Toni Storm Wins This Year’s Mae Young Classic At WWE Evolution

Toni Storm beat Io Shirai to win the 2018 Mae Young Classic at Sunday’s (October 28, 2018) WWE Evolution pay-per-view event in Long Island, New York at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on the WWE Network. It should be noted that WWE has already signed Storm to an NXT UK contract.

WWE taped the tournament on August 8th and August 9th from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida that later aired on the WWE Network leading up to this show.

It’s truly a special tournament and similar to the Cruiserweight Classic. The name of the event is in honor of the late WWE Hall of Famer Mae Young. If you recall, the Cruiserweight Classic was a tournament produced by WWE wherein all participants were billed at a weight of 205 lbs or less to determine the first Cruiserweight Champion.

Last year’s tournament finals went down on September 12th from the SmackDown TV event in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Thomas and Mack Center that saw Kairi Sane beat Shayna Baszler in the finals to win the tournament.

What are your thoughts on Storm winning this tournament? Did WWE make the right decision or was this a mistake? Sound off in the comment section.
