At 55, Chris Jericho is still throwing himself through glass, and he isn’t ready to stop.
Days after a violent No Holds Barred win over Tommaso Ciampa at AEW Redemption, Jericho was asked by Beef Vegan how much longer he plans to wrestle. His answer was that he simply refuses to set a deadline.
I don’t really put a timeline on it. Did I ever think I would be doing it at 55? No, but do I not think of doing it? 55, 25, 35. You look at the match on Sunday, as crazy as it was, it’s still a great match and probably one of the best matches on the show from the standpoint of fan reaction. Why would I want to step away from that?
For Jericho, the decision comes down to enjoyment and self-belief rather than age.
I still enjoy doing it and still can do it at a level that is show-stealing. It could be another week, it could be another two or three years. I don’t want to do it forever, but as long as I feel that I’m still happy with the work that I’m doing and not second-guessing myself, then I’ll continue to do it.
The match he’s referencing was a bloodbath. Wrestling as his Painmaker persona, Jericho beat Ciampa in a No DQ brawl that featured thumbtacked hockey pucks, sandpaper, and a drill, a fittingly Canadian-flavored spectacle for the Bell Centre in Montreal.
The comments echo what he told Fox News Digital recently, when he said people will be sad when he’s no longer around and that even his critics will one day realize they had something special. For now, Jericho is content to keep going as long as the work keeps meeting his own standard.
