Charlotte Flair may have quietly added fuel to one of WWE’s biggest creative debates ahead of SummerSlam 2026.
The multi-time Women’s Champion recently liked an Instagram post from a wrestling fan page criticizing WWE for announcing only two women’s matches for the two-night SummerSlam event. While Flair hasn’t publicly explained why she interacted with the post, many fans interpreted the like as a sign that she shares growing concerns about how WWE’s women’s division has been booked in recent months.
The timing is significant because criticism surrounding the division’s creative booking has been building for months.
Although Liv Morgan entered WrestleMania 42 as the Royal Rumble winner and left with the Women’s World Championship, her reign has drawn criticism from many fans and media outlets. Critics have argued that WWE never fully capitalized on her title run, as she was largely left without regular title defenses or a meaningful post-WrestleMania championship rivalry. Instead, much of Morgan’s television time centered around her storyline with Dominik Mysterio rather than elevating the Women’s World Championship as the focal point of the division.
Immediately after WrestleMania 42, WWE had planned to continue Morgan’s reign with a rematch against Stephanie Vaquer. However, those plans were scrapped after Vaquer suffered an injury, forcing WWE to cancel its planned post-WrestleMania rivalry. Surprisingly, WWE never replaced that program with another meaningful Women’s World Championship feud, leaving Morgan without a sustained championship storyline for much of her reign.
Behind the scenes, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful had previously reported that several women on the roster had pushed back against pitches for “token tag matches” at major Premium Live Events, instead wanting the women’s division to be presented on the same level as the men’s division.
The criticism only intensified following this week’s episode of RAW. After witnessing Lyra Valkyria’s performance against Bayley at Saturday Night’s Main Event, many fans expected WWE to immediately capitalize on the momentum. The performance introduced a darker, far more unhinged version of Lyra Valkyria, and the blood pouring from her nose only strengthened that presentation. Bayley once again elevated everyone around her, making it feel like only the beginning of what could become an outstanding rivalry.
Instead, Valkyria’s first dominant promo aired during a commercial break on the international feed, meaning viewers watching the main U.S. broadcast never saw her take credit for driving Bayley out of WWE before confronting Women’s Intercontinental Champion Sol Ruca. Combined with the fact that RAW featured no women’s matches at all, many fans felt WWE squandered a perfect opportunity to build one of its hottest storylines heading into SummerSlam.
Much of the backlash on X was directed at Triple H’s creative approach. Fans argued that a career-defining character shift deserved a live in-ring segment rather than a commercial-break promo. They also pointed out that RAW featured multiple men’s matches and lengthy storylines while stars such as Sol Ruca, Roxanne Perez and Raquel Rodriguez were completely absent from in-ring action, leading many to question whether WWE was giving its women’s division the same level of priority heading into SummerSlam.
The current SummerSlam lineup has only added to those concerns. As things stand, Liv Morgan’s Women’s World Championship defense against IYO SKY and the five-way Ladder Match to crown an Interim WWE Women’s Champion are the only officially announced women’s matches. Critics have also noted a glaring omission regarding the newly introduced WWE Women’s United States Championship. Fans are actively hoping to see current champion Giulia receive a late-added title defense to help flesh out the two-night event and further strengthen WWE’s women’s representation on the card.
With just two episodes of SmackDown and one episode of RAW remaining before SummerSlam, WWE still has time to expand the lineup. But Charlotte Flair’s subtle social media interaction has only amplified a conversation that has been growing louder for weeks.
Whether Flair intended to send a message or simply agreed with a fan’s opinion, her like has become part of a much bigger discussion surrounding WWE’s recent handling of its women’s division.
