Atticus Cogar Rips Joseph Sawyer Over Skipped GCW Title Defense

ByMike ReichlinProfessional Wrestling Journalist

Atticus Cogar went after Joseph Sawyer at GCW’s Alaska show on Saturday, accusing the GCW World Champion of dodging his responsibilities while the title sits idle. Sawyer answered on Sunday with a cryptic post saying he was deceived and promising to reveal more if the pressure continues.

Cogar, who lost the title to Sawyer at GCW Homecoming Weekend on August 15, said he has no problem with Sawyer being injured. What angers him, he said, is that the champion won’t be back in GCW to defend the belt for a month. He then turned personal, questioning Sawyer’s toughness and accusing him of being afraid to face the people who dedicate their lives to GCW.

Cogar invited Sawyer to an upcoming GCW event to defend the title against him, and told him to stop burying the legacy of Joe Gacy, the ring name Sawyer used in WWE.

Sawyer replied on his X account. He didn’t say who deceived him or about what, only that there is a lot people don’t know and that it may come out one day. He ended with a warning to Cogar: “keep on pushing and I swear I’ll spill it all.”

GCW founder Brett Lauderdale weighed in on X on Saturday night, saying it is not an angle.

How the title ended up on hold

Sawyer was hurt on September 26 at GCW Score in Cincinnati during a title defense. He left the match unfinished and said in the moment that he might be out for months. Afterward he posted that he had tried to get the feeling back in his knee and couldn’t continue, but that the injury didn’t look like it would sideline him for an extended period. He also said the next morning that he was already walking better. We covered the scare in our report on the knee injury at GCW Score. Sawyer did not make the trip to Alaska.

He remains booked on the TNA side. Sawyer and Samuel Shaw were revealed as the TNA mystery attackers as Syx, and they are set to face The Hardys in a Falls Count Anywhere match at TNA Bound For Glory on October 11.
