CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes Stipulation Rumor Shot Down

The Street Fight rumor for CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes has been shot down. PWInsider reports that Punk and Rhodes’ Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam remains a standard title match, despite chatter sparked by Punk’s own Instagram story.

Punk had posted photos of the official seating at SummerSlam, where his title defense against Rhodes was listed as a Street Fight.

That listing didn’t match anything WWE has published: the match was made official in July as a standard title match, and every card WWE has released, including the final Night 1 lineup, lists it without a stipulation.

The angle still fit where the story had gone. Punk clipped Rhodes in the face with the title belt leaving the ring at Saturday Night’s Main Event, and the two nearly came to blows backstage before Triple H separated them. Rhodes told Punk on the SummerSlam kickoff that his mask had slipped and that it was no accident. They traded punches on Friday’s SmackDown, the final segment before the show.

We’re now just hours away from CM Punk and Cody Rhodes’s first singles match in nearly 18 years.
