Andrade El Ídolo has vowed to give Kenny Omega "the best match of his life" when the two finally face off again, admitting their Triplemanía match in 2022 failed to reach its potential due to disastrous travel circumstances.
Speaking in a Spanish-language interview on Soy Eduardo Bates, Andrade revealed the chaotic behind-the-scenes situation that hampered what should have been a dream match between two of wrestling's most talented performers.
Both men had worked in the southern United States the night before Triplemanía, finishing around midnight. Their 6 AM flight landed in Mexico at 2:30 PM on the same day as the show.
The day before we wrestled in the south of the United States. The flight left at 6, we arrived in Mexico at 2 in the afternoon the same day as Triplemanía," Andrade explained. (Translated from Spanish)
The situation worsened when Omega encountered documentation issues at the airport. Despite being the reigning AAA Mega Champion, Omega was left waiting outside for over 40 minutes before anyone picked him up.
Kenny Omega I think didn't have his documentation that time. They took about 40 minutes to pick him up. Kenny Omega was outside. They hadn't picked him up. The mega champion," Andrade recalled, still incredulous at the treatment of AAA's top champion.
Even basic logistics failed them. The person with their hotel room keys arrived late, meaning neither competitor could rest until 4 PM for a major pay-per-view match that night.
Andrade Seeks Kenny Omega Rematch
Despite acknowledging the match wasn't bad, Andrade knows they're capable of much more. He made a bold promise for their inevitable rematch.
That match we lacked, I don't know, time or something to reach... The match wasn't that bad, but I hope the next time I get to wrestle Kenny we're going to give him the best match of his life. Of his life," Andrade declared.
Andrade and Omega's history dates back to their teenage years. They first crossed paths at 19 years old during a New Japan Pro Wrestling Super Junior tournament, competing alongside future stars like Finn Balor, KUSHIDA, BUSHI, and Kota Ibushi.
Despite years in the same company, the two were never placed in the same tournament block in Japan, making their eventual collision all the more anticipated.
With both men now in AEW, the rematch can finally happen under better circumstances.
