she chooses.
